Cargo Line Volume 5: Nuclear – Coming Soon!

[p][/p][p]The Cargo Line series continues! Take care with delicate, high security cargo in Volume 5: Nuclear, coming from Skyhook Games on 18th November.[/p][p]We first announced Cargo Line Volume 5: Nuclear in our June Roadmap, showing off the modernised Class 20 locomotive and unique flask wagons.[/p]
Nuclear Trains - What are they?
[p][/p][p][/p][p]The gameplay in this Add-on simulates the movement of radioactive nuclear material up and down two stretches of the West Coast Main Line.[/p][p]The role of these trains is simple; safely carry nuclear flasks between power stations and processing centres across the UK. This important task has made them a popular and rare catch for enthusiasts, and despite the reduction in nuclear power plants since the millennium, the trains are still seen in use to this day.[/p][p]Due to the volatile nature of their cargo, Nuclear trains are often operated with multiple locomotives at once. The modernised Class 20/3 was one such type of locomotive assigned to the role. Bookending the wagons between locos protects them against any direct impact, and additional diesel engines added contingency in case of a failure. Wherever possible, the Nuclear train must remain moving and is given high priority across the network.[/p]
BR Class 20/3 locomotive

Overview and history
[p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]The English Electric Type 1 / Class 20 locomotive, known to many as 'Choppers' (because of the distinctive engine sounds), first appeared in Train Sim World as a Loco Add-on for the Tees Valley Line, set in the early 1990s. Cargo Line Volume 5 introduces a new contemporary version, circa 2000.[/p][p]Developed in the 1950s, the English Electric Type 1 was the first major step on British Railways’ path to dieselisation. After many trials and failures, the Type 1 showed promise as a 1000hp locomotive, and between 1957 and 1968 a total of 228 would be produced. The Type 1s took over from steam locomotives of equivalent power, primarily working light, mixed-freight traffic throughout the Midlands and in Scotland. Unlike newer locomotives, the Type 1s featured a rather unique single cab design.[/p][p][/p][p]The cab, situated at the rear of the locomotive, has controls facing in either direction and gives the locos a tank engine-like appearance, with the diesel engine and on-board equipment sat much like how a firebox and boiler would, in front of the cab.[/p][p]Visibility when travelling nose first was quickly realised as a concern, so it became common to see pairs of Type 1s coupled at the nose, allowing for greater view of the track ahead and with the added benefit of doubling the horsepower, meaning they could handle heaver trains.[/p][p][/p][p]With the introduction of the TOPS classification system, the EE Type 1s were rebranded as BR Class 20s. Despite being some of the oldest diesels around, the Class 20s have remained in operational use to this day, and have survived into preservation, making them a frequent sight on heritage railways.[/p][p]A number of Class 20s were once used in operations in France and to construct the High Speed 1 line featured in Southeastern Highspeed. They have also been used to operate RHTTs, which is something that can be loosely recreated using Formation Designer and Free Roam features in-game.[/p]
Nuclear Operations and modernisation
[p][/p][p]In the June Roadmap, Skyhook Games explained: > Created as a wholly-owned subsidiary of British Nuclear Fuels Ltd during late 1994, Direct Rail Services (DRS) had the sole purpose of taking over rail-based handling of nuclear material from British Rail. Initially operating from the reprocessing plant at Sellafield, DRS opened a dedicated depot at Carlisle Kingmoor Yard in 1998 to cater for its new fleet of 15 ex Channel Tunnel works Class 20 locomotives.[/p][p][/p]
[p]DRS eventually operated a fleet of 21 examples of the English Electric Type 1s, being significantly upgraded by Brush Traction of Loughborough with long-range fuel tanks, group standard headlight clusters, high-impact windscreens and a complete cab rebuild before outshopping them in iconic Oxford Blue livery with fully yellow ends and red buffer beams.[/p]
[p]The Class 20/3 in this Add-on represents features circa year 2000 and includes:[/p]
  • [p]WIPAC Headlights[/p]
  • [p]Modernised cab including NRN and GSM-R equipment[/p]
  • [p](Non-functional) Nuclear Panic Button[/p]
  • [p]Removal of headcode discs[/p]
FNA-D Nuclear Flask wagon
[p][/p][p]Sandwiched between a pair of Class 20s is the FNA-D Nuclear Flask Wagon, new to Train Sim World.[/p]
[p]The original fleet of FNA wagons were built by British Rail, and later Procor, for the transport of spent nuclear fuel from power stations to processing and research centres. These fascinating wagons came into service in the 1970s and became an iconic part of the network, performing this important task. In the 2010s, it was identified that replacements were required. The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority commissioned WH Davis to produce 40 new wagons as a 'like-for-like' replacement for the original FNAs.[/p]
[p][/p]
[p]The new batch featured several major updates including exposed framing, different bogies, and the ability to carry a wider range of flask designs. Despite the reduction in nuclear power plants in the UK since the millennium, the FNA-Ds can still be seen in use across much of the UK.[/p]
Gameplay and route Add-ons
[p]Cargo Line Volume 5 adds Nuclear services and Scenarios to two stretches of the West Coast Line:[/p][p][/p][p]West Coast Main Line: Preston - Carlisle[/p]
  • [p]3 Scenarios[/p]
  • [p]14 timetable services[/p]
[p]These represent trains running out of Sellafield nuclear site, with in-game services running between Carnforth - Preston and Carnforth - Carlisle as well as Morecambe - Preston and Morecambe - Carnforth (originating off the map at Heysham Harbour).[/p][p]These services are operated by Class 47 locomotives that feature in the route Add-on, with formations including Mk1 BG coaches either side of the FNA-D wagons.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]West Coast Main Line: London - Milton Keynes[/p]
  • [p]2 Scenarios[/p]
  • [p]4 timetable services[/p]
[p]These represent trains running out of Sellafield and Dungeness nuclear sites, with in-game services running between Willesden Junction and Milton Keynes, as well as services starting/ending at Bletchley and Willesden Brent Sidings.[/p]
Riviera Line services
[p][/p][p][/p][p]Prior to the release of Train Sim World 6, we also mentioned the planned Nuclear train services that Rivet Games' Tyler implemented into the Riviera Line timetable. These will be made available for players that own Cargo Line Volume 5, plus the other Add-ons required for this unique formation.[/p]
8th Generation Consoles
[p]Please note that for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the spread of other trains running around has been reduced to provide acceptable performance. This reduction does not apply to PC, Xbox S/X or PlayStation 5 versions.[/p][p]Train Sim World 6: Cargo Line Vol.5: Nuclear is releasing on 18th November for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Epic Games Store, and Steam for £12.99/€15.99/$16.99[/p]

This can offer some challenging gameplay, managing the application and release, the latter of which can be triggered when the lever is placed one step down. The BR 140 will support a standard set of toggleable Train Faults.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]The Wittenberger Cab Car adds equally classic passenger stock, with multiple control systems compatible with different types of locomotive. The development team are currently working on implementing these controls with different locomotives in-game, including the BR 218 diesel locomotive. We will confirm which locomotives will be able to function with this cab car closer to release.[/p][p]Like the BR 140, toggleable train faults will be implemented for the cab car, as will passenger announcements throughout the coaches.[/p][p][/p][p]In addition to the new DB BR 140 and Wittenberger Cab Car, the route Add-on will include the DB BR 111, n-Wagen coaches and DB BR 363.[/p][p]This variant of the BR 111 and n-Wagen coaches will be updated to feature the following toggleable Train Faults:[/p]

  • [p]Handbrake Failures[/p]
  • [p]Stuck Passenger Doors[/p]
  • [p]Passenger Lighting failures[/p]
[p]Some minor bug fixes and improvements will also be made to this BR 111, n-Wagen coaches and BR 363 over previous versions.[/p][p]As a final note, we can confirm this route will be developed for PC and Gen-9 consoles only (Available on Steam, Epic Games, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X). We'll keep updating you over the next few weeks as more information and screenshot become available to showcase![/p][p][/p]
NEC New York – Stamford from Dovetail Games
[p]We also wanted to share a small update on our new US route, heading back to the Northeast Corridor with a new Metro North M8 EMU![/p][p][/p][p]Currently, our teams have just started working on the environment and track laying for the route, so it's a little early for screenshots and further information at this stage, but for those very keen about a new US adventure from our team, stay tuned over the next few months as we'll slowly start revealing new details and images as they become ready to share![/p]
Announcing the BNSF GP60M & GP60B from High Iron Simulations
[p]Now that we're approaching the final release of the Santa Fe Pack, which you can read about in our Santa Fe On Cajon Pass Gameplay Pack article we shared yesterday, the High Iron Simulations team are now looking ahead to announce some of their latest projects, this time introducing the distinctive “Super Fleet” GP60M and GP60B to Train Sim World 6![/p][p][/p][p]HIS: "The Electro-Motive GP60M and cabless sister GP60B were among the most distinctive and stylish of North America’s third-generation diesels – and this duo is soon coming to TSW6!"[/p][p][/p][p]"Built by Electro-Motive in 1990-1991 at the request of the Santa Fe Railway to power the railroad’s “Super Fleet” intermodal trains, 63 3,800-horsepower GP60Ms equipped with wide-nose North American cabs were constructed along with 23 cabless GP60B booster units. Originally dressed in AT&SF’s legendary ”Warbonnet” livery, the GP60M/B fleet joined the roster of newly formed BNSF (Burlington Northern Santa Fe) in 1996, and the majority of the handsome and potent diesels remain in service today."[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]"This upcoming Locomotive Pack will deliver authentic and richly detailed renditions of the GP60M and GP60B in BNSF liveries. The GP60M will be included in BNSF “H2” and “H4” schemes, while the GP60B will wear BNSF’s “H1” livery. Joining the locomotives in the pack will be an all-new model of the railroad’s modern articulated “spine” intermodal car with trailer and container loads as well as an ex-Santa Fe GA-series ribbed-side three-bay covered-hopper in BNSF colors."[/p][p]"The GP60M and GP60B will be put to work in a realistic selection of main line and local timetabled services and scenarios on the TSW Cajon Pass Route, and will offer a robust selection of bonus scenarios on the San Bernardino Route."[/p][p]"The extraordinary Electro-Motive GP60M and GP60B in original Santa Fe red-and-silver Warbonnet livery as well as a “BNSF patched” edition of the Warbonnet livery will also become available in a forthcoming TSW Livery Pack."[/p][p]Get ready to climb aboard one of North America’s most remarkable and notable contemporary diesels, with the upcoming TSW6 GP60M and GP60B from High Iron Simulations![/p][p][/p]
Santa Fe On Cajon Pass Gameplay Pack - Releasing November 13th 2025!
[p]As mentioned above, be sure to catch the release of the Santa Fe On Cajon Pass Pack releasing next week on Thursday November 13th 2025.[/p][p][/p][p]Experience Californian railroading of the 1990s, and let the lavish colors of the ATSF repopulate the rugged Cajon Pass route during the final years of Santa Fe operations. Embark on a variety of duties with 2 classic examples of ATSF equipment; the C40-8W and SD40-2, in iconic Warbonnet and freight liveries.[/p][p]The pack also features three entirely new AT&SF freight cars and three existing TSW freight cars repainted in Santa Fe liveries.[/p][p][/p][p]Read all about the pack in full detail on our Santa Fe On Cajon Pass Gameplay Pack article[/p]
Avanti West Coast BR Class 805 from All Aboard Studios
[p]Following the launch of their first add-on into Train Sim World 6 with Birmingham-Crewe, the All Aboard Studios team are back for an update on the Class 805 currently in development. Let's hear from from their team about their progress and further details![/p][p][/p][p]AABS: "As we move closer to release, the Class 805 is now in its final stages of development and the team is excited to be adding another key piece to the modern look of the West Coast Main Line. Throughout testing the unit has brought a fresh and contemporary energy to the routes it serves. Its responsive traction, dual mode capability, newly captured 2024 audio and sharp Avanti styling all combine to give it a very present day feel. It has been designed to sit naturally within the modern railway and its arrival completes an important part of the current WCML picture."[/p][p][/p][p]"Alongside the 2025 timetable for WCML South, we are pleased to reveal that the Birmingham to Crewe route will also gain a full modern day twenty four hour timetable based on real operations in 2025. This does not replace the original 2019 version. Instead, it provides a completely different style of action that reflects how the route runs today. Liverpool services now turn back at Birmingham New Street, the Stoke loop service is represented through an AI shuttle that waits out on Stafford platform 6, and the much loved Class 390s between Crewe and Birmingham now call at Stafford with reduced wait times at Wolverhampton to better reflect the current pattern. The variety continues with broader freight representation, fresh railtour paths and a set of ECS moves that ensure there is always something new happening around you."[/p][p][/p][p]"The Class 805 sits naturally within this updated flow, strengthening the sense of a living, modern WCML without dominating the timetable. It contributes with a mix of short and long distance workings and regular depot movements to and from Oxley, helping the wider service pattern feel busy and up to date. West Midlands Railway continue to handle stopping and fast regional runs between Birmingham and Wolverhampton, LNWRs Class 350s manage their established semi fast pattern to Crewe, and Transport for Wales maintain their cross border movements in line with present day behaviour. A number of special workings also appear, including Class 47 tours and a recreation of the 2024 Class 323 farewell tour, each supported by unique empty stock activity."[/p][p]"Across the full twenty four hour period the timetable contains 2171 services in total with 510 of them driveable. It makes full use of modern stock where appropriate with some older traction retained where it improves the completeness and gameplay value of the timetable. And as with other routes, any layers that affect immersion can be disabled to suit player preference. The aim is simply to provide another fully organised, believable and contemporary timetable for Birmingham to Crewe that stands confidently alongside the new WCML South 2025 timetable."[/p][p]"With both routes now gaining their own modern day working patterns and the Class 805 tying the network together with its current intercity presence, the West Coast Main Line is about to feel more alive, more connected and more reflective of todays railway than ever before. We are excited for players to get their hands on the new BR Class 805 and its enhanced gameplay inclusions which give WCML fans even more to thrive on."[/p][p]Thank you All Aboard Studios for the update this month, we look forward to sharing more information as we approach the end of the year, but for now let's head over to our friends at Just Trains for details on their two upcoming releases.[/p][p][/p]
Transport for Wales Class 142 'Pacer' from Just Trains
[p]Firstly, we wanted to provide a less-wordy, more-screenshot-ty update on the TfW Class 142 add-on, coming for the Cardiff City Network route, as it gets closer to release![/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]We've provided various updates on this add-on in our past Roadmaps, which you can jump to with our links, from the announce in April, 142 modelling details and key timetable information, but we'll also provide a short summary below:[/p][p][/p][p]Just Trains: "The Class 142 is arriving in its Transport for Wales livery, featuring LED Headlights, 2 leaf Bi-Fold doors, updated door open/close operating buttons, sanding equipment and additional key modelling details, such as the smash glass to access emergency door handle (non-operational), NRN (National Radio Network) and GSM-R antenna."[/p][p]"The timetable included is set in 2019 where the service pattern on the valley lines was quite different compared to how it is now. Instead of trains going from Coryton to Penarth the trains from Coryton instead went to Radyr (a journey much quicker by foot as it’s a U shape) and the Penarth trains instead go to Bargoed and Rhymney instead of Coryton."[/p][p]"Class 142’s run most of the valley line diagrams but in 2019 TfW had a couple of Class 37 diagrams with Mk2F’s running services up to Rhymney which you’ll be able to drive up to Heath High Level. The timetable will also be including Class 802’s, 150’s, 165’s and HST Castle sets for GWR traffic, 170’s and the once-a-day Class 220 for Crosscountry."[/p][p]"For the longer distance TfW services you’ll have Class 150’s in their Ex-ATW guise."[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]We'll be sharing more details shortly about when you can expect to pick up this add-on, so be sure to follow our socials and latest news![/p]
West Coast Main Line: Crewe–Preston from Just Trains
[p]The Just Trains team are also continuing well with their development for the announced West Coast Main Line: Crewe–Preston add-on.[/p][p][/p][p]As a reminder, this route will explore a busy section in North-West England, set in the 1980s, including the historic railway town of Crewe, as well as a multitude of branches which will allow you to explore a number of lesser-known areas, such as the Deepdale branch north of Preston. You'll be driving the Class 86/4 on high-speed Passenger and Freight runs between Preston and Crewe, as well as updated and improved Class 20/0 and 47/3 locomotives![/p][p]Let's hear from their team on the latest updates and screenshots:[/p][p]Just Trains: "\[We are] continuing to develop the upcoming West Coast Main Line - Crewe to Preston route, and we wanted to provide a new selection of Work-In-Progress screenshots illustrating the front end variations of the Class 47/3, along with an image of the updated cab, featuring the vital Slow Speed Control for MGR Coal Operations."[/p][p][/p][p]"Along with the Class 47/3 we are also proud to display some images of the route itself, including Winsford Station, Salop Goods Junction Signal Box, Crewe Gresty Lane, Fiddlers Ferry Power Station, Warrington, Wigan Springs Branch TMD and Newton-Le-Willows station."[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]We'll continue to be sharing more news from the Just Trains team as they share progress updates, and equally, if you're looking to read more from their own blogs, be sure to visit the Just Trains In Development Blog Page for more information on both the Class 142 and Crewe-Preston route![/p][p][/p]
Cargo Line Volume 5: Nuclear from Skyhook Games
[p]Announced back in June this year, the Skyhook Games team have been working hard on the next edition to the popular Cargo Line series, this time they're going nuclear! Let's hear a quick summary of the pack and history for this add-on:[/p][p]Skyhook Games: "Introducing the FNA-D Flask Carrier wagons and their perfect partner the Type 1 Class 20/3 diesel locomotive in an unbranded Oxford blue livery, this pack represents where, during 1994, Direct Rail Services (DRS) had the sole purpose of taking over rail-based handling of nuclear material from British Rail, eventually operated a fleet of 21 examples of the English Electric Type 1s, being significantly upgraded with long-range fuel tanks, group standard headlight clusters, high-impact windscreens and a complete cab rebuild before outshopping them in iconic Oxford Blue livery with fully yellow ends and red buffer beams."[/p][p]"In the 2010s, it was identified that replacements were required new batch featured several major updates including exposed framing, different bogies, and the ability to carry a wider range of flask designs. Despite the reduction in nuclear power plants in the UK since the millennium, the FNA-Ds can still be seen in use across much of the UK.”
[/p][p]Progress is coming along very well from these couple screenshots, and just next week we'll be back with a full announce article for Cargo Line Volume 5, exploring all the details about the pack you could want to discover ahead of it release, and a wider ranges of new images![/p][p][/p]
BR Class 90 from Alan Thomson Simulation
[p]We're coming back with all-new screenshots following our announcement of this new add-on from the ATS team last month, so let's hand over to them for more![/p][p]ATS: "Progress on the Class 90 Freight Pack for TSW6 continues at pace. Since the last roadmap, members of the ATS team have taken part in a dedicated recording session to capture the full sound set for the Class 90, ensuring an authentic audio experience."[/p][p][/p][p]"Gameplay development has been led by ATS, with SimuGraph work progressing in close collaboration with the excellent team at AND Games. We’re pleased to report that the light at the end of the tunnel is very bright — gameplay is nearing completion."[/p][p]"Livery creation has been handled by IMBUE, who’ve delivered a diverse and high-quality set of liveries that complement the pack’s flexible service mode. Players will be able to choose the freight run that suits them best, adding replayability and variety."[/p][p][/p][p]Please Note: Images displayed in this article may depict content that is still in development. The licensed brands may not have been approved by their respective owner and some artwork may still be pending approval.[/p][p]"With a rich feature set and a deeply authentic driving experience, we’re confident the community will appreciate the attention to detail and realism this pack delivers."[/p][p]Thank you from the ATS team, it's great to hear more details about the project, and the wonderful collaboration between your team with the AND & IMBUE groups![/p][p][/p]
London Overground Mildmay Line - Richmond Extension from Incredible Trains
[p]We also have a short update from Johannes at Incredible Trains, creator of the London Overground Mildmay Line which released back in March, about his current project to extend the route to Richmond, and the potential for further improvements.[/p][p]Incredible Trains: "Progress has been steady, but I'm looking to also bring the route up to the current TSW6 standard, adding announcements, train faults and temporary speed restrictions, but waiting to confirm the option to use real announcements \[first]".[/p][p][/p][p]He's also noted looking at key fixes from the original release alongside this update to support performance and improve the experience, but we'll keep you informed of what changes will come once Johannes has been able to complete his work on the project.[/p][p]We're excited to share more, and we know that many of you are eager to get your hands on these updates, so we'll keep you informed as Johannes continues to improve and bring new features to the route![/p][p][/p]
Introducing Firefly Simulations - A New TSW Partner!
[p]Once again this month, we have the privilege to formally introduce new partners to our Partner Programme, with Firefly Simulations joining the rank, composed of members that you may know from across our online communities! Whilst we don't have details of their release this month, we wanted to give you a chance to learn more about their team ahead of any announcements on the horizon![/p][p][/p][p]Q: Tell us more about your studio/team! (And where people may have heard about you?)[/p][p]"Currently our team comprises of five people, but we will likely be expanding that in the future. Rather than speak for everyone on my team I’m going to let each of them say a little bit about themselves, and where you are likely to know them from."[/p][p]Fawx (Adam): "People will know me from my previous timetable mods, and might have noticed I’ve gone quiet regarding those lately, this is why. I’m in charge of gameplay in our group, as well as signalling with Steve and some of the backend things."[/p][p]Bescot (Steve): "I’ve been involved in train sim modding for a long time now! I was part of several teams creating routes and trains for a Japanese simulator called BVE, one of which was a fictional route network route called Network West Midlands. I was proud to have my London Underground Northern line route converted into a simulator at the London Transport Museum. More recently I've made a fair few mods for TSW and have been part of creating many EP packs for the game."[/p][p]Charlie (Charlie): "People may have seen my name around the Train Sim Community website, publishing some of my own mods and collaborating on others. I’m in charge of train setup."[/p][p]Jetwash (James): "Having fallen into train sims almost by accident around 2018 people may have seen my name around TSW, Train Sim Classic, the TSC site and the DTG forums for a number of years now. Over that period I’ve published a number of my own mods and collaborated on many others. I’m really proud of what we have achieved in a short space of time and am looking forward to this route breaking cover."[/p][p]Spratty (Eddie): "Most people will know me on the Train Sim Community site for mods I've made for the PC users such as the Class 66 Megapack and the West Coast Main Line Enhancement Pack. I work on scenery 3d model creation."[/p][p][/p][p]Q: What is it that made you want to develop content for Train Sim World?[/p][p]Fawx (Adam): "Creating modded timetables made me want to do more, and get more involved with TSW, it was something I really enjoyed, so figured it was worth a shot."[/p][p]Bescot (Steve): "Whilst making mods and enhancement packs for TSW I've made friends with some very talented people. It was the natural step from creating mods, and beta testing for DTG to create something from scratch."[/p][p]Charlie (Charlie): "It wasn't long after I started modding that I felt like I wanted to take things further, as I often tried to push the boundaries of what was possible with just mods. I wanted to take what I learned and do it officially, while still continuing to learn even more with the support of DTG."[/p][p]Jetwash (James): "After modding for a while I wanted to take things further, as I felt I’d rapidly reached the limit of what was possible. It was as much finding the right group of people to take on the challenge with as anything else."[/p][p]Spratty (Eddie): "Having worked on both the standard base Unreal editor and the public TSW editor since getting into this community 5 years ago, my aspiration was to always create official content for Train Sim World, and with the help of a few talented individuals within the Train Sim Community, now was the chance to properly show what I could achieve with the skills that I've acquired."[/p][p][/p][p]Q: Finally, what part of the development process are you really enjoying?[/p][p]Fawx (Adam): "I do really enjoy creating timetables, it’s almost therapeutic at times when you get everything working together like a well oiled machine. The biggest thing that surprised me that I ended up enjoying was signalling. It’s a very logical system, and is quite rewarding to get right."[/p][p]Bescot (Steve): "The teamwork, being able to come together seamlessly to solve issues between us has been a really good experience. The signalling work has also been interesting and I’ve enjoyed putting stations together. I initially said I'd concentrate on scenery, but since we starting work on our DLC I've been involved in most parts of the process.. I've learned a lot!"[/p][p]Charlie (Charlie): "I've found the loco development process in particular to be challenging at times but highly rewarding when it comes to seeing the results."[/p][p]Jetwash (James): "I enjoy creating as accurate a representation of the real world in the simulated sphere as possible. Whilst attention to detail is my default position, I also want to create a sense of identity and feel about a place, so where a 1-to-1 recreation of the real world isn’t possible, the player is still in no doubt as to where they are."[/p][p]Spratty (Eddie): "For me, learning new tips and tricks on how to streamline my workflow processes when creating the models & textures from scratch has been by far the most enjoyable thing I've learnt since starting this project."[/p][p]It's great to get an insight from all the members of the group, and learn more about Firefly Simulations! We have so many partners working on add-ons for TSW, and they all come in various team sizes, spread in different regions across the world, and working on a huge variety of projects. I look forward to revealing more about what your team has been cooking up, possibly before the end of the year... Stay tuned![/p][p][/p]
Additional Add-ons In-Development
[p]As a final note on this section, we have further add-ons progressing well from more partners, but we won't always share news on everything with each Roadmap article if there's no major updates at this stage. Santa Fe on Cajon Pass - Coming Soon!
Introducing: High Iron Simulations
[p][/p][p]High Iron Simulations have been a Partner developer for Train Simulator Classic since 2016, producing a variety of TSC products ranging from scenario and locomotive packs to routes. This is their first release for Train Sim World.[/p][p][/p][p]Their team represents an experienced group of developers including Michael Stephan, Rick Grout, Cesar “Mannu” Pach, Ricardo "Reppo" Rivera, Jonathan Lewis, Martin Velozo and Gary Dolzall.[/p][p][/p][p]In May 2024, we announced their intentions to develop a Santa Fe themed Gameplay Pack, with gradual updates coming over the course of subsequent months.[/p][p][/p][p]High Iron Simulations also has a U.S. freight route and a Locomotive Pack in active development, and additional products in planning.[/p][p][/p]
The Setting: Cajon Pass, early 1990s
[p][/p][p]Cast your mind back to Californian railroading of the 1990s and picture the scene; the former ATSF, known simply as Santa Fe, was one of the most prominent Class 1 Railroads of the United States. Since its inception in 1859, Santa Fe had amassed over 13000 route miles and was the operator of some of the most famous trains in the US, as well as of course, a vast freight network.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]In this Add-on for Train Sim World 6, the lavish colors of the ATSF repopulate the rugged Cajon Pass route, recreating the experience of the early 1990s - the final years of Santa Fe operations. Embark on a variety of duties with 2 classic examples of ATSF equipment; the C40-8W and SD40-2, in iconic Warbonnet and freight liveries.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Utilizing a new trio of freight cars from ATSF’s roster, as well as contemporary variations of existing equipment, get to work hauling locals, switching in yards and running mainline manifests, as well as hefty intermodals across an all-new timetable based on real Santa Fe schedules, and 5 new scenarios.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Scheduled services will include player-drivable services featuring mainline intermodal and freight trains, switching, and locals. The services are closely based on actual Santa Fe freight schedules and horsepower assignments of the era and include more than 250 train movements per 24-hour period.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Additionally, Union Pacific freight movements across Cajon Pass will be represented in an extra layer using UP equipment from the Sherman Hill route Add-on.[/p][p][/p]
The Rolling Stock
SD40-2

AT&SF blue-and-yellow freight livery
[p][/p][p]The SD40-2 is an all-American hero which is nationwide-renowned for its yesteryear mainline service. Now considered a veteran, the SD40-2 is kept to secondary duties in charge of local working and switching in yards and industries. This turbocharged, 3,000-horsepower six-axle locomotive was part of the heart and soul of the Electro-Motive Dash 2 line, along with other locomotives types like the GP38-2, seen in other Train Sim World Add-ons.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Santa Fe-specific details have been modeled on this rebuilt variant of the SD40-2, including the distinctive inset lower headlight. The inclusion of Union Pacific layers for players of Sherman Hill adds even more SD40-20 action![/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Anyone new to the SD40-2 can get familiar with the controls of an unbranded version in Train Sim World 6's Training Center.[/p][p][/p]
C40-8W

Warbonnet red-and-silver livery
[p]
General Electric’s C40-8W (also commonly known as the Dash 8-40CW) was produced at GE’s Erie, Pennsylvania plant from 1989 through 1994. GE constructed 847 of the 4,000-horsepower, six-axle (C-C) diesels powered by the builder’s capable 7FDL16 four-cycle power plant. An evolutionary refinement of GE’s advanced line of diesels begun with the “Dash 7” series, the C40-8W is visually notable for its use of the stylish “North American Cab.”[/p][p][/p][p]Previously a CSX version of this locomotive was released as a separate Add-on for the Sand Patch Grade route.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Like the SD40-2, specific Santa Fe features have been modeled on this variant for the Santa Fe Gameplay Pack, such as the unique “gull wing” cab.[/p][p][/p][p]There will be a new tutorial to play guiding players through the controls of the C40-8W as part of this Add-on.[/p][p][/p]
Wagons and Freight Cars
[p][/p][p]The pack also features three entirely new AT&SF freight cars and three existing TSW freight cars repainted in Santa Fe liveries.[/p][p]The new items of rolling stock are:[/p]
  • [p]Santa Fe two-bay cement covered hopper[/p]
  • [p]Santa Fe three-bay ribbed-side covered hopper[/p]
  • [p]86-foot auto parts boxcar[/p]
[p]Train Sim World 6: Santa Fe on Cajon Pass will release on 13th November for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Epic Games Store, and Steam for $17.99/£14.99/€17.99[/p][p]Please note that Santa Fe on Cajon Pass will be released on PC and 9th Gen Console platforms only.[/p][p][/p]
The Route: Cajon Pass
[p][/p][p]The Cajon Pass route Add-on is required to make use of the gameplay in the Santa Fe Add-on. The standard route and schedule is set in the early 2000s, featuring the bold livery of BNSF.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]85-miles (136 km) of route between Barstow and San Bernardino, California offer stunning scenery and challenging gradients for long freight consists. Unlike the Santa Fe pack, the Cajon Pass Add-on features the state-of-the-art ES44C4 diesel electric locomotive in addition to the BNSF variant of the SD40-2.[/p][p]Players of passenger-focused California route Add-ons San Bernardino Line and Antelope Valley Line can expand their operations with both layered services and Route Hopping with the Cajon Pass Add-on.[/p][p][/p]
Train Sim World 6: Out Now

Free Starter Pack available until 11th November 2025
[p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]You can still upgrade to Train Sim World 6 via the Train Sim World: Free Starter Pack, which is available to download to your collection permanently until 11th November 2025.[/p][p][/p][p]Whilst this won't grant you any new routes or trains, it will allow you to then purchase the Santa Fe on Cajon Pass Add-on, for use on the Cajon Pass route (if you own it).[/p][p][/p][p]Find out more about Train Sim World 6 by following @trainsimworld on Twitter/X, Instagram, Threads, Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok.[/p][p] [/p]

The team have prepared some optimisations, which will come in a priority hotfix for the route, aiming to release next week. More details below.

Workaround: For Xbox players experiencing crashes at Crewe, we recommend that you play in HD rather than 4k mode (you can adjust this in your console’s settings) – you can also remove the Class 150 layer and the LSL static layer to help with memory, as we believe these might be causing some of the issues.
    [/p]
  • [p]Out of memory crashes heading into Crewe
We are aiming to resolve this in the Birmingham-Crewe hotfix (details below).[/p]
  • [p]Lack of access to Voyager layers
