First look at STARSEEKER and new Megatech details!

[p]Today we finally broke our vow of silence (blame it on sound not traveling through space), we hosted our STARSEEKER Direct livestream to deep dive into what kind of game STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions will be and even had a “one more thing” moment to share more details about ASTRONEER’s Megatech DLC.  [/p][p]There’s still much work left to be done, but we’ve just been too anxious to share it with you all! Bear in mind, though, that some things are still works in progress and might change between now and launch.[/p][p][/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p][/p]
STARSEEKER Gameplay Reveal
[p]If you haven’t had the chance to watch the STARSEEKER Direct yet, you can watch the full VOD on our YouTube channel!  [/p][p]It’s only a few weeks ago at PAX that we gave players a small glimpse of STARSEEKER, but today we’ve shared a much larger overview of what the vision of STARSEEKER is meant to be; its gameplay loop, some of its mechanics, and even a few of the creatures you might encounter. But...[/p][p][/p]
What is STARSEEKER?
[p]We’ve given you the broad idea before, this is a game about discovery, cooperative expeditions, and camaraderie. Exploring deep space on the ESS Starseeker, you will need to work together with the entire crew of the space station to complete planet-wide objectives across a multitude of star systems wielding advanced future tech.[/p][p]To be more specific, you’ll be teaming up with other members of the ESS Starseeker into 4-player squads to embark on expeditions. These are timed planetside adventures for you and your squad to explore, complete objectives, then finally loot and scoot, but you’ll most likely get into some delightful shenanigans along the way.[/p][p]While on a planet’s surface, you’ll run into dangerous creatures, unique encounters, and precious materials to scoop up. But be warned, players are not always expected to succeed! You will need to use all of your advanced tech and collaborate with your crew if you want to return to the ESS Starseeker with your hard-earned goods.[/p][p]If you do manage to survive an expedition, then you’ll return up to the space station to earn all of your sweet rewards and rep gains from the Fronteer Force, the legendary superteam of absurd action science heroes in charge of the Starseeker. But you can never take the desire for adventure away from an Astroneer, so gear up and plan for your next expedition.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Moment to Moment Gameplay
[p]Your goal on an expedition is not to come in guns blazing to save humanity from an intergalactic threat - our heroics aren’t quite so violent, but still action-packed. Treacherous terrain, troublesome flora and fauna, and of course the ever-present limited oxygen that sets a timer to any expedition are just some of the challenges you’ll face.[/p][p]To face these challenges, you can pack a veritable Swiss army knife of gear for every occasion (though you may need to prioritize). ASTRONEER veterans will already be familiar with the trusty EXO Tool, which is still key to your expeditionary kit, but it’ll do more than just dig up terrain or scoop up resources (which it also does).[/p][p]Through a variety of nozzle upgrades, your EXO Tool can aid you in a variety of ways, like keeping rowdy critters at bay with a powerful air blast or water hose (or squad members too, if you’re feeling mischievous). You can also get creative - use your air blasts for mid-air jumps, chuck globs of soil to build bridges, or combine tools for unique effects.[/p][p]And this isn’t the only tool in your kit. Your trusty backpack will be able to receive a variety of mods as well, but we’re not quite ready to go over those just yet. Do consider, however, that we’ve also added new mobility options. Climbing, swimming, and diving are just some of them, but also soaring through Tephra’s skies thanks to the cool new glider we’ve teased in previous communications.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Alien Worlds & Creatures
[p]Fascinating creatures, hazardous flora, and more await you on your expeditions. The Starseeker’s first destination is the planet Tephra, a colorful world teeming with life. This is a carefully crafted planet and not procedurally generated as we’ve done before, with different biomes and hidden secrets to discover as more landing zones unlock. [/p][p]The current vision is that once the crew of the Starseeker has finished all of its science-y goals on one planet, it will then move on to the next one, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves yet, there’s still plenty to talk about with Tephra. In addition to the wild vegetation that would be the dream of any xenobotanist, you’ll also run into a variety of alien creatures (some of which are at least partially vegetation as well). [/p][p]Some of the alien fauna can be quite dangerous and will require teamwork to fend off. You’ll run into lumbering brutes that see red at anything that gets too close to them. Other creatures might be just as territorial, choosing instead to launch slowing goop at you from a distance. [/p][p]But not all creatures you encounter are hostile, they’re all likely to respond to your presence in different ways. Some of them might just ignore you entirely, like the curious Carrotlings. They’re an enigmatic bunch, but they’re mostly harmless. Mostly.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
One Crew, One Shared Goal
[p]Last, but not least, this is a game about camaraderie, as we mentioned earlier. You’ll experience this every time you head out on an expedition with your squad, but it goes beyond that. We want to offer a game experience that breeds altruism, where it feels good for you to help out, not just other players, but the whole crew of the Starseeker.[/p][p]One way we’re doing this is with community goals, shared missions with the whole Starseeker community of players. Heck, diving into an alien planet for exploration, conducting research, and gathering resources takes a village (or a space station). All this effort will go towards new rewards, unfolding new mysteries, and driving the story forwards.[/p][p]Another way we’re bringing players together is through the ESS Starseeker itself. It’s the heart of the crew, an ever-evolving space station where players get together to plan expeditions, earn new upgrades, gain reputation with the excentric Fronteer Force leadership, and even hang out with other players where silliness is encouraged.[/p][p][/p]
What’s Next?
[p]Phew, that was a lot to take in all at once. But it’s only the beginning! We plan to dig into the details of the game much more deeply over the coming months running up to the release of the game in 2026. Keep an eye on this space and make sure to follow our channels so you’re the first to hear about any news we have to share, especially if you join our Discord. But most importantly, wishlist STARSEEKER now to show your support, it really helps. [/p][p] [/p][p]⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀   Wishlist STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions![/p][p] [/p][p]But wait, there’s more![/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Megatech is ASTRONEER on a whole new scale!
[p]When we announced Megatech a few weeks ago, our upcoming new ASTRONEER DLC expansion, we were admittedly light on details. This is in no small part because we’re still in active development and some things might change between now and release, but we still want to share a few more details, with the understanding that this is still a work in progress subject to some changes. [/p][p]Joe already showed us a deeper look at one of the Megastructures you’ll be able to gain access to with the Megatech FREE Update, the Intermodal Terminal! (That’s the correct name 😉) We’ve teased it before, and to your credit, you figured out what it does right away. That’s right, interplanetary automation is coming soon for all players! But how does it work? More on this soon, we still have a few more updates to share running up to launch. [/p][p]This isn’t the only thing coming with the Megatech FREE Update either, we’ll also be adding some nice quality-of-life improvements for all players. We will be adding player requested items like the tether dropper which will automatically place down tethers behind you at the optimal distance, and large sized gas and soil canisters (you’ll be needing them to build these massive megastructures, though they’re also great for general storage), and more! [/p][p]But we also have massive additions in the Megatech DLC that we hope you’ll love as much as we already do. Megastructure projects include the expandable Biodome for you to grow your crops in and a large Museum space for you to display your achievements and favorite collections. We also have something HUGE that we’re setting aside to talk about at a later date, but let’s just say it’s too massive to place down on any of your bases, you’ll need more... space. [/p][p]If you haven’t already, make sure to wishlist the Megatech DLC so you can be among the first to get it when it launches later this year. We’ll also have more information to share soon, so stay tuned![/p][p][/p][p]⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀   Wishlist ASTRONEER: Megatech Now![/p][p][/p][p]⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀    Download the ASTRONEER: Megatech wallpaper:[/p][p]⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Landscape (1920x1080) - Landscape 4K (3820x2160) - Portrait (1080x1920)[/p][p][/p]
FAQ
[p]STARSEEKER:[/p][p]Will there be a Beta?[/p]
 • [p]Yes, this is what we’re planning for. That said, we don’t have any details to share yet. Sign up here and wishlist the game to be among the first to find out more.[/p]
[p]Is this going to be a Live Service Game?[/p]
 • [p]Maybe only in the most technical sense. Sure, the game will be live at all times, but we prefer to think of it as an “expandable game,” a term coined by our friends at Devolver. In essence, this means that we’ll continue to update the game into the future, but we don't expect STARSEEKER players to be chained up to the game 24/7 or never play any other games. We want to keep you entertained, but we don’t see anything wrong with players coming and going as we get new content updates for them to check out or when they get drawn by other games in their collections.[/p]
[p]Can I play solo?[/p]
 • [p]Yes, you can head out on solo expeditions. However, you will still encounter other players on the station and on the planet. STARSEEKER is an online game designed from the ground up for squads of four, so going alone can be tougher without a crew to watch your back. If you decide to team up with others, matchmaking can help you group up, and the in-game ping system allows everyone to coordinate without requiring text or voice chat. [/p]
[p]Can I play offline?[/p]
 • [p]No, STARSEEKER is designed as a social experience and there are always going to be at least a few other players nearby. We like to think of STARSEEKER as a complement to ASTRONEER, which does allow for a solo experience.[/p]
[p]Is this ASTRONEER 2?[/p]
 • [p]Nope! While it is part of the same universe, STARSEEKER is a different type of game altogether, as we hope this blog has helped make a bit clearer.[/p]
[p]How does STARSEEKER connect to ASTRONEER?[/p]
 • [p]While the narrative might connect these two games in some ways, they are both entirely different games meant to live side by side with each other. There aren’t any ways in which these two games connect to each other in terms of gameplay or account progression.[/p]
[p]What will happen to ASTRONEER?[/p]
 • [p]It’s not going anywhere, as you can see from our Megatech announcement. We still plan to continue developing the game and adding more content over time in parallel to STARSEEKER.[/p]
[p]ASTRONEER: Megatech[/p][p]What’s the release date for ASTRONEER: Megatech?[/p]
 • [p]November 2025. We’ll narrow this down once we’re closer to release.[/p]
[p]Will existing game save files be compatible with the Megatech DLC?[/p]
 • [p]Yes.[/p]
[p]Will any free content be released with the Megatech DLC?[/p]
 • [p]Yes. A free content update will be released alongside the paid DLC. We’ll break this down in detail at a later date.[/p]
[p]How far into the game should I progress before starting the Megatech DLC?[/p]
 • [p]You can access the Megatech DLC as soon as you start a new game. That said, the majority of this new content will be locked behind a fair bit of the tech tree and some missions, both old and new.[/p]

Save the Date for the STARSEEKER Direct! - SES Community Update SEP.25

[p]It took us a bit to switch gears back into normalcy after our showing at PAX West, but we were just warming up![/p][p][/p][p][/p]
In Recent News
[p]Since our previous Community Update, we had an exciting announcement for ASTRONEER with our upcoming Megatech DLC, the second major expansion for the game! This will also be accompanied by a FREE Major Update, both of which will add new large-scale tech that puts the MEGA in Megatech. Read up on the full announcement here if you haven’t already, and don’t forget to Wishlist![/p][p]But that’s not all we announced, we also shared that we’d soon be running a special STARSEEKER Direct livestream to finally give everyone a proper look at the game. We may have been a bit murky about the details of exactly when this would happen, but yesterday we finally revealed the date![/p][p] [/p][p]⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀STARSEEKER DIRECT[/p][p]⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Streaming October 7th, at 10AM PT[/p][p]⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀YouTube - Twitch[/p][p][/p][p]That’s right, next Tuesday! We originally communicated that this would be falling within September, but we needed a little more runway in order to give STARSEEKER its fair share of the spotlight.[/p][p]We hope to see you there; we have much to share and even have a few surprises lined up. Also, if you haven’t already, remember to wishlist STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions![/p][p][/p][p][/p]
EXO F.A.R.M. is Back!
[p]A couple weeks ago marked the start of the EXO F.A.R.M. event in ASTRONEER, bringing back everyone’s favorite space gourds treasure hunt and Biofuel production extravaganza. The event is back with a new set of rewards to unlock, giving players a chance to earn the Poison Apple set of cosmetics in addition to the PUM-KN Shelter for those who haven’t managed to unlock it in prior events. Check out our blog for all the details.  [/p][p][/p]
Community Roundup
[p]We have a new roundup of community content to feature today, and we’re already trying something a bit different with it!  [/p][p]You’ll notice below the following entries that we’ve shared some emotes and comments, all of which correspond to reactions from the development team when we shared them internally in the mysterious space of the System Era Slack channels. We always love sharing inspiring moments and creations from our community, so this way we’ll be sharing some of that appreciation with you all. [/p][p][/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p]When I stumbled across Richard’s awesome rap song there was no doubt in my mind that this should be the feature of our next Community Roundup! Not only is the song catchy and the lyrics clever, but the editing of this video is also impressive and really makes our beloved little space game look amazing. Check out their YouTube channel.[/p][p][/p][p]⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀[/p][p]“Man, inspiring incredible fanart is one of the most rewarding things about being a dev.” [/p][p] [/p][p]“We need this synced to the 'Chill Beats to Terraform' video. Also, these are pretty impressive lyrics.” [/p][p][/p]
Little Victories
[p][/p][p][/p][p]There have certainly been some impressive creations made in Astroneer, but jannko2’s functional 8-bit adder stands out for this visually pleasing cable management. I don’t even want to think about how long this must have taken to set up! [/p][p][/p][p]⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀[/p][p]“Using floodlights as bit toggle indicators viewable from a longer distance is really clever. You should be really proud for getting this working! It's a lot of effort!”[/p][p][/p][p]“Be proud... we did not make this easy on you. I'm impressed with the organization.”[/p][p][/p][p]“That genuinely might be some of the cleanest cable management I've ever seen in such a large project LMAO.”[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Peaco decided to share this proud moment of gathering all galastropods for the first time and being treated to their beautiful song. There’s always something pleasing about gathering a complete set, especially when you can plug them all into a nice display next to each other. [/p][p][/p][p]⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀[/p][p]“The colors, Duke! The colors! If you get that reference, how are your knees?” [/p][p] [/p][p]“Everybody loves a good choir.” [/p][p][/p]
Sneak Leek
[p]As a little warm-up to the STARSEEKER Direct, we figured we might share a cool bit of tech from the game that players at the PAX West demo got to see up close, our new dropships! Don’t you just want to attach one to a keychain or carry it around like a boombox? [/p][p]The ESS Starseeker has more than just a few of these sleek dropships, built for the crew to drop down planetside on their expeditions. They’re more streamlined than the rockets you might be used to in ASTRONEER, but they’re perfect for short trips between the ESS Starseeker and any planet it might be in orbit of. Oh, and do try to remember where you landed, otherwise it will be a one-way trip.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Hopefully that’s whetted your appetite enough to come back on October 7th and join us for the STARSEEKER Direct, we’ll have much more to share then. Stay tuned![/p][p][/p][p]- Honourael. [/p]

Welcome to the EXO F.A.R.M. 2025 Limited Time Event!

[p] [/p][p]Are those green thumbs itching for the EXO F.A.R.M. Limited Time Event? This event has a bit for everyone, newer Astroneers and veterans alike, so keep reading to get the lowdown on how it works and even a few tips for maxing out your rewards.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
THE EXO F.A.R.M. EVENT
[p]EXO Dynamics is in need of more precious precious biofuel, and Astroneers are encouraged to contribute. Make sure you have at least one EXO Request Platform set up in your base where you can supply the requested items in order to get valuable trade goods in return (which can be quite valuable, but subject to luck).[/p][p] [/p][p]Check out the platform’s control panel to identify what items are being requested, or simply mouse over the holograms on the rocket to see what is needed. Each requested item has a different value, so you can min/max your rewards with higher value items to get to the required thresholds faster.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
GATHERING CAULDRANGEAS
[p]In order to be able to produce Biofuel, you will first need to go exploring either Sylva, Calidor, or Atrox to find the exotic Cauldrangeas, which spawn only during the EXO F.A.R.M. event. Your handy compass will help you find them, just look for the orange seed icon. But Cauldrangeas aren’t just any old flower you can pick in a field, they’re defended by dangerous flora native to their respective worlds, so be careful.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
BIOFUEL RECIPES
[p]Once you have at least one Cauldrangea you’ll be able to start producing Biofuel, but it doesn’t hurt to have at least a few of them. Use a Packager to bring them back to your base. And it’s worth noting that not all Cauldrangeas are equal! From slowest to fastest, you can find the Leisurely variety in Sylva, Brisk on Calidor, and Swift on Atrox.[/p][p]There are a few recipes you can plug into these plants to produce Biofuel of varying quality. Just mouse over the Cauldrangea and hit “F” to cycle through them. The more valuable the resources you use, the more valuable the Biofuel will be.[/p]
 • [p]Squasholine: 15 Points – 2 Sturdysquash Samples  [/p]
 • [p]Attapetrol: 28 Points – 1 Sturdysquash Sample + 1 Mutant Spiny Attactus Seed  [/p]
 • [p]Noxothane: 40 Points – 1 Sturdysquash Sample + 1 Mutant Elegant Spewflower Seed [/p]
 • [p]Unknown Biofuel: 55 Points – 1 Sturdysquash Sample + 1 Resipound  [/p]
 • [p]S.O.U.P.: 70 Points – 1 Sturdysquash Sample + 1 Leek [/p]
[p][/p][p][/p]
FARMING INGREDIENTS
[p]Some of these ingredients might not sound familiar, and it’s because most of them will only spawn during the EXO F.A.R.M. event. This is where you can find them:[/p]
 • [p]Sturdysquash: Found on the same planets as Cauldrangeas. Try sticking to the mountains to find them on Sylva and Calidor, or canyons in the case of Atrox, where they might be a bit easier to find.[/p]
 • [p]Resipound: Tapped from the Amaze plant, found underground on Sylva and trackable on the compass with a yellow icon.[/p]
 • [p]Leeks: Tapped from the Tuberyl plant, found on the valleys of Vesania and trackable on the compass with a green icon.[/p]
 • [p]Mutant Seeds: You’re likely to find these just by clearing out the grounds around the Cauldrangeas you gather. They’ll help your Sturdysquashes give out more points, but S.O.U.P. is really where it’s at. Setting up a Leek farm in your base will be a great help.[/p]
[p][/p][p][/p]
REWARDS
[p]Outside of the more common rewards like resources, mods, or modules, you can also earn the following cosmetics:[/p]
 • [p]Poison Apple – Visor (Pick Your Poison) + PUM-KN Shelter – 800 points[/p]
 • [p]Poison Apple – Hat (Stem the Tide) – 2400 points[/p]
 • [p]Poison Apple – Palette (Bad Apple) – 8000 points[/p]
[p]You’re now ready to head out and get dirty! This event will end no sooner than November 30th, 2025, so no time like the present.[/p]

ASTRONEER is getting new DLC & Major FREE Update!

[p]Big things are coming for ASTRONEER. Huge, in fact! [/p][p][/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
ASTRONEER: Megatech
[p]Our second major DLC update for ASTRONEER is scheduled to be released in November of this year, and it brings big changes to the game! Unlock the ability to build massive Megastructure projects that will test your base building skills through the use of both new and existing technology. Harness the power of Megatech to take base building and automation to a whole new level!  [/p][p]This DLC will be completely compatible with existing saves and builds off of any progress you’ve already made in-game, so feel free to start fresh or load up your existing saves and start building! [/p][p]In addition, this DLC will be released alongside a free update for all players. The free update will include new items and the ability to create a Megastructure that will allow automated interplanetary transportation (kudos to those who guessed correctly!). That means moving resources and technology between planets while you sit pretty and play with your favorite galastropod. [/p][p]We’ll share more details in the future, but in the meantime you can already wishlist it! [/p][p][/p][p]⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀   Wishlist ASTRONEER: Megatech Now![/p][p][/p][p]⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀    Download the ASTRONEER: Megatech wallpaper:[/p][p]⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Landscape (1920x1080) - Landscape 4K (3820x2160) - Portrait (1080x1920)
[/p]
A New Development Partner
[p]Continuing to develop ASTRONEER in parallel to a brand-new game? Releasing a new DLC expansion while development for STARSEEKER is still ongoing? You might be asking yourself how we’re able to manage it all. We’re still a smallish scrappy team, after all. Well, this is because we’re getting some help. [/p][p]Our co-development partners are called Red Kite Games, and they’re good people who are good at what they do. You might already be familiar with at least one of the many other games they’ve helped co-develop, such as Fall Guys and Two Point Hospital, but they’ve also been hugely influential in allowing us to develop Megatech and more. [/p][p]We call this out for the sake of transparency and crediting their work accordingly, so please show them some love too once you get to try out some of this new content. [/p][p][/p]
FAQ
[p]What’s the release date for ASTRONEER: Megatech? [/p]
 • [p]November 2025. We’ll narrow this down once we’re closer to release. [/p]
[p]Will existing game save files be compatible with the Megatech DLC? [/p]
 • [p]Yes.  [/p]
[p]Will any free content be released with the Megatech DLC? [/p]
 • [p]Yes. A free content update will be released alongside the paid DLC. We’ll break this down in detail at a later date. [/p]
[p]How far into the game should I progress before starting the Megatech DLC? [/p]
 • [p]You can access the Megatech DLC as soon as you start a new game. That said, the majority of this new content will be most relevant to players who have already advanced a fair bit into the tech tree. [/p]
