Clarification and Reminder on Inappropriate Workshop Content in Tower Unite

After some discussions with the community on Steam, on our Discord, and among our team about Workshop, we want to clarify our rules on inappropriate sexual content. We have always had rules about sexual content, but, going forward, we want to be more clear about them and how we will be enforcing them as developers, when necessary.

So, this is our clarified policy on inappropriate sexual content on Workshop as of October 5, 2020:

We will not allow content that is inappropriate, sexually offensive, or over-sexualized, such as:
  • Models that include sexually explicit language
  • Models with hypersexualized features (for example: over-exaggerated chests, hips, “bulges”, etc.)
  • Models with inappropriately exposed skin (for example: nudity, a character only wearing a thong or small underwear, etc.)
  • Models only wearing underwear
  • Models with modeled genitalia (both visible and hidden)
  • Models that clearly allude to sexual fetishes (again: over-exaggerated features, fetishistic clothing, etc.)
  • Models from a sexual/pornographic source


Models that break these rules should be reported to us through Steam, and we will continue to go through and ban/remove models which break the rules when we have the time.

We will not make a content filter to hide or allow this content.

If you have uploaded content in the past which breaks these rules, including content that is currently marked as inappropriate, we’d recommend removing it as soon as possible, as it will be removed from our Workshop when we are made aware of it, resulting in a temporary workshop ban issued by Steam.

You have until October 9th, 2020 to remove models that break these clarified rules on your own before they may be removed by us, unless there is a pressing issue requiring their removal.

Our reasoning for these rules is that Tower Unite is intended to be a place for people to hang out, have fun, and make friends. Allowing sexual, lewd, inappropriate, and pornographic content can make people feel uncomfortable and disrespected, and that is not the environment we want, nor do we desire to make it easier for that type of content to exist in our game.

Please remember to review our Workshop rules and Steam’s rules before uploading, and remember that Tower Unite’s Workshop does not permit users to upload political, racist, or sexist content either.

Keep in mind that Tower Unite is not complete, and we will continue to add features to our game (such as improved tutorials, Workshop system settings, Canvas system settings, and the improved Condo browser) which will foster a comfortable and safe environment for players to have fun, while still allowing user-uploaded content.

Weekly Dev Log for October 5th, 2020

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Weekly Dev Log for October 5th, 2020, detailing all the changes that have happened since September 28th, 2020. Note: Devs that don't appear in the weekly log are not necessarily away or not doing work, but may be working on things currently not announced or backend work that doesn't need to be detailed.

[h2]Update 0.12.0.0[/h2]
Last week, we released Update 0.12.0.0, containing Co-op condos, which allow a condo owner to authorize their friends to help them build their condo. Co-op condos contain a permissions system, allowing the condo host to specify what actions an individual is allowed to perform. You can read more about Update 0.12.0.0 here.

[h2]Hotfix 0.12.0.1[/h2]
Last week, we also released Hotfix 0.12.0.1, which fixed some issues with the 0.12.0.0 update, as well as a couple minor changes. You can read more about the hotfix here.

[h2]October 2020 Condo Contest[/h2]
This month, we're running a spooky, Halloween-themed Condo Contest! This contest ends at 11:59 PM PST on October 31st, 2020. Winner takes home 1,000,000 units! You can read more about the contest, as well as rules for Co-op condo submissions here.

Work has begun on Halloween 2020 update, which will bring back the Halloween Plaza, various Halloween Events, and items.

Johanna worked on fixing up the Halloween Plaza, and is working on re-theming and updates to the Halloween Plaza.

JJosh began working on pets, items, and masks for the Halloween 2020 update.

Johanna finished the "By the Sea Shore" store, the Lighthouse, and the Lighthouse peninsula, while also cleaning up various pieces of geometry around the plaza.

Lifeless continued working on the Accelerate map, "Waterfall".

macdguy worked on getting Update 0.12.0.0 and Hotfix 0.12.0.1 released, and is now working on Halloween Events.

Madmijk worked on fixing issues with various items, while also working on fixing off centered canvas variations and adding drag slots to them.

Wheezwer continued working on concept art for "Nahnia", the minigame area for Plane War and Snowball Battle, while also working on art for the Arcade Shooting Gallery and Logo.

Hot Fix 0.12.0.1

This update focuses on fixing various issues in the game, mainly ones from Co-op Condos.

Changes
  • Added 5 more grass surface materials
  • Moved Water, Grass, Moss, and Mud materials to Natural surface category
  • Item Finder now colors with your inventory color
  • Made Item Finder a bit more easier to notice


Bug Fixes
  • Fixed canvas statue image being upside down
  • Fixed Ladder top still allowing instant climb even if instant climb is disabled
  • Fixed Ladders not replicating/networking to clients
  • Fixed glass frame items having its X/Y scale erroneously swapped
  • Fixed solid collision on door frame building panels
  • Fixed default canvas items not always shifting to correct for item origin change
  • Fixed Bushes not coloring properly
  • Fixed Ladder not showing up in the Stairs inventory category
  • Fixed Canvas Wall not having drag slots
  • Fixed Canvas Sphere collision not stretching properly again
  • Fixed not being able to sell items while in Lobby (due to a Co-op Condo permission bug)
  • Fixed clients not being able to set canvas data on condo surfaces, even if they have permission
  • Fixed item drag slot index not being remembered when dragging an item and then placing a new identical one
  • Fixed the Doorframe Small Wood item not having a colour element for the wall section.
  • Fixed the neon bar item not resizing its light source length based on the item scale

Co-Op Condos (0.12.0.0)

Co-Op Condos!

You can now invite your friends to build with you in your Condo!

To get started:
  • Host your Condo
  • Invite some of your friends
  • Click on your friend's profile from within the scoreboard and set their permissions
  • Grant the "Edit ALL Items” permission to give players access to spawning & editing items


There's a bunch of additional permissions you can grant such as "Noclip" as well! We also added an audit log so you can keep track of player actions.

With permissions granted, your friends will be able to access your items and place them down in your Condo!


Item Snapping

Item snapping is here! Certain building items now have snappable points (called drag slots) that let you easily snap them together with ease and precision.

To enable item snapping:
  • Drag an item and enter the item snap mode by tapping E twice
  • From there you'll be able to drag certain building items and snap them by dragging and dropping over the slots
  • You can toggle visibility of the drag slots by tapping the O key


Item Finder 2.0

The item finder got a major overhaul in this update as well. It has now moved from the scoreboard to the Inventory menu (when you hold Q). It's on the right side of the screen and can be expanded and collapsed whenever you need it.

There are now options to edit, lock, and stash items using the item finder. You can also search for items! (Additionally, it should no longer lag when you open the finder on large condos.)

  • Condo Foliage Quality of Life Update
  • Condo: Added ability to toggle on world align texture mode for canvases and surfaces. World align mode will eliminate stretched textures
  • Condo: Doors now have more settings! Added auto-close, auto-close delay, locked (permission required/admin needed to open), and open on spawn
  • Inventory: Added shortcuts to Tower Express and refresh inventory on the inventory UI
  • Inventory: The edit menu now has options to lock, stash, or sell items
  • Inventory: While in Advanced Edit Mode, now left clicking on items instantly opens the edit menu (no right click popup menu anymore)
  • Inventory: Advanced edit mode right click no longer opens the edit menu on items, allowing for the camera rotation to work without interruptions
  • Inventory: Added a preview/size info tooltip for canvases (the eye icon next to the URL input)
  • Cleaned up House condo a bit: addressed some lighting issues (especially at night), and also improved more of the map visuals.
  • Cleaned up Resort condo a bit: overhauled the lighting (especially outdoors), and fixed some miscellaneous issues
  • Cleaned up Underwater condo a bit: fixed up the lighting at the surface, adjusted some lighting and effects when underwater
  • Added "leave me alone" setting to disable handheld fan (and other items in the future) being applied on you
  • You can now rotate items you are about to copy with the Copycat tool with the scroll wheel
  • When duplicating items with Copycat, the rotation is now the same as if you were dragging an item (it'll align to walls properly). Also added a toggle to return to the original Copycat spawn method (item always facing Z up)
  • Added Pumpkin Head, Ghost, and Werewolf to available monsters to the monster potion
  • Added canvas animation support to Jack-o-Lantern, Crystal Ball, and Haunted TV
  • Added canvas file size information within the new item finder next to the canvas item name
  • Added Lantern, Jack-o-Lantern, Haunted TV, and Skull Candle from exclusive Halloween events to the Celebrations store
  • Added Ladder item to D.I.Y. store
  • Added Primitives section canvas cube, canvas sphere, etc.) to D.I.Y. store for better organization
  • Repriced all Canvas primitives from 1,000 units to 100 units. This includes: Canvas Cone, Canvas Cube, Canvas Cylinder, Canvas Dome, Canvas Pyramid, Canvas Sphere, Canvas Wall, and Canvas Wedge
Bug Fixes
  • Fixed moving objects/platforms being desynced in Minigolf and Ball Race
  • Condo Workshop Browser: Resolved issues where the browser would time out during searches
  • Inventory: Fixed issues with canvas input slider setting the wrong values when you manually enter a number
  • Inventory: Fixed a bug when clicking on edit item requiring two clicks to click on edit settings due to focus issue
  • Fixed floating chat messages from the past showing up when you view another player after being far away from them or in a place that hides chat messages like the theater
  • Fixed Theater Seat color not working properly, also added the ability to color the plastic separately from the cushion
  • Inventory: Fixed being able to accidentally sit in seats while in advanced build mode
  • Inventory: Fixed advance edit mode right click camera not working while gizmos or editing items are active
  • Inventory: Fixed a bug that required double clicking to edit any of the settings when first editing an item
  • Inventory: Fixed hovering over advanced edit button causing the inventory to slide open
  • Inventory: Fixed media player queue opening up & staying up forever while in advanced editor mode
  • Condo - Underwater: Fixed underwater states occurring at the wrong times
  • Condo - Underwater: Fixed being buoyant after using the airlocks, now you'll be put in the proper swimming state
  • Fixed keyboard focus being lost when performing a search or clearing the search. Now when you search it'll keep the keyboard focused on the search so you can quickly make changes to your last search. This is for all search bars in the game (inventory, workshop, stores, etc.)
  • Inventory: Fixed canvas URL stretching with long URLs on surface edit
  • Inventory: Fixed not being able to press C again to close tool weapon settings that were just enabled with C
  • Inventory: Fixed tool settings (when you use C) stopping your movement
  • Default canvas mesh is no longer off-center
  • All building block panels/walls no longer have their X/Y scales mixed up
  • Sectional couches no longer have their X/Y scales mixed up
  • Fixed certain sounds from the Wowozela not adhering to volume settings
  • Fixed Beach Lounger, Shopping Cart, Bar Table, and Basket collisions (and a few other items)
  • Fixed Soda Machine item not networking to other players properly
