The Fallout 5 locations we'd love to see

The Fallout series has taken us to several classic American locations over the years. But where will Fallout 5 be set? Within the game's future setting, there are hundreds of vaults scattered across the USA, in places like West Virginia, Texas, and Colorado, meaning a multitude of possibilities for a future Fallout 5 setting.

Whatever Fallout 5 is, it will most likely be set in America. Atompunk Americana is kind of the series' whole aesthetic, so regardless of how much we want to see a China or European-based Fallout game, it ain't happening.

Nevermind the fact that we're probably several years away from Fallout 5 even being announced, with Bethesda busy working on The Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield first. We've got ideas and there's no point bottling them up until Todd Howard graces us with a 30-second CGI teaser at E3 2025. That's why we've put our heads together to come up with a list of locations that we would like to see Fallout's nuclear fire touch next. So grab your power armour and join us as we trudge through our dream picks for the Fallout 5 setting.

Fallout 4 offers what Cyberpunk 2077 doesn't: consequences

I've been thinking about Fallout 4 a lot lately. I didn't love it at launch, not like I loved Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but in the five years since it released I've come to appreciate just how good it is at making you feel like your choices will have tangible, meaningful consequences.

Fallout 76 jolted my appreciation for Bethesda Softworks' previous entry, but it took Cyberpunk 2077 to finally prod me into revisiting the irradiated wastes of the Commonwealth. I've spent just over 40 hours in Night City, plugging away at the main quest and ticking off side jobs and gigs. There's plenty to love, plenty of stuff that annoys me, and some spectacular bugs; on paper it should be striking all the same chords as Fallout 4, but it's leaving me frustrated and unsatisfied every time 'quest complete' pops up on screen.

From relatively small quests all the way to major story beats, Fallout 4 always reminds you that what you choose to do matters. One of the first side quests you pick up is Painting the Town, an otherwise bland and forgettable fetch quest where you're tasked with tracking down some paint to spruce up the walls of Diamond City. There are a few ways to get the desired green paint, or you can retrieve another colour for a lesser reward, and there are plenty of dialogue options to choose from depending on what you deliver.

We might not be able to expect Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 to launch until the second half of 2021, but there's still an "ultimate" vampire RPG game experience to sink your hungry little fangs into while you wait. That's thanks to a Fallout 4 mod that offers "a vampire survival experience of personal horror", complete with distinct "bloodlines" featuring their own perks and curses, gameplay changes, and even vampire rankings.

The new, revised Sanguinaire: The Ultimate Fallout 4 Vampire Experience mod by creators Christopher4684 and the Sanguinaire team (in association with the Summaries of Darkness YouTube channel) adds an impressively deep new layer of gameplay to Bethesda's open-world game. It's part inspired by the World of Darkness RPGs as well as Dontnod's Vampyr and real-world mythology. You play a character belonging to one of ten distinct bloodlines, each of which has its own appearance type, traits, perks, and vulnerabilities.

For example, there are the immensely powerful, highly organised, and decidedly deadly "Sanguinem Mortiferum" which boast not only the "normal vampire perks" - things like boosts to endurance, strength, agility, damage resistance, and more - but increased skill with ranged combat. Their specific perks include added VATS melee range, +20% damage when using pistols and rifles, and extra damage resistance on top.

Sneaking around the Commonwealth wasteland may seem like child's play when you use Stealth Boys, but those camouflaging devices are severely limited - if only there was another way. You've experienced the ups and downs of Fallout 4's story as an average-sized human - now it's time to see what life is like for the tiniest of creatures, with a Fallout 4 mod that introduces a brand-new way to sneak up on dangerous enemies.

El Ha/Zorkaz's Shrink Potion mod turns you into the size of an ant, reducing your detection level by 95%. As you might expect, the world of Fallout 4 hasn't been designed with the vertically challenged in mind, so conquering mighty feats like staircases may prove to be an issue. That being said, if you use the shrink potion at the right time, you should be able to sneak your way through heavily-guarded areas with ease.

Upon installing the mod, you'll be able to purchase shrink potions from Solomon, who's located within Diamond City's marketplace. As you can see from the clip below, you'll need to consider the perspectives of people roaming around because you can still be detected.
