Happy New Year 2024!

Time goes fast!

As we all dash forward into 2024, we want to wish all of you a wonderful New Year full of happiness, excitement and success in your personal and work/school life!

What's next?

It goes without saying that the past two or so years were a very quiet time for Destroyed Aperture in terms of both development and communication, so first and foremost we want to apologise for the absence of communication and news during this time.
Unfortunately, real life for many developers was very wavy, and as Destroyed Aperture is a hobby fan project, things like moving houses, being at university or changing jobs were keeping many of us back from dedicating the time required to actively work on Destroyed Aperture.

We can definitely say that the mod isn't cancelled, it was rather on an unannounced development hiatus. While a couple of minor things were still being done, such as map polishments and minor tweaks in terms of level design, most areas of development were not moving forward as we would've liked them to.

Going into 2024, the plan is to dive back into it and continue at the best possible pace.

What's missing?

While most of the work on the puzzles and maps is complete, there are still a lot of things to finish story-wise.

As many of you know, the mod's story went through a huge change back when Plan B was done. That means the most important major thing still in progress, which is also currently the biggest roadblock, is finalizing the last bits of the mod's story and backstory. After that comes the script and voice lines, which are partly written but may also need to undergo some changes. Some story-related maps and map areas are waiting to be drafted and designed as soon as the story gets wrapped up. The rest of the things that need work are the soundtrack and some custom game assets.

Thank you!

Lastly, thank you all for being patient and supportive, we really do appreciate it.
Happy New Year!

One last thing...

If you made it all the way here, there is one more thing - a sneak peek of something that you may get a glimpse of soon... Stay tuned!

Happy Birthday, Portal 2!

Hello, everyone!

It's crazy to think that, as of today, Portal 2 has been released 10 years ago, it doesn't even feel like it's been that long, last week on the 12th of April it was also exactly 6 years ago since Destroyed Aperture has begun development, time really flies!

Now it's time that we share some little news about Destroyed Aperture!

  • Development Update

The past few months have been dedicated to further developing and polishing our story, dialogue script, levels and most importantly, working on something that's secret.

Admittedly, progress has been a little slower due to personal commitments and the ongoing situation. We feel it was better to slow down a bit rather than to work under pressure, but as things have started to ease up, we've been making some good progress, stuff is now coming along well behind the scenes!

Are you wondering what the "something that's secret" is?
Then stay tuned for our next announcement, we will have something exciting to show! šŸ‘€

  • New Team Members

We'd like to give a warm welcome to our 3 new team members that have recently joined the Destroyed Aperture crew! šŸ‘‹

    •
TheDapperPenguin - SFM Animator
TheDapperPenguin has joined the team at the end of last year, you may get a little glimpse of his work from the header image or the thumbnail image background of this announcement, and you may also get to see some more soon!

    •
SubjectN - 3D Generalist
SubjectN has joined the team 2 weeks ago and has since then started working on a few models and assets! Same as above, you may notice a glimpse of some of his work soon as well!

    •
Pontastic - Concept Artist
Pontastic has also joined the team 2 weeks ago and has started working on concept art for something that shall not be disclosed yet!

They've been doing an incredible job so far, make sure to look at destroyedaperture.com and check out their portfolios and other work!
That's it, for now!

Thank you for taking the time to read through and keep your eyes peeled for the next announcement! šŸ‘€

Happy Birthday, Destroyed Aperture!
Hello everyone!
It is today that exactly 5 years ago Destroyed Aperture first began its development! It's a huge achievement for us to be working on an ambitious hobby project for 5 years without giving up and we're happy with where we are now.

We'd also like to thank you, the community, for the support you've all been showing us. We wouldn't have gotten this far without it.

Time for some development updates!

Development Update

We have some great news to share with all of you.
Dialogue Script
We've been working a lot on the dialogue script recently and it's now roughly half-way done! Another half to go!
It's exciting to be making progress on this part of the development.
After the script is finalized, it comes down to the voice actors recording all the dialogue to be put in the game and then comes translating it all.
Official Trailer
Planning for the official Destroyed Aperture trailer has slowly begun. We don't have any plans regarding the premiere date for it, but once it's ready, it'll be premiered over at our YouTube channel!
The trailer will also be used as the announcement for the planned release date for Destroyed Aperture. Until then, though, we're not revealing any plans regarding our planned release date.
Linux Update
After extensive testing, the Linux build of Destroyed Aperture is now functional! This means that, upon release, Destroyed Aperture should be available on Linux along with Windows.
All testing was done on Ubuntu 18.04, but should work across all distributions.
The Handheld Portal Device
After about 3 months of work, we're ready to present our modified Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device!

That's it!

What a long journey it has been so far!

Thank you for taking the time to read through!
As a side note; we hope everyone is safe from the worldwide pandemic going on, it's not an easy time to be living in. Stay safe!

šŸŽ‚šŸŽ‰ Happy Birthday, DA! šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‚
