Every great story has its quiet heroes. One of them in the tale of Argon was the little elf Toru.
He was the last keeper of the ancient ice magic in those lands. His kin had long since departed for warmer climes, considering their ancestors' craft obsolete. So he lived in an ice cave, completely alone, pouring all his unspent care into baking cookies for guests who never came.
And then one day, through the howling of a snowstorm, he saw a huge dog fighting off a pack of gloomy Snow Whisperers. The creatures of darkness had almost overcome him, and something had to be done. Then, for the first time in many years, not fear, but courage flared in the lonely elf's heart. He couldn't allow his only guest in years to be torn to pieces before his eyes! With a cry, Toru waved his hands, and a stream of magic erupted from his fingers. Then, two shining falcons of pure ice appeared out of thin air. They swooped down on the Whisperers, sending them fleeing.
Running up to the exhausted dog, the elf looked into his intelligent eyes and asked, "Do you need help?" Argon merely wagged his tail in gratitude, unable to utter a word. Then Toru led him to his cave, gave him hot tea, and fed him his best cookies. Then he packed his things and set off on the most important journey of his life—the search for the Diamond Snowflake.
