Here's FFXIV's Astrologian job being played on a Yu-Gi-Oh! duel-disk controller

Someone has managed to get a Yu-Gi-Oh! duel-disk controller working in Final Fantasy XIV, which is pretty neat if you're looking for an immersive way to play the MMORPG's Astrologian job. Controller modder Louis 'Super Louis 64' Hamilton shared a clip on Twitter of his setup before posting the full shebang to YouTube, and it certainly looks taxing on the ol' forearm.

Hamilton explains that, after weeks of work, he's now got the setup to the point he can play through dungeons and raids with random people. His forearm is a tad too big for the toy these days, but you make do the best you can. If you're wondering where the Astrologian job comes into all of this, users attune to various constellations to draw cards that can do things like heal or resurrect allies in battle. Essentially, the link between FFXIV and Yu-Gi-Oh! here is the cards.

The content creator further explains on Twitter that each slot on the disk is assigned to a party member, though it only goes up to four members in total right now. He also says that the most challenging part of setting up the controller was "somehow figuring out how to make the Yu-Gi-Oh! cards conductive".

Belts won't be removed from FFXIV - you just can't equip them anymore

Belts won't be removed from FFXIV - you just can't equip them anymore

You might have heard that belts are being removed from Final Fantasy XIV. That's true in practical terms, but not technically accurate - they won't be zapped out of existence as soon as the Endwalker release date hits. The devs have just provided a load more detail on what to expect from the big belt change in 6.0, so here's what you need to know.

You will no longer be able to obtain or equip belts (either to yourself, retainers, or mannequins) in 6.0. Any belts in your armoury chest or equipment will be transferred to the Calamity salvager. You will still be able to turn in belts for expert delivery missions, sell them to NPCs, or desynthesize them following the switch, but you won't be able to sell them on the market board.

You will not, however, be able to extract materia from belts after 6.0 - so if you've got spiritbonded belts, you'll want to take care of that before the update lands. You'll still be able to remove affixed materia after the update, though.

FFXIV players are holding vigils for Heavensward voice actor Stephen Critchlow

Final Fantasy XIV players are gathering in-game to pay their respects to voice actor Stephen Critchlow, who lent his vocal talents to Count Edmont de Fortemps, and has passed away at the age of 54. The news of Critchlow's passing was revealed by audio drama production company Big Finish, who Critchlow had worked with over the years.

At the time of writing, FFXIV fans have held vigils on the Brynhildr, Leviathan, Jenova, Mateus, Balmung, Midgardsormr, and Adamantoise servers (below), with more likely to follow. Everyone has chosen to gather outside of Count Edmont de Fortemps's manor in Ishgard, where you first meet him. You're introduced to the character of Edmont at the start of the MMORPG's Heavensward expansion, which is one of the game's first significant slices of post-game content. At that point in the story, you're on the run from a base you've set up after falling foul to a plot of betrayal. Edmont agrees to take you in, even if it may raise some eyebrows among other citizens of Ishgard.

Critchlow also serves as the narrator of the chapter. Outside of Final Fantasy XIV, though, you'll find that the actor also voiced Xenoblade Chronicles 2's Bana and was regularly involved in audio dramas for Doctor Who.

Being a legendary hero? A slayer of dragons, an expert mage, a disciplined fighter? A fashion icon? A renowned smith? All old news. The new dream for Final Fantasy XIV players is becoming a mime. It's not even a job, so you don't have to grind to do it well - all you need to do is pay $7 USD over on the online store.

We wouldn't generally draw your attention to a paid cosmetic like this with a dedicated news story, but the animation work on the new Pantomime emote is just too good not to share. The showcase video video is impressive enough on its own. The box work! The jumps! The pratfall! 30 consecutive seconds of miming action!

As the official description suggests, this is "the quintessential act for any mime worth their salt! Become the entertainer you've always dreamed you could be with the pantomime act, and make any audience roar with laughter all without making a sound!"

FFXIV teleports are getting more expensive

"I would like for you to make sure you're seated," FFXIV producer and director Naoki Yoshida said ahead of the recent Live Letter's biggest bombshell announcement. "Just be calm when you hear this." Are you ready? Teleportation fees are getting changed, and the 999 gil cap will be removed as of the 6.0 Endwalker update.

Teleportation fees will still be calculated according to distance between teleportation points, but that formula is getting tweaked. Some teleports may be cheaper than they previously were, but longer-distance transportation will now be able to exceed 999 gil. This is a change intended to lay the foundation for further expansion, and given the fact that we've been teleporting between continents, dimensions, and soon between astrological bodies, this has probably been a long time coming.

Teleportation tickets will be adjusted in view of these changes, too. You'll have different types of teleportation tickets, and some will be limited by range. With a bit more expense involved in getting around, Yoshida recommends you make smart use of your free destination and home point to relay you to locations that would otherwise be more expensive to reach.
