Kayak says he doesn't feel like he's "replacing Pengu" on G2's Siege team

Rainbow Six Siege fans have been through a rough time over the past month, as Niclas 'Pengu' Mouritzen and Troy 'Canadian' Jaroslawski both announced that they will be exiting the competitive scene for good. The pair are legends of the game and arguably two of the most recognisable faces in Siege esports whose legacies will be remembered for years to come.

Jordan 'Kayak' Morley is the man who has to step into Pengu's large, inimitable shoes. The 19-year-old British player signed to G2 Esports from Cowana Gaming where he achieved considerable success, but the move will be a big step up. He will not only be the youngest player at G2 by about three years, he will also be competing at a higher level and against better teams.

However, he reveals to The Loadout that he doesn't see himself as a replacement for Pengu, and that he plans to forge his own path in Rainbow Six Siege esports.

Rainbow Six Siege's server upgrade is nearly complete

The server migration that Ubisoft announced for multiplayer co-op game Rainbow Six Siege last month is now nearly complete, and the company says that should be noticeable on the user side in the form of more reliable framerates and match connectivity.

The migration for PC and PlayStation servers is "nearly global", Ubisoft says, with the last remaining migration due in the South Africa data center still left to be done. That's on the to-do list as a long-term goal, so it's unclear when players in South Africa will start seeing the improved performance. The Siege team has relocated data centers in Japan and Australia, and players in those regions should be seeing a significant bump in connection reliability and performance, Ubisoft says.

According to the company's stats, connection failures in Japan have fallen by 30%, while those in Australia have dropped by 13%, since the move. Ubisoft's figures indicate that for PC and PlayStation, global game servers are now running at "a smooth 60 fps" more than 96% of the time, up from a previous average of around 92%.

Rainbow Six Siege Crimson Heist battle pass guide: how to rank up

Want to know more about the Rainbow Six Siege Crimson Heist battle pass? Ubisoft has decided to switch from the year pass to a battle pass, scrapping the system that has been in place since the game's inception. This change removes all of the VIP year pass privileges that used to be in place, perks like the 5% renown boost and discounted in-game items are no longer available.

The new battle pass system features a free and premium track - all players have access to the free track, but the premium track costs R6 Credits to unlock. There are over 130 rewards to unlock, including weapon skins, operator gears, and more. The Crimson Heist battle pass is active from March 16 to May 25, giving players 70 days to unlock all 100 tiers.

All of the items in the battle pass are exclusive, meaning you won't be able to unlock them once the event timer runs out. Purchasing the battle pass will immediately unlock the new attacking operator, Flores. You do have the option of purchasing Flores separately using renown or R6 Credits, but this method won't become available until March 30.

Rainbow Six Siege will have a free week to kick off Crimson Heist

Rainbow Six Siege will have a free week to kick off Crimson Heist

If you haven't gotten into the white-knuckled multiplayer game Rainbow Six Siege yet, you've got a perfect opportunity coming up. Siege will be free to play for a week, starting March 18, and you'll not only get a chance to sample the squad-based tactical teamplay the game has become famous for, you'll also be able to check out the new Crimson Heist content that's arrived with Year 6 Season 1.

Siege's free week runs March 18-25 (although there's a catch for Steam players - the "week" ends March 21 on that platform). Free players will have a lot to take in, and even seasoned veterans will be busy trying out the new Argentinian operator Flores now that the season has kicked off officially.

Y6S1 means the start of a brand new 100-tier battle pass, which has 131 rewards to earn as you level it up. That's on the usual free and premium tracks, and you can buy access to the premium track with 1,200 R6 credits. If you do, you'll gain instant access to Flores - otherwise, you can always unlock him using renown or R6 credits starting March 30.

Rainbow Six Siege's streamer mode comes in Y6S1.1, but not all of it

Ubisoft has been working on a streamer mode in Rainbow Six Siege for some time, due to launch sometime during Year 6 Season 1, Crimson Heist - which, hey, that's out today! The devs have announced that the first round of streamer mode protections will go live as part of Y6S1, but some of those features are getting delayed.

Streamer mode will launch with queue sniping protections. As Ubisoft explains on Twitter, "this allows you to hide your region and latency, and set a random matchmaking delay. With this, it reduces the ability of players watching a stream to purposely queue into that same streamer's lobby."

However, the stream sniping protections - which include things like hiding names, clearance levels, and avatars - have been delayed from this first round update. "We have made the decision to postpone this aspect of streamer mode, as we want to make sure it offers better protection to those using it. Stay tuned for further updates."
