Everything new in Rainbow Six Siege Neon Dawn

Operation Neon Dawn continues Ubisoft's new seasonal structure for Rainbow Six Siege, offering just one new operator - Aruni - but making up for the lack of a second op with a haul of gadget reworks, quality of life improvements, and balancing tweaks.

Jäger and Echo mains, we've got some bad news for you. Neon Dawn looks to dethrone two of the strongest defenders in the game with substantial reworks to their gadgets. Additionally, Hibana is also getting an overhaul to her X-KAIROS launcher to make her an even more versatile hard breacher. The Year 2 Season 1 map, Skyscraper, has been reconfigured to make runouts and window peaks more risky, while also opening up the interior so there are fewer chokepoints and more routes through the map.

Finally, a slew of much smaller changes, like a harsher runout timer, a 'no-drop' zone to save you from accidental bomb site fumbles, and more logical interactions between explosives and bulletproof gadgets will hopefully alleviate some of the community's frustrations with the game. We've gone hands-on with Neon Dawn to test out all of the changes for ourselves, so keep reading for a thorough breakdown of everything new in Rainbow Six Siege Operation Neon Dawn.

Rainbow Six Siege reveals Aruni and her gadget

Ubisoft is starting to slowly lift the veil on Rainbow Six Siege Operation Neon Dawn, and that means it's time to sit back and watch all the early leaks get confirmed. Today, the devs have revealed the new defender, Aruni, and her gadget, ahead of the full Neon Dawn reveal set to take place this weekend.

The devs previously announced that we'd get a new defender from Thailand to join the list of Rainbow Six Siege operators, but this is our first official look at Aruni beyond that. The brief teaser video shows Aruni placing her gadget - a laser gate that can cover a door. The gate disengages when Aruni walks through, suggesting that there'll be no friendly fire concerns.

Leaks and datamines suggest that this is called the Surya laser gate, and can be placed over any type of entrance - doors, windows, or anything else. Early word is that it will deal direct damage to enemies, and none to allies passing through. The leaks also say Aruni will be equipped with a MK14 EBR, a P10 RONI, and a PRB92.

Rainbow Six Siege will receive a next-gen upgrade

With the Xbox Series X | S and PlayStation 5 consoles dropping in less than a month, Ubisoft has pulled ahead of the pack by releasing a post with every feature and enhancement you can expect playing its new and existing games on a next-gen console.

All of Ubisoft's upcoming games will also be releasing to the current generation of consoles, and it's great to see upgrades from this gen to the next will be free for all of the titles listed below. However, if you purchased a physical copy of the game, you'll need a next-gen console with a disc drive in order to get the upgrade.

Ubisoft has provided next-gen details for eight games in total, but we have compiled the information for the most popular titles. You can find full details on the enhancements for titles such as Just Dance 2021 and Riders Republic in Ubisoft's official post right here.

Rainbow Six Siege's Halloween mode is a sugar-fuelled Muppets nightmare

The latest Rainbow Six Siege Halloween event, Sugar Fright, begins tomorrow and lasts until November 10. Frost's strange dreams have replaced ten Operators with puppet versions of their models, turning the game into a horrifying episode of The Muppets. The event introduces a new mode, 32 Halloween-themed items, and new challenges which have Sugar Fright packs as rewards.

The new PVP mode, Sugar Hunt, is basically Call of Duty's Kill Confirmed. Players must collect sweets by killing their opponents over the course of a round which lasts about ten minutes. You can block the enemy team from collecting all 50 sweets by picking up your team mate's dogta- I mean, sweets. Once a player dies, they immediately respawn back into the action. Sweet Hunt is available in both ranked and unranked playlists, though leaving at any time will punish players.

Logging into Rainbow Six Siege during the event will reward you with a Sugar Fright pack, giving you the chance of picking up some of the new items.
