V4.3

[p]What does price discrimination, more items and catching enemies off guard have in common? They’re all new features in Devoid V4.3. So dock your shuttle and join us as we get into the details.[/p][p][/p][p]THE MERCHANT [/p][p]When flying out in the space dungeon there is a chance you encounter a merchant ship. After docking, you'll find yourself in a shop where you can spend denarii on a selection of items from a shady individual. This was added to help balance out the luck factor of item drops in Devoid. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Also, the merchant has a way to price discriminate against you to maximize profits. We’ll leave figuring out how up to you. [/p][p][/p][p]AWARENESS SYSTEM [/p][p]Pilots and enemies can now be caught off guard from flanking attacks. A surprise attack deals double damage and can devastate the target on the receiving end. Below are a list of features that make up the new system:

  • [p]Entities that can see now have a cone of sight. If an attacker hits them while out of this cone, a surprise attack will be dealt. [/p][p][/p]
  • [p]Certain enemies can only detect heat such as the Saprobe. This makes pilots running a cold ship undetectable. 
    [/p]
  • [p]Intelligent enemies can communicate with their nearby allies about players' positions. Becoming undetectable is harder when facing a pack. [/p]
[p][/p][p] 3 NEW ITEMS IN THE SPACE DUNGEON [/p][p]A few items were added to make running a cold ship more desirable. [/p][p][/p][p]ACCELERATOR [/p][p]Increases projectile velocity. Can offset the slow speeds of cold projectiles. [/p][p][/p][p]ACCUMULATOR [/p][p]Makes projectile strength increase during flight. Cold projectiles dissipate slower. This item is ideal for long ranged attackers. 
[/p][p]SAPROBE LENSE[/p][p]Extends camera zoom and field of view. Pairs well with long ranged and stealth builds.[/p][p][/p][p]A BETTER CODEX[/p][p]The codex UI/UX has received a noticeable upgrade. Text orientation has been flipped to have more horizontal space allowing for smooth reading. We will continue to build this menu out as Devoid develops[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]WHATS NEXT?[/p][p]That's it for V4. We will now begin work on the next region. V4.2

[p]Hey Pilot, [/p][p]We released a new update today. It introduces a new temperature system, 9 more items, and adds polish to existing visuals. Let’s walk through the new additions:   [/p][p][/p][p]TEMPERATURE [/p][p]Everything in Devoid capable of interaction now has a temperature stat. While the addition may seem simple, this system runs very deep. A ton of things in the game can influence or be influenced by temperature. Weapons overheating, snow storms, and item usage to name a few. And that's just the surface level stuff. It goes deeper. Bullets inherit your ship's temp. Flares fail against hot targets, heat-seekers punish overheating and get even deadlier in cold zones. I could go on and on. Temperature leads to some fantastic gameplay scenarios. We look forward to expanding on it for V5. [/p][p][/p][p]9 NEW ITEMS FOR THE SPACE DUNGEON[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]OVERCLOCKED CPU[/p][p]Grants an aggressive increase in fire rate, but consumes significantly more energy, which overheats your hull. [/p][p][/p][p]UNDERCLOCKED CPU[/p][p]Cools you down. Which makes it a great stealth item to sneak past enemies who use thermal detectors. 
[/p][p]SOLAR PANEL[/p][p]Harnesses the power of the sun to recharge batteries. No need for capacitors with this equipped. Expect to run very hot. [/p][p][/p][p]THERMAL FAN[/p][p]Used to convert heat into cold air. Great for cooling down a hot shuttle. The hotter your shuttle, the more effective it gets. [/p][p][/p][p]CRYO PUMP[/p][p]This attachment circulates cold liquid by projectiles leaving your shuttle. That way you can have cold bullets, and a hot ship.[/p][p][/p][p]THERMAL FILTER[/p][p]This filter recycles hot air from the shuttle's exhaust to run hot air past bullets leaving a shuttle’s weapon chamber. This makes it so you can run a cold ship, with hot projectiles. [/p][p][/p][p]VAMPIRIC SURGE[/p][p]When used this mechanism will siphon energy from nearby targets, replenishing your own battery. The surge steals energy at speeds determined by the temperature of the 2 targets in an energy chain. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]JUMPER CABLES[/p][p]A digital set of cables that transmits signals out to nearby targets. When used it will shock targets in range back to full energy levels. This includes enemies. So be careful. [/p][p][/p][p]BLOATED BATTERY[/p][p]Ships that are overheating will deal a lot more damage when they have this equipped. The Bloated Battery was influenced by our community. [/p][p]ITEM STACKING[/p][p]Added by accident. Kept for the chaos. After equipping 2 overclocked CPU’s we realized our fire rate was absurd. Thankfully our abundant use of tradeoffs makes most items self balancing regardless if stacked or not. For example stacking overclocked CPU’s makes your fire rate rapid, but you’ll overheat in like 2 seconds.  So only do this if you can take the heat. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]NEW SETTINGS[/p][p]Keyboard Co-Op[/p][p]Brightness[/p][p]HUD Scaling [/p][p][/p][p]WHATS NEXT?[/p][p]These additions just about wrap up V4. V4.1

[p]We just dropped a small update. But don’t let its size fool you, this packs a punch. V4.1 adds new gameplay mechanics, quality of life features, and improves performance. Let’s walk through the new additions: [/p][p][/p][p]The Shotgun[/p][p]Devoid needed a weapon that could handle close quarters combat well. So we added this feisty gun: [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Jankless Inventory[/p][p]The inventory has had a mechanical overhaul. Instead of requiring you to be focused on the center slot to fire your weapon, we removed it, and installed a traditional equip input system used by many games. This change also adds another slot. Increasing your capacity from 6 to 7. Nice. This change was heavily influenced by the community, so if you want to tag along with development, dock your shuttle here at the official devoid discord. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Pirate Wager is Back[/p][p]In Devoid V4 the pirate wager was not present (mainly due to a massive code refactor which left it broken). But it is back. When you run out of energy there will be a small chance for pirates to swoop in and offer up the deal of a lifetime. Literally. The maximum times it can happen per run is once.[/p][p][/p][p]Energy Transfer[/p][p]This elegant mechanic changes the co-op dynamic in a big way. Now, when a pilot is nearby, you can transfer your energy to them. This even lets you revive someone who has completely run out. When previously they would have just died. Overall, the energy transfer promotes team based coordination. It's really like you're sharing one big pool of energy between the squad. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Input Bindings[/p][p]You can now bind inputs however you would like for both gamepad and keyboard. So if you have a preferred gaming setup you can tailor your ships flight controls to suit your input needs. [/p][p]
[/p][p]What's next?[/p][p]We will be working to improve performance (we did some things to help in V4.1) but would like to continue our efforts. Additionally we have a passive item system working under the hood now. So expect more items in the next update. DEVOID V4 - OUT NOW

[p]V4 IS OUT[/p][p]After refactoring half the code base, we present to you V4. It’s a beast of an update. Making V3 look trivial. Let's walk through the major additions.[/p][p][/p][p]CO-OP[/p][p]4 pilots can now leave the dock together and make their way through the space dungeon. Getting to the next space station will require teamwork. Every additional player means less energy to go around. [/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]LV 2[/p][p]The gameplay loop has extended to 2 levels. Region 1 is complete. [/p][p][/p][p]NO RUNNING FROM THIS FIGHT[/p][p]If you make it to the end of level 2, firstly bravo, but there will be an unskippable boss fight in between you and the exit dock. Our advice? Uh. Win. New Item
[p]We added the Singularity Charge. Its a gravity based item that when deployed opens a mini black hole capable of slowing enemies down and grouping them together.
