Public Pre-Alpha Playtest Now Open, New Gameplay Trailer

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

You can now get a taste of the actual game by applying to the playtest on the store page. There's about an hour's worth of pre-alpha gameplay. New participants will be granted access in batches and at an increasing rate. The participants are selected randomly from all the current applicants. A lot of the core gameplay exists in some form already (with less variety than in the final game of course): there's puzzles, enemies, items, some secrets and so on. If you want to chat about the playtest, or the game in general, you can do it on Steam Discussions or on my Discord.
What's next?
One of the pillars of the game is still missing though which I'm going to start working on next: RPG systems. The RPG elements will be slim, which I think suits this kind of game better than something with a huge number of stats and layers upon layers of meta, but I have a bunch of fun ideas I want to try out. If there's something you would like to or expect to see in a game like this leave a comment. Now is a great time to get some more ideas in the mix!
Can I stream the pre-alpha or post videos?
Yes, go ahead! There's a press kit if you need logos or the key art. Linking to the game's store page is appreciated if you post some content. I would love to hear about and spread the word too if you do some streams or video!

1982 Speech Synth for Robot Voices

I plugged an 80s voice synthesizer called SAM (Software Automatic Mouth) in the game! You have likely heard SAM before if you had an Atari ST, Apple II or Commodore 64 computer back in the days.

Robots can spot objects in the environment, react to getting damage or comment when their power is turned off or on. You can play with letter blocks and the robots will spell it out loud.

New puzzle mechanic & other recent developments

Hello folks! Development on Reconfigure continues full steam ahead. Here's some recent things I've implemented for the game.

Magnetic blocks now follow the movements of adjacent magnetic surfaces and blocks. Previously they would have just fallen off as the magnetic grating would slide up and away from them. This should be a good building block for lots of puzzles!

Robots can be turned off via a handy switch on their backs when they are stunned. Or they don't even have to be stunned if you manage to sneak behind them! It's essentially like a backstab with takesies-backsies. I have some ideas for expanding on this functionality like units that can turn disabled robots back on.

If you're curious how I create content for the game here's two behind the scenes videos:

This was a pretty big and diverse video dump. I'll do my best to post more frequently here too. If you don't want to miss anything you can of course subscribe to my Youtube channel or follow me on Bluesky or TikTok.
