Voxel Art Competition

[p][/p]
Details
[p]We are launching a Coloring Pixels sequel! To celebrate, we are hosting a voxel art competition to give you, our incredible community, the opportunity to have your own levels in the game![/p][p]That's right, the winners of this competition will feature as levels in Coloring Voxels![/p][p][/p][p]The 16 winners of this competition will be combined into an exhibition world, which will be added in a free update to Coloring Voxels. It's very easy to enter; keep reading to find out all the information you need. When you're ready, click on the big SUBMIT HERE link at the bottom.[/p][p][/p][p]"I canne do it, Captain!" Yes, you can! It doesn't matter if you've never made Voxel art before; it's super easy to get started and create a whole variety of pieces. The only limitation is your imagination... and I guess the time constraint we're giving you with this competition. [/p][p]Make sure you check out the Suggestions below if you're a first-time Voxeler, and even join our Discord to chat with our artist and community for guidance![/p][p][/p][p]The deadline is the 10th of October 2025 at 17:00 UTC. The winners will be announced on the 24th of October 2025 via a blog post here on our website, Steam announcement, Discord, and X. Links to the socials can be found at the top right of this website![/p][p][/p]
Rules and Suggestions
[p]We will need to modify any submitted work to make things work well in the game, but we have a couple of points to stick to that would help us out. To help improve your chances, we have come up with a few simple rules for you to follow and some suggestions to help you get started.[/p][p][/p]
Rules (the dull bit):
• [p]You must submit a file in one of the commonly used project files. Project files are best for us to inspect, and they are easiest to use to modify and import into our Coloring Voxels editor. We will try to accept as many types as we can, but recommend .qb (Qubicle), .vox (Magica) or .gox (Goxel). Sadly, if we can't open the files in any of our editors, they won't be considered. Files such as .fbx, Minecraft files, .gif or image slice files won't work, for example.[/p]
  • [p]The level must be a reasonable size. This is a difficult rule to quantify. We recommend keeping your levels approximately 50x50x50 in size. You can make things bigger or smaller than that in some dimensions, but just make sure that things don't get too large. For example, the Skeleton level we have provided below is taller than 50 cubes, but has made sure to keep the width and depth dimensions smaller than 50.[/p]
  • [p]You must own the art piece. Please don't submit on behalf of someone else without their permission. Please make the art piece yourself for this competition. We check to see if the art you submitted belongs to someone else, as we cannot use people's work without their consent.[/p]
  • [p]No Politics, no copyright infringement, keep it family-friendly. This should go without saying, but we can't accept anything that is politically charged, anything that features clear use of intellectual property, or any dark or sexual themes. We are a small indie company that just wants to keep things chill and can't really deal with lawsuits or complex age ratings.[/p]
[p][/p]
Suggestions
• [p]Don't think you can't give this competition a go just because you haven't made anything with Voxels before. We all learnt how to make voxel art just for this game, and if you've ever played something like Minecraft before, then you technically already have experience too![/p]
  • [p]Don't forget about your model's innards! If you have played Coloring Voxels, you know that you place each and every block in the model. That means that it's not all down to the outside view of the model that counts. If you look at the examples below, they show good examples of how the inside of the model can feature some fun and interesting details that aren't immediately visible.[/p]
  • [p]"Which software should I use?" - It is personal preference, but we recommend using either Goxel (free) or MagicaVoxel (also free). We also use Qubicle here in the office, but it is quite old now and a paid-for product. We will accept any project files from any of these big three editors.[/p]
  • [p]You can try using your Minecraft files as a base for your art, as Goxel (and probably other Voxel editors) have the ability to import Minecraft files into the editor. Try this out as a starting point and send us your end result, exported in the right format, of course![/p]
  • [p]"I've gone brain dead... I need inspiration!" - We can't choose for you, but you can make anything. If you can't think of anything new or inspiring, try making something you love (film, game, pet fish, lasagne) or even just pretend you are playing Minecraft and make a dream home or castle.[/p]
  • [p]Can I submit multiple times? Yes, don't hold back! Submit as many entries as you like. We will judge each image anonymously and individually. You can win multiple times, but we will cap it so you can't win every slot.[/p]
[p][/p]
Examples
[p]We realise that making voxel art, while a lot more rewarding and fun, can feel a bit more complicated. That's why each of us at ToastieLabs has made some quick examples for you to look at to see what kind of thing we are looking for.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]If we have never made Voxel art before making Coloring Voxels, and can make these, you can too![/p][p][/p][p]Download them here for a closer look:[/p][p]https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/13Xtv7QVn1EwWSytlbwFkVauHjoBURoC_?usp=drive_link[/p][p]
Bonus points if you can guess which was made by our Artist Jack, Designer Lee or Programmer Rob.[/p][p][/p]
Submit Here
Launch Schedule, DLC Pricing and More!

Launch Timeline!
[p]There's just over 2 weeks until the launch of Coloring Voxels! Make sure you have the 15th of August marked on your calendars and count down the days with us until the release of the best Coloring game this decade![/p][p]As a part of the countdown, we will be hosting activities and competitions in our Community Discord for the entire week up to release, so make sure you join our Discord to get involved.[/p][p]*A full breakdown of activities will be announced on the 8th of August[/p][p][/p]
Monthly DLC!
[p]As you are likely aware, the game is releasing with a total of 7 unique worlds, each made up of 16 different levels! This will provide you with an estimated 20 hours of free gameplay, and that's not including New Game+! [/p][p]But what happens when you've played every level and are looking for more? Well, don't worry! Just like Coloring Pixels and our other titles hexceed and WooLoop, we plan to release a new DLC every month! As part of our commitment to the game, we can also confirm today that we will do so for at least the next 12 months![/p][p]Starting in August, we will release a new, themed DLC every 3rd Friday of the month. That's on top of the monthly Coloring Pixels DLC, which we schedule for the second Friday of each month. As always, there are a couple of exceptions:[/p]
  • [p]August 2025's additional content to launch on Friday, the 29th, since it is the launch month for Voxels.[/p]
  • [p]December's world is likely to shift due to the holiday season.[/p]
[p]= DLC Release Day[/p][p][/p]
Pricing
[p]Each DLC will be priced at $1.99/£1.69 (or your regional equivalent). [/p][p]This has been a tough decision for us. We would prefer to offer the DLC at the lowest price Steam allows, like we have previously prided ourselves on. That being said, we are satisfied with this pricing choice as it helps cover the additional costs we have been facing over the past couple of years. Despite being a small indie team, we are subject to things changing that are out of our control, such as the rise in inflation making everything more expensive. We are also aware of the additional development time these DLC worlds require in comparison to our previous titles. Hopefully, this price point will support us for many years to come.[/p][p][/p][p]This is the first time in seven years of DLC that we have raised our prices. It is very important to us that our games are accessible to everyone, and keeping the game free-to-play and DLC prices affordable is one of the ways we can achieve this. We want people to be able to sell a couple of Steam trading cards and choose their favourite themed DLC out of a selection to play if needed.[/p][p][/p][p]We are also happy to confirm today that we will be hosting monthly giveaways in our Discord for each DLC release. Just like we do with Coloring Pixels and WooLoop, we give away 5 keys to winners selected randomly by a Discord bot in our server! It is free to enter, so another reason for you to join the community and chat with like-minded players![/p][p][/p]
The DLC Theme Selection Process...
[p]"But what themes will we be seeing in Coloring Voxel DLCs?"[/p][p]That's a great question, imaginary person, and one we don't know either! [/p][p][/p][p]We'll probably make Halloween and Christmas-themed worlds in October and December, respectively, as we love these themes in both Coloring Pixels and WooLoop, so we will likely continue that tradition here. Other than that, the DLC themes are entirely up to you, the community. [/p][p][/p][p]We will be using the same established method we use for Coloring Pixels and WooLoop for you to suggest, vote on, and ultimately choose what DLC we will make.[/p]
  1. [p]Suggest an idea, either here on Steam, via Email, on our Discord or any other way you can contact us.[/p]
  2. [p]All the suggestions get listed on our Discord for you to react to/vote on.[/p]
  3. [p]Every month, the top 5 voted suggestions get sent to our Patreons for them to make the final vote on which of the 5 we will be making next.[/p]
[p]The first of the Polls is live now on our Patreon and ends in 3 days! (03/08/2025) Get involved! Some of the best DLC we have made in our last 7 years as a company have been suggested by and voted on by the community.[/p][p][/p]
More?
[p]And that's (almost) it for now! You can continue to follow along with our development here on Steam, in Discord and with our Weekly Dev Vlogs. [/p][p][/p][p]In the meantime, look out for news on the upcoming activities, a brand new game trailer and a Coloring Voxels competition where you can get your own voxel art in the game![/p][p][/p][p]Until then, please remember to add Coloring Voxels to your Steam Wishlist; this is the best way to support our game until release. Thank you! 💖[/p][p][/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink]With love, the ToastieLabs team

Thank You Steam Next Fest!

Steam Next Fest
[p]A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by during the Steam Next Fest! We had a great time here at ToastieLabs with our live broadcasts on Steam and with the ongoing chats with you over in our Discord server.[/p][p](If you missed any of the livestreams and would like to catch up on what you missed, you can find all of the recordings on our YouTube channel to watch at your convenience.)[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Over 2000 of you played the game demo, which absolutely blows us away! Thank you all so much for your interest and interaction with Coloring Voxels. We are just as excited as you are to see the development progress from now until release in only a couple of months![/p][p]The Demo consisted of a single world (Volcano), which is made up of 16 levels. The overall feedback on the world design was your enjoyment of the art aesthetic, and we couldn't be happier with your kind words. 💖[/p]
Some Stats
[p]Once again, your interest and interaction with Coloring Voxels are better than we could ever ask for. Here is a cool, detailed breakdown of the players and wishlists from the Next Fest week. [/p][p][/p][p]Over 10% of the players who tested the game demo added it to their wishlists, which is a great conversion rate, especially considering that over 5,000+ of you already had Coloring Voxels on your wishlists before the demo was live.[/p][p]This boost in wishlists has taken us ever closer to our ambitious 7,000-10,000 wishlists goal. Thank you again, and make sure to follow along with the development from here to launch in August to stay up-to-date with the game![/p][p]You can even see the boost Next Fest had on the overall wishlists graph![/p][p][/p]
What's Next?
[p]It's all hands on deck to get the game ready for the August launch date. The first thing we're working on is a robust game editor so we can all get involved with a more streamlined and efficient method of importing, testing and fixing the game levels. [/p][p]Once this is in place, we have more worlds and levels to make, QA and get ready for release, and there are a lot of features and fixes for our programmer, Rob, to implement. [/p]
Your Feedback
[p]A huge thank you to all of you who submitted reports and gave feedback on your experience. We have been taking it all on board and are using it to prioritise what we are implementing into the game.[/p][p]In addition to adding the already promised features, such as graphics settings and improved performance. We have digested all of the feedback to create a prioritised list of tasks to work through. From a couple of bug reports to features and settings you would like to see, we will do our best to get as much in for launch as possible.[/p][p]Your Feedback Additions:[/p]
  • [p]Mouse sensitivity settings.[/p]
  • [p]Keyboard controls.[/p]
  • [p]Options to change coloring numbers' meaning/sequencing.[/p]
  • [p]Toggle to turn off the level timelapse when opening a level.[/p]
  • [p]Main Menu world view improvements.[/p]
    • [p]Hide outside levels so you can see levels in the centre.[/p]
    • [p]Better methods to view worlds.[/p]
    • [p]New Game Plus effects.[/p]
    • [p]Ability to hide your best time from completed levels.[/p]
  • [p]Free camera or something similar at the end of the level.[/p]
  • [p]Level percentage pop-up[/p]
  • [p]Level timer pop-up[/p]
[p]Known Bugs/Issues:[/p]
  • [p]Poor game performance[/p]
  • [p]Poor game controls[/p]
  • [p]End of levels timelapse sometimes does not repeat.[/p]
  • [p]Initial timelapse fails if any layer is completed in a different order.[/p]
  • [p]Layer selection overlapping with the play zone.[/p]
  • [p]No Autosave on game close.[/p]
  • [p]Can click through voxels with set camera angles.[/p]
  • [p]Potential AFK issue when the level is completed.[/p]
[p]This is just some of the more mentioned parts of the list. Please note that these suggestions are on top of our pre-existing commitment to add many of the settings you can already find in Coloring Pixels. We want to ensure that everyone from Coloring Pixels will feel at home in the sequel, even if you have some strange config set up. [/p][p]We are constantly looking for feedback to act upon, so if you have any more suggestions, please let us know! [/p]
Game Launch Soon!
[p]It's not too long to go for the launch of the game! Coming August 15th, make sure you have Coloring Voxels on your wishlist and share with your friends. Any additional wishlists from now to release will help us immensely, so thank you in advance for being amazing! 💖[/p][p][/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink]- With love, the ToastieLabs team
