Weekly Dev Log for June 12th, 2023

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Weekly Dev Log for June 12th, 2023, detailing all the changes that have happened since June 5th, 2023. Note: Devs that don't appear in the weekly log are not necessarily away or not doing work, but may be working on things currently not announced or backend work that doesn't need to be detailed.

[h2]June/July 2023 Condo Contest (Aquarium) - STARTING NOW[/h2]



Hey everyone!

For June and July the theme for the Condo Contest will be Aquarium!

Your goal will be to build an aquarium (or any other sort of fish habitat), and you can use whatever you would like to do so. Remember that Aquarium Volumes can be purchased at D.I.Y.!

The submission period ends on July 10th, 2023 at 11:59 PM.

Be sure to look at the prizes and follow the rules below!

And don't forget: You can upload your entry to the Steam Workshop for everyone to get a better look at it! If you upload your entry to Workshop, you're welcome to share the link in your post! :)

Johanna finished all the destructible items for "Frostbite". She also worked on weapons, remodeling the crossbow model, making effects for the magnum pistol, among other weapons.

joshua continued working on weapon models and animations.

Lifeless continued working on "Hinderance", finishing the level layout and the initial art pass.

macdguy finished working on some weapons, setup a explosion and projectile base for other weapons to use, and worked some more on iron sights. He also worked on the grenade launcher, the crossbow, retro gun, minigun, and Egon cannon.

Nuclearxpotato continued working on maps.

Sketchman continued working on weapon prediction.

Wheezwer worked on fake company logos for "Frostbite".

Will continued working on music.

[h2]Condo: Media Players[/h2]

macdguy worked on improving the Media Players.

[h3]Media Players now have Multiple Channels[/h3]

You can now connect multiple cameras and consoles to the same media player. There is now a new channel system that every TV has built in, once you IO connect other video sources into the media player.

You can switch between channels using the Media Player Remote item (if you have media player admin permission) or by using IO buttons with the SetChannel or NextChannel inputs.

[h3]Media Players can now be connected to other Media Players[/h3]

You can now also connect multiple media players to other media players. Media players can be connected and will have a media repeater channel and will repeat the same video as the connected TV and be in sync with what is being displayed.

[h2]May 2023 Art Contest - Game Worlds - Concluded[/h2]



The results are in! As usual, thank you to everyone who voted and participated! There were 173 responses this time.

Johanna continued adding the finishing touches to "Frostbite". She also continued working on the art pass for "Meadows", while also re-texturing a bunch of the weapons, along with adding destructables in the maps.

joshua worked on weapon models, namely the UZI and MAC-10.

Lifeless continued working on "Hinderance".

macdguy worked on touchups to the flamethrower weapon, while also tweaking all of the other weapons. He improved the recoil system, added a bullet spread system, and improved the scope systems for the magnum and bullpup.

Nuclearxpotato continued working on "Disposal".

Sketchman worked on weapon prediction for some of the weapons.

Wheezwer worked on some art for "Hinderance".

Will continued working on music for SDNL maps.

Lifeless worked on fixes for issues found with "Heavenscape".

macdguy worked on a massive networking overhaul for movement based features.

Nuclearxpotato worked on updating the "bedroom door" model, allowing for the number of inset panels to be configured. The door has also been renamed to "Paneled Door".

madmijk continued working on MIDI support.

[h3]Network Improvements[/h3]

Movement based features have had a massive networking overhaul. Prediction was added to Jetpacks, Jump Pads, Teleporters, Rocket Jumps, Trampolines, Push Volumes, Fans, Survivor's Shield (in Zombie Massacre), ramps in Accelerate, Air Dash, etc. Basically anything that moved players around was tweaked and predicted with improved networking and huge reduction in netlag issues throughout. We tested with 250-300ms ping and found these types of interactions are much smoother now.

[h2]Heavenscape Update (0.16.10.0)[/h2]



Last week, we released Update 0.16.10.0, which added the new Ball Race map, Heavenscape. The update also brought a bunch of changes, fixes, and improvements. You can read the patch notes here.

We also released a small hotfix to fix some of the issues found with the initial release, which you can find notes for here.

[h2]SDNL: New Game World[/h2]

Johanna continued adding the finishing touches to "Frostbite". She also continued working on the art pass for "Meadows", while also re-texturing a bunch of the weapons.

joshua worked on weapon models, as well as the animation rig.

Lifeless continued working on "Hinderance".

macdguy worked on the weapon re-coil system, along with other weapon changes and improvements.

Nuclearxpotato continued working on a new map, Disposal, which is based off the Virus map, Corrosion.

Sketchman worked on weapon prediction for some of the weapons.

Wheezwer worked on some prop art for "Frostbite", and worked on concept art for "Hinderance".

Will continued working on music for SDNL maps.

Lifeless worked on fixes for issues found with "Heavenscape".

macdguy reworked the controls for the Accelerate game mode, improving turning, fixing sliding, improving the camera when turning, and adding better drift visuals.

madmijk continued working on MIDI support.

Sketchman fixed some crashes, while also making achievement icons for "Heavenscape".

This update addresses bugs from the new update.

  • Ball Race - Heavenscape: Fixed missing stone collisions on level 1 and level 6
  • Ball Race - Heavenscape: Edited collisions on several levels to streamline them
  • Ball Race - Heavenscape: Fixed an oversized bumper
  • Virus - Catzek Temple: Fixed some camping spots
  • Virus - Catzek Temple: Fixed some light build issues
  • Condo IO: Fixed Toggler SetOn and SetOff firing even if the Toggler was already on/off
  • Condo IO: Fixed Toggler toggle state not happening properly
  • Condo IO: Fixed Hide/Unhide feature not restoring collision overlaps properly (causing triggers and floating chat to not unhide properly)
  • Fixed Private Theater UI showing "unlocked" always

Heavenscape Update (0.16.10.0)



Ball Race has a new map! Race against the clock on abandoned structures that snake through floating islands. Your speed will be key to traversing the slopes and grassy clearings.



This update also includes new items, a new server browser and improved rendering quality, bug fixes, and more!

Changes
  • New Ball Race map - Heavenscape!
  • New Game World & Condo server browser - now shows your friend's servers (if they have it set to friends only)
  • Improved font and UI rendering quality in higher resolutions (such as 1080p and 4K)
  • Improved server list visuals and removed the collapsible element of servers on the server list, making it easier to find and join servers with less clicks
  • Condo IO: Improved Hide/Unhide feature. Items that are hidden no longer can be used or block use traces. Hide/Unhide also no longer will change an items no collision setting as well
  • Condo: Added quick save button (owners only) to quickly save your condo as-is from the condo scoreboard
  • Added Folding Chair and Closed Folding Chair to Rob's Imports store
  • Added Round Coffee Table to Sweet Suites store
  • Improved Catsack opening system, allowing for queued catsack opening


Bug Fixes
  • Fixed Catsacks causing a crash when trying to open them, along with other issues regarding opening Catsacks
  • Fixed player voice volume setting slider not applying voice setting properly after setting it once
  • Minigolf - Waterhole: Fixed hole 18 collision issues with minecarts
  • Fixed Dumpster item making a noise on spawn
  • Fixed Canvas Decal shine not working properly
  • Fixed light build issues with Condo Hub
  • Fixed Cafe Table not being colorable
  • Optimization: Improved server list rendering times
  • Condo: Fixed Workshop physics items moving on load in
  • Condo IO: Fixed Teleport Volume use trace not working properly (wasn't using the full volume as the collision size)
  • Condo IO: Fixed Hide/Unhide causing collisions to be disabled when a item that was hidden is saved as hidden
  • Condo IO: Fixed Toggle calling OnToggled even if it didn't change state
  • Condo IO: Fixed looping Timers not stopping if you stop them right as they are about to loop again
  • Condo - Smooth Dirt: Fixed navigation volume not being large enough
  • Condo - Smooth Dirt: Added ability to completely disable the ENTIRE dirt floor
  • Fixed webM playback issues due to 4.21 changes
