Hello everyone, and welcome to the Weekly Dev Log for September 27th, 2021, detailing all the changes that have happened since September 20th, 2021. Note: Devs that don't appear in the weekly log are not necessarily away or not doing work, but may be working on things currently not announced or backend work that doesn't need to be detailed.

[h2]August / September 2021 Art Contest Results![/h2]
The art contest has concluded, and the results are in!

So, the results are:

[h2]October 2021 Halloween Condo Contest BEGINS![/h2]
As we've done in the past, the theme for October's contest is Halloween!

Feel free to interpret that how you like, whether that means making a haunted forest maze, a creepy basement, a chill Halloween party, or anything else, so long as it follows the rules and reasonably suits the theme.

[h2]Accessibility Suggestions[/h2]
We've created a forum post asking the community for suggestions on how we can improve gameplay for players with certain conditions such as colorblindness, dyslexia, or anything else that might affect a players ability to use the standard presentation and controls of the game.

[h2]Update 0.14.4.0[/h2]
Last week, we released Update 0.14.4.0, which introduced the Private Theaters, rent-able private screens for you and your friends complete with a bar, along with the new Laser Tag arena! In addition, this update included TONS of quality of life changes and bug fixes.

We're currently working on Update 0.14.4.1, which will fix some issues that came up from the last update, as well as implementing more bug fixes.

[h2]Condo: Gizmo Improvements[/h2]
Sketchman has been working on improvements to the Gizmos for condos. He's working on infinidrag, which will allow the gizmo to wrap around the screen when dragged. He also is working on angle snapping, displaying the current angle of the rotation gizmo, and fixing undo/redo to work with the multi-gizmo system.

Lifeless continued working on the new map for Little Crusaders.

JJosh continued working on new items.

madmijk fixed issues with some light items after the shadows update. He also start working on the Arcade shooting gallery (not the ride).

macdguy released Update 0.14.4.0 and worked on Update 0.14.4.1.

Wheezwer worked on concept art for a new Event Catsack and Celebrations NPC, and continued working on haunted paintings for the Shooting Gallery ride.

Will continued working on music, and started working on music for the arcade shooting gallery.

Private Theaters and Laser Tag Arena Update (0.14.4.0)



Laser Tag Revamp

Laser Tag has a new look! Maneuver your way around the new sea and space themed arena, fending off the opposing teams around new terrain, including more ramps, barriers, and vantage points!



The teams and their respective hubs have also been given a color update, to make them more visible. Charging stations should be clearer as well.

More updates to Laser Tag gameplay will come in a future update!

Private Theaters

The long awaited private theater system is now here! Just like the Volt Nightclub’s karaoke rooms, you can now rent out a theater space for you and your friends to enjoy videos in the Plaza together privately. You can also invite others in by answering their knocking at the door!

Enjoy the full theatre experience by grabbing a drink at the in-theater bar and selecting light options at the settings panel by the door to set the mood.



New Condo Surface Editor

The surface editor now displays all the materials in a larger way, making it easier to find materials. It also keeps track of the currently selected surface, along with automatically highlighting the current surface. It supports canvases and displays canvases for fast access to already used canvases. Several bugs have been ironed out as well, along with many surfaces having world align variants that they previously did not have.



Various Bug Fixes

One of our main focuses for this update was bug fixes, and it sports quite a few. We've gone through and resolved several collision bugs, voice chat issues, workshop load-in issues for condos, and much more.


Changes
  • Private Theaters!
  • New Laser Tag Arena!
  • Plaza: Added hot tubs to the rooftop
  • Plaza: Improved minigame plane physics and turning (as well as the RC plane)
  • Plaza: One of the bowling alley NPCs, Darien, has gotten a new unique character model
  • Plaza: Moved pool tubes into the beach store
  • Casino: High Roller room now has its own media player
  • Theater: Improved theater seats, made it easier to get out of them (now can use CTRL like all other seats), and you can use the media queue and your inventory while in the seat
  • Theater: Moved down the handrails so they don't block the seat view
  • Updated water FX: Transition between above/below water states is more seamless
  • Reduced amount of things blocked players can emit noise from while blocked
  • Water splash effects now scale volume and splash effects based on how fast the player/object enters the water. Also physics items now properly do splash effects
  • RC cars and vehicles now support ramps (instead of just falling down to the ground instantly)


Condo Changes
  • Condo: New & improved surface editor
  • Condo: Surface editor now has a new section for canvases. It will now list all active canvases that you can select as a surface for easier selection

  • Condo: Added setting to disable/enable shadows per light (placeable point lights will have shadows disabled by default)
  • Condo: Middle clicking on items will now immediately open the edit menu for the item
  • Condo: Item Finder now groups items by default
  • Condo: Reorganized the editor buttons such as undo/redo and advanced edit mode to be all in one line, reducing the vertical space the condo inventory takes up
  • Condo: By holding the right mouse button, you can now rotate the camera while the inventory or an edit item menu is open.
  • Condo: Improved outline effects for editing surfaces and items
  • Condo: Edit surface tooltip no longer displays while you are in gizmo state


Gameplay Changes
  • Accelerate: Vastly improved ramps and fixed desyncs relating to ramps, ensuring karts will always get properly launched off ramps
  • Little Crusaders: While scared, Knights will continue to run the same speed as they sprint, regardless if their stamina is out
  • Little Crusaders: Dragon roar no longer scares Knights who are behind walls or crouched behind objects
  • Virus - Subway: Updated lighting and atmosphere
  • Virus: Improved outline effects
  • ZM: Reduced Electrician's turret upgrade range by about 40-50%
  • ZM: Increased zombie spawn rates for games that have more than 3 players
  • Laser Tag: Improved outline effect for recharge stations
  • Laser Tag: Team Aqua is now Team Solar to keep the teams equal visibility wise
  • Laser Tag: When a player is tagged out they will now go completely invisible until they recharge


Major Bug Fixes
  • Fixed other player's head up/down movements, flashlight angles, and laser pointers not animating for the condo host
  • Fixed head rotation being very broken while in a seat
  • Fixed players sometimes having frozen animations
  • Zombie Massacre: Fixed players sometimes not spawning at the boss spawns
  • Condo: Fixed NPC workshop models not loading sometimes and defaulting to a t-pose character
  • Condo: Fixed workshop items being applied to a different item when editing a workshop model
  • Fixed voice chat repeating when voice is muted, or voice switches between 2D/3D modes, or if the player is far
  • Fixed an issue where the waiting for players menu wouldn't show up after level traveling


Bug Fixes
  • Plaza: Fixed rooftop elevator door being smaller than it should be
  • Plaza: Removed cabinet models that were spawning behind a wall of the furniture store
  • Plaza: Fixed an arcade high score screen that had a light bisecting it
  • Bowling: Fixed ceiling lights drawing on the floor which made the floor very distracting
  • Plaza: Fixed minigames not respawning players above the ground sometimes after a game ended
  • Condo: Fixed teleporter visual arrow representation blocking item traces
  • Fixed RC tank materials being missing
  • Plaza: Fixed not being able to drive up the central fountain stairs using RC vehicles
  • Condo: Fixed Canvas Cubes not having world align setting on by default
  • Condo: Fixed disabling collision option only working for hosts
  • Bowling: Fixed missing wall in Bowling lane #8
  • Item: Fixed Holdable Balloon not attaching properly for the knight milestone
  • The Stray: Fixed Magic Trampoline not being listed properly when selecting magic tools at The Stray
  • Milestone: Fixed Ghost milestone using the old ghost model
  • Condo: Fixed Teleport absolute rotation setting not being copied properly by Copycat
  • Condo - Suite: Removed weird floating support beams where the patio roof is
  • Condo - Suite: Fixed staircase corner being overly bright/not the same texture as the rest of the staircase wall
  • Condo - Suite: Fixed z clipping in upstairs area
  • Condo - House: Fixed doors sometimes being desynced and open for clients (but closed for the host)
  • Condo: Fixed some color issues with the search bar and item finder inventory UI
  • Condo: Fixed Sand material not being in the nature category
  • Condo: Fixed Arcade carpet material not tiling or world aligning
  • Condo: Removed duplicate Plaza brick materials and added a wet variation
  • Condo: Fixed several materials missing icons
  • Condo: Fixed Limestone Dark Tile material not being as reflective as it should be
  • Condo: Fixed sliding roof not saving if it's closed or not in the condo save data
  • Condo: Fixed some items not having the ability to toggle their collision
  • Condo: Fixed various condo surface materials not having tiling or colorable support. Specifically these: Fence, Grey Carpet, Metal Trim, Casino Wall, Cosmic, Lava 1 & 2, all the grass, Mud, Moss, Sand, Acid, Boost, Nightclub screens, Celebrations Rug, Slime, Swift Field, Oasis Tile, Paradise Wood Wall, probably a few others. Note: You may have to reapply a few of these surfaces to see the changes take place (such as grass 1, grass 2, metal trim)
  • Plaza: Fixed not being able to interact with media players while in a seat
  • Plaza: Fixed an issue with seats where you could be stuck in seat mode, but not actually in the seat (requiring you to press leave seat again)
  • UI: Fixed key prompts not hiding when in HUD hide mode
  • Items: Fixed hot tub items allowing you to toggle lights off/on with use (now only does the seat aspects). You can still toggle lights off/on using the item settings menu
  • Game Worlds: Fixed voice chat in game worlds not adjusting volume properly with the volume slider
  • Condo: Fixed tiny potion item spawning in the condo
  • Item: Fixed Wowozela effects not coming out of player faces and also having different positions when switching between first person and third person
  • Item: Fixed outdoor wood bench item not having seats
  • Appearance: Fixed feminine summer outfit not being selectable
  • Milestone: Fixed turret milestone not firing for clients (and players not sitting down correctly)
  • Milestone: Fixed turret milestone seat causing players to get put outside of the map in certain scenarios
  • Milestone: Fixed turret milestone lacking muzzle flash effects
  • Condo: Fixed canvas animations not working for canvas flags and canvas screen types
  • Condo: Fixed Transdimensional Painting being different for client and host while in absolute rotation mode
  • Milestone: Fixed minigolf milestone item camera being really slow
  • Arcade: Fixed not being able to play arcade games properly while having the ghost, knight, or monster potion milestones equipped
  • Plaza only: Fixed leaving Plaza seats resetting your camera/position to a weird location. Now it will put you back where you were before you sat down


Game World Bug Fixes
  • Accelerate - Sunrise Isles: Fixed ramp just before the finish line not always launching karts properly
  • Accelerate - Pine Valley Track 2: Fixed ramp across the main bridge not always launching karts properly
  • Accelerate - Pine Valley: Improved rock collisions on track 1
  • Accelerate - Pine Valley: Fixed a few areas where you wouldn't go out of bounds on track 2
  • Accelerate: Fixed golf hole eating items that weren't thrown (for example if you drove over a golf hole while holding a bowling ball that you haven't used yet, it would eat the bowling ball)
  • Minigolf - Garden: Fixed railings not having their original bounciness (before the art pass), causing many HIOs being hard or impossible to get
  • Ball Race - Prism: Fixed getting stuck on a railing segment on level 11
  • Ball Race: Improved camera fade out system to work more reliably and with multiple platforms blocking the camera
  • Ball Race - Oasis: Fixed level 1 brides fading out incorrectly
  • Ball Race - Oasis: Fixed level 7 rotating segments incorrectly fading out too early/not reliably
  • Ball Race - Oasis: Improved collisions for level 2 to ensure you can't get stuck inside of the tube cage part
  • Ball Race - Prism: Fixed an issue where you could get stuck between the railings and platforms on level 14
  • Ball Race - Oasis: Fixed getting stuck on an exit tube in level 2
  • Little Crusaders - Market: Fixed a collision issue where you can get stuck in the corner above the stairs leading down to the sewers

  • Little Crusaders - Toy Room: Fixed several collisions regarding cards and tracks, along with some optimizations
  • Little Crusaders - Mystic Grove: Fixed several collision issues with rocks and wheelbarrows
  • Little Crusaders - Mystic Grove: Rocks that players slip on now have a more distinct texture compared to rocks you don't slip off of, also reduced some rocks that you slip off of that got a bit confusing
  • Little Crusaders - Mystic Grove: Fixed the fire pit burning you when you weren't near the fire pit
  • Little Crusaders - Mystic Grove: Fixed various parts of the ground being too steep to walk up
  • Little Crusaders - Mystic Grove: Fixed bad collision in cave rocks
  • Little Crusaders: Fixed dragon not regaining stamina if out of stamina when in air and sprint key is still held down
  • Virus - Overtime: Fixed a few graphical bugs

Madmijk has been working on optimizing the Laser Projectors, as well as giving users the ability to optimize their own Laser Projectors.

Lifeless continued working on a new map for Little Crusaders.

macdguy continued working on getting Update 0.14.4.0 ready for release. He also fixed issues with head rotation while in seats, and added water splashes that are affected by velocity.

Sketchman continued working on improvements and optimizations. He fixed issues with animations when starting a server, and worked on infinite drag for Gizmos (so the mouse will wrap around the screen). He also fixed the issue with Voice Chat where voice chat would replay voice data.

Wheezwer worked on concept art for a new Event Catsack and Celebrations NPC, and continued working on haunted paintings for the Shooting Gallery ride.

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Weekly Dev Log for September 7th, 2021, detailing all the changes that have happened since August 30th, 2021. Note: Devs that don't appear in the weekly log are not necessarily away or not doing work, but may be working on things currently not announced or backend work that doesn't need to be detailed.

[h2]August / September 2021 Art Contest![/h2]
We're running another art contest this month!

Try your hand at creating Tower Unite related art, paintings, pixel art, and more!

All participants may be awarded participation prizes, with the winner netting 1,000,000 units!

[h2]Accessibility Suggestions[/h2]
We've created a forum post asking the community for suggestions on how we can improve gameplay for players with certain conditions such as colorblindness, dyslexia, or anything else that might affect a players ability to use the standard presentation and controls of the game.

If you have any ideas or suggestions, and possible solutions on how to solve a particular issue, please check out the forum post here.

[h2]Next Dev Log[/h2]
The next Dev Log will be on September 20th, 2021.

[h2]Update 0.14.4.0[/h2]
Work continues on the next update to Tower Unite, Update 0.14.4.0, which will introduce the Private Theaters, rentable private screens for you and your friends complete with a bar!

This update will also include the new Lazer Tag arena, as well as Track 2 to the Accelerate map, "Sunrise Isles".

In addition, this update will include several quality of life changes and bug fixes.

[h2]Miscellany[/h2]

Johanna worked on finishing any work needed for the completion of the next update. She worked on fixing issues with the new water system, and also continued working on the Shooting Gallery ride.

JJosh continued working on more arcade plushies and NPCs.

Lifeless continued working on a new map for Little Crusaders.

macdguy continued working on getting Update 0.14.4.0 ready for release.

Madmijk worked on optimizing the Laser Projector item.

Sketchman continued working on improvements and optimizations. He worked on getting rotation working for multiple item Gizmo, as well as working on fixing issues with the Voice Chat system.

Wheezwer continued working on posters for the Shooting Gallery ride, as well as working on dialogue for the Private Theatres NPC.
