Historical Skins: Leopard Evolution “Schweppermann”

[p]Commanders![/p][p]We have recently shown you the new camouflages we will have for you in the future but that’s not all the German-themed content we will have for you. We’ll also be introducing the first skin for the Leopard Evolution Main Battle Tank called “Schweppermann.”[/p][p][/p][p]Now, we promised we’d continue with the topic of knights and here it is. This skin paints the Leopard 2 Evolution in Bundeswehr colors, including its camouflage and unit insignia. Now, the skin is obviously not based on a specific one vehicle because Leopard Evolution is not (and likely never will be) used by the Bundeswehr. It basically was an export configuration that would later be superseded by Leopard Revolution. However, the skin’s specific elements are taken from existing vehicles. Let’s take a look at them one by one.[/p][p]The camouflage is, of course, the standard NATO one. It entered service around 1986 (it therefore predates unified Germany) and consists of three basic colors – green, black and brown. However, as you can see, the tank features additional white stripes across its hull and turret. These stripes (also known as the “Zebra” camouflage) were seen on several Leopard 2 tanks belonging to the 304th Tank Battalion (Panzerbataillon 304) during winter exercises at Hohenfels in the January of 1996. According to the Germans, this pattern obscures the tank silhouette fairly well at around 2500 meters.[/p][p][/p][p]The tank, however, does not belong to Panzerbataillon 304 – based on its insignia, it belongs to Panzerbataillon 33. This unit was using Leopard 2A4s (the Leopard Evolution is based on) in the early 1990s and was the first one to switch to the newer Leopard 2A5 model. Back then the unit belonged to the 1st Panzergrenadier Brigade (before its disbandment in 2007).[/p][p]The tactical number and the license plate also belong to a tank from the same unit, as does the unit emblem (a palm tree) on the left side of the turret and the knight image on its right side. This charging knight emblem was seen during the same exercise as the camouflage (Hohenfels, January 1996).[/p][p][/p][p]The only truly unhistorical element is the tank’s name – Schweppermann. The name matches the knight emblem nicely, we thought, as Seyfried Schweppermann was a legendary 13th and 14th century German knight who served Emperor Ludwig IV. He was known not only for his piety and bravery, but also for fighting well into his 60s. The barracks of Panzerbataillon 123 are named after him (we’ll have a decal belonging to the unit as well), bringing the reference to a full circle.[/p][p][/p][p]And that’s it, commanders. The skin will be available alongside the abovementioned camouflages and decals in October. We hope you’ll like it and, as always:[/p][p]See you on the battlefield![/p]

It featured extremely advanced armor, making it highly resistant to hits while keeping its weight low. The design was truly revolutionary for the late 1980s, but, like with many other Soviet projects of the era, it was discontinued due to the lack of funding. You can learn more about it in a dedicated article.[/p][p][/p][p]In Armored Warfare, the Object 640 “Black Eagle” is a Tier 10 Premium Main Battle Tank. It is a fast, agile and well-protected vehicle that plays in a typical Russian-style MBT fashion – ideal for players who want to take things up close and personal. This version of the tank does not feature any camouflage and is ready to be customized as you see fit.[/p][p]The Object 640 Tier 10 Premium MBT is available in our Web Shop via Loot Crates. Collect 100 blueprint pieces from these crates to obtain the vehicle.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p]
T-90M Proryv
[p][/p][p]The T-90M Proryv the most advanced Russian Main Battle Tank currently in service and the ultimate step in a long journey that began with the T-72. You can read more about it in our dedicated article.[/p][p][/p][p]In Armored Warfare, the T-90M Proryv is a Tier 10 Premium Main Battle Tank. With its solid firepower, excellent armor and decent mobility, this vehicle is suitable for all players, including fairly new ones. No matter what tactic you choose, the T-90M will not let you down as it is one of the most versatile MBTs in the entire game.[/p][p]The T-90M is available in our Web Shop via Loot Crates. Collect 100 blueprint pieces from these crates to obtain the vehicle.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p]
XM2001 Crusader
[p][/p][p]The XM2001 Crusader is an American attempt to replace the M109A6 Paladin in the 1990s with something more modern. The project was cancelled in 2002 due to its heavy weight. You can read more about it in our dedicated article.[/p][p][/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p]In Armored Warfare, the XM2001 Crusader is a Tier 10 Premium Self-Propelled Gun. The Crusader is an ideal vehicle for players who like to play aggressively. Dominate the battlefield with unrivalled firepower of a three-round 155mm magazine paired with guided HE rounds, and retreat under the cover of smoke thanks to your speed and agility. The Crusader is the ultimate SPG you've been dreaming of![/p][p]The Crusader is available in our Web Shop via Loot Crates. Collect 100 blueprint pieces from these crates to obtain the vehicle.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Boxer RIWP
[p][/p][p]The Boxer RIWP is a combination of a Tracked Boxer hull and a modular turret called RIWP. Both components are fairly new and haven’t been officially combined as of now but the Boxer platform can theoretically support this weapon system. You can read more about it in our dedicated article.[/p][p][/p][p]In Armored Warfare, the Boxer RIWP is a Tier 10 Premium AFV that’s unique for one reason – it offers five fairly distinctive weapon configurations along with a reliable autocannon capable of quickly dealing with lighter targets. It can also deploy Mechanized Infantry.[/p][p]This bundle is available in our Web Shop.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p]
ASCOD LT-105
[p][/p][p]If there was a word best describing the ASCOD platform, it would be the word “international”. It was developed by the Austrians and the Spanish, adopted by the British and available with a wide range of turrets. The joint project from 1988 eventually led to a number of vehicles using the ASCOD platform, the two best-known results of which are the Austrian Ulan IFV and the Spanish Pizarro IFV. The ASCOD LT-105 was a fire support variant of the platform, offered with pretty much any turret a customer would like, including those from B1 Centauro, M1128 MGS or even a South-African one by Denel. However, after two decades of not having to found any customers, the project was terminated and by 2015-2016, it was removed from all official offers. You can learn more about it in a dedicated article.[/p][p][/p][p]In Armored Warfare, the ASCOD LT-105 is a Tier 8 Premium Light Tank. It is fairly unique in one aspect. It is possible to select one of the two turrets: the manned Denel turret with the GT7 gun or the Low-Profile Turret by General Dynamics with the M68 gun, known from the M1128. The first turret has better kinetic shells but fires in a normal manner, while the latter has a clip-style autoloader, balanced by worse overall characteristics of the gun.[/p][p]This bundle is available in our Web Shop.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]We hope that you will enjoy the offer and, as always:[/p][p]See you on the battlefield![/p]

Historical Camouflages – German (Winter)

[p]Commanders![/p][p]The summer’s technically not over yet but the weather says different and with it behind us, it’s time to take a look at some of our upcoming autumn content. For a future German-themed event, we’ve prepared new camouflages and decals for you. Let’s take a look at them together.[/p][p][/p][p]The first of our winter camouflages is called German (134 Panzerbataillon). As its name suggests, this unusual (atypical) German camouflage was seen on a Leopard 1A1A2 belonging to the 134th Tank Battalion of the 13th Panzergrenadier Brigade during the Central Guardian exercise in the morning of January 21, 1985, in Ohmes near Kirtorf.[/p][p][/p][p]Central Guardian was a part of the wider REFORGER 85 exercise and the German goal of it was to train in poor weather conditions alongside the U.S. Army reinforcing NATO’s eastern flank. Indeed, it was a cold, snowy day in West Germany and the crew decided to paint their otherwise white-painted tank with irregular green lines to break its silhouette.[/p][p][/p][p]The second camouflage is considerably more modern. It’s called German (Gebirgsjägerbrigade 23) and was seen on a Bandvagn 206 carrier belonging to the German 23rd Mountain Infantry Brigade during the Grand North exercise in Norway in the February and March of 2024.[/p][p][/p][p]The exercise was a part of the Quadriga 24 Bundeswehr exercise, the goal of which was once again training relocation and combat in poor weather with some 12000 German soldiers taking part in it.[/p][p]In addition to these camouflages, there will be three decals available, all three belonging to Bundeswehr tanks.[/p][p]The Panzerbataillon 123 decal displays the knight helmet of Seyfried Schweppermann, a legendary German knight from the 14th century. It was seen during an exercise in 1990 on a Leopard 2 tank belonging to the 123rd Tank Battalion of the 12th Tank Brigade during an exercise.[/p][p][/p][p]You may know this emblem from the Leopard 2A4 Budeswehr skin that’s already available and belongs to the same unit. It was adopted by the unit in 1974 and it symbolizes the shock and awe power of armored, mobile troops – be it tanks today or knights in the Middle Ages. We’ll talk more about Seyfried Schweppermann in the future.[/p][p]The Panzerbataillon 121 decal also carries medieval symbolism with it. It displays a knight sword in a yellow triangle and was seen on a Leopard 2 tank belonging to the 121st Tank Battalion of the 12th Tank Brigade during the same exercise. The color yellow is common for all emblems of this tank brigade.[/p][p][/p][p]The sword is double-edged, which actually has a meaning – it’s meant to symbolize that the tanks and panzergrenadiers (mechanized infantry) are two blades of the same sword.[/p][p]And, last but not least, the Teutonic Knight decal showing a charging knight with a lance in the form of a machinegun barrel was seen relatively recently on a Leopard 2A6 tank belonging to the 203rd Tank Battalion.[/p][p][/p][p]And that’s it for now, but we’ll return to the topic of knights in the near future. We hope that you’ll enjoy the new assets and, as always:[/p][p]See you on the battlefield![/p]
