Historical Skins: Challenger 2 TES “Honey Badger”

Commanders!

Today we’d like to tell you more about one of the main prizes of the Europe’s Edge Battle Path – a skin for the Challenger 2 ATDU Tier 10 MBT called Challenger 2 TES “Honey Badger”.

The story of this skin begins with a very special Challenger 2 (license plate DT 22 AA) known as “Megatron” because, aside from the name, it bears also a symbol belonging to a well-known franchise called Transformers. This individual tank is nothing short of a legend of the British tank forces and received its name because it, simply put, transforms – after its long service, it went to a unit called Armoured Trials and Development Unit (ATDU) stationed in Bovington. This unit is tasked with developing and testing new equipment for the Challenger 2 MBT.

The tank was assigned to ATDU likely in 2008-2009 but has only been shown to the public in 2013. It has gradually been improved ever since. The tested components included:
 • New hydraulic suspension
 • 1500hp MTU MT 883 engine
 • Several different armor packages (including an improved TES version)
 • New APFSDS and advanced HESH (PISH ammunition)

In 2016, the tank was used to test a camouflage kit called Barracuda Mobile Camouflage System (MCS) by Saab. This kit, available for multiple tanks, not only helps hiding the silhouette of the vehicle visually, but also reduces its thermal, radar and ultraviolet footprint – an important advantage to have on today’s battlefield.

And this is what we have with this skin. But why change the name to Honey Badger?

Aside from the obvious (the name and symbol are copyrighted), we thought it would be neat to allude to the vehicle’s pre-ATDU history. You see, this particular Challenger 2 also participated in the battle of Basra in Iraq in 2003 (the battle would come infamous for the first Challenger 2 combat loss during a friendly fire incident).

Several years later, in 2007, rumors started to circulate in Basra amongst the local populace that the British started releasing giant man-eating honey badgers into the area to terrorize the Iraqi citizens as well as planting serpent eggs in the Shatt al Arab river. The outrageous story forced the British military to officially denounce it:

We've been accused of releasing reptile eggs into the Shatt al Arab waterway and then releasing badgers. This flies in the face of what we're trying to do here which is to establish a secure environment.
 • Major Mike Shearer, British military spokesman

The spokesman then proceeded to explain how the word “badger” was a call-sign of one of the soldiers from 2 Royal Tank Regiment, a tradition since the 1930s.

Long story short, we decided to name our own Challenger 2 skin “Honey Badger” in honor of the fictional ferocious, man-eating honey badgers out there, prowling the streets of Basra at night.

We hope you’ll enjoy the skin and, as always:

See you on the battlefield!

 • Armata 152 Tier 10 Premium Main Battle Tank
 • Type 96B Tier 8 Premium Main Battle Tank
 • T-72B3 Tier 8 Premium Main Battle Tank
 • M1A1 Storm Tier 7 Premium Main Battle Tank
 • MBT-70 Tier 6 Premium Main Battle Tank
 • Pile of Gold Loot Crate
Between March 21 and 28, 2024, the following items will be available:
ZTZ-20
The ZTZ-20 is a fictional Chinese Main Battle Tank for the 21st century. It combines western influences with some ideas taken from the T-14 Armata. You can read about its (real and fictional) history in our dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the ZTZ-20 is a Tier 10 Premium Main Battle Tank. On its own, it’s a beast of a machine and one of the most powerful vehicles in the game, featuring both a powerful gun and thick armor. It does have a special feature though – its missiles can cover a wide area with burning White Phosphorus that reduces enemy vehicle camouflage and deals damage to anyone entering the zone.

The ZTZ-20 MBT is available in our Web Shop via Loot Crates. Collect 100 blueprint pieces from these crates to obtain the vehicle.
Armata 152
The Armata 152 is a version of the T-14 Armata, armed with larger cannon. One of the upgrades considered for the T-14 Armata was the increase of its caliber to 152mm in order to absolutely, positively destroy anything with the first shot. The 2A83 smoothbore is a behemoth of a gun, designed in the last days of the Soviet empire for the next generation of super-tanks. It’s massive, heavy and quite costly to produce, but, most importantly, it was never truly needed to deal with the western MBTs since the standard 125mm guns were (and still are) up to the task. That is why it never found its way on any Soviet MBT with even the standard T-14 Armata being armed with an improved 125mm cannon. You can, however, experience its awesome firepower in Armored Warfare! Learn more about it in a dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the T-14 Armata 152 is a Tier 10 Premium Main Battle Tank. While not firing as fast as its 125mm counterpart, the 152mm rounds do enormous damage, often eliminating weaker opponents with a single shot. And then there’s the platform itself – the Armata, the most modern Main Battle Tank in the world. Earn it and use it to dominate!

The Armata 152 Tier 10 Premium MBT is available in our Web Shop via Loot Crates. Collect 100 blueprint pieces from these crates to obtain the vehicle.
Type 96B
The Type 96B MBT, as its name suggests, is an evolution of the Type 96A, featuring such elements as an upgraded fire control system and a much more powerful engine, resulting in considerably better mobility and speed. Unlike the Type 96A, however, the Type 96B is a prototype, designed for the Chinese military team to use during the annual Tank Biathlon event in Russia. In 2017, the Chinese team won the second place, being defeated only by Russia. You can learn more about its history in our dedicated article!

In Armored Warfare, the Type 96B is a Tier 8 Premium Main Battle Tank. Gameplay-wise, it’s very agile and fast for its class and uses advanced ammunition, making it highly suitable for players who prefer mobility over armor protection, even though it can take a lot of punishment as well.

This bundle is available in our Web Shop.
T-72B3
The T-72B3 is the most modern Russian T-72 variant currently in service. It is a heavily upgraded version of the T-72B, featuring Kontakt-5 ERA kit and an improved Fire Control System. Together, these modifications allow the aging T-72 to serve well into the 21st century. You can learn more about its history in our dedicated article!

In Armored Warfare, the T-72B3 is a Tier 8 Premium Main Battle Tank. It continues the tradition of other Russian tanks. Its low silhouette, good mobility, powerful 125mm gun and its advanced ERA kit make it a formidable opponent. This version of the T-72B3 is offered without any camouflage.

This bundle is available in our Web Shop.
M1A1 Storm
In 1985, the Abrams was upgraded with, amongst other things, the 120mm M256 smoothbore cannon. Over 5000 M1A1 tanks were produced until 1992. This tank participated in Operation Desert Storm, which forged its legendary reputation.

In Armored Warfare, the M1A1 Storm is a Tier 7 Premium Main Battle Tank. The M1A1 Storm look was inspired by Operation Desert Storm, including a gorgeous camouflage net model. But, more importantly, this tank is equipped with a massive frontal dozer blade, adding extra armor and ramming damage to the long list of its advantages.

This bundle is available in our Web Shop.
MBT-70
Germany and the United States cooperated in the 1960s and 70s to create the ultimate Main Battle Tank to replace the aging Patton tank series in service. The MBT-70 prototype tank was the U.S. result of the development program. It was exceptionally well armed with a 152mm gun, capable of firing guided missiles and equipped with cutting edge technology, but high costs and endless delays in development led to the cancellation of this project and the subsequent adoption of a more reasonable design – the Abrams.

In Armored Warfare, the MBT-70 is a Tier 6 Premium Main Battle Tank. Several features make it quite unique – it has a large caliber gun that, while slow to reload, delivers tremendous damage with each shot. It can also fire devastating guided missiles and while its mobility levels aren’t the best, it can devastate its opponents with well-timed shots, relying on its armor to keep it alive while it reloads. And last but not least, this vehicle has a hydraulic suspension available, allowing it to tilt its hull to improve its gun depression and elevation.

This bundle is available in our Web Shop.
Pile of Gold
We also have the Pile of Gold Loot Crate for you. This Loot Crate contains copious amounts of Gold for you to win.

This Loot Crate includes:

Moving away from MY.GAMES Market

Commanders!

We’d like to announce that Armored Warfare is moving away from the MY.GAMES Market as a platform for distributing various goods and bundles for you to enjoy. This is a part of a wider modernization of the product and its services that we are working on in parallel with the actual game development.

All goods (including Premium vehicles, Battle Path items and other items) are now available in our Shop.

For those of you with some unredeemed items in the old Market inventory, we’d like to urge you to redeem them as soon as possible in order to avoid any issues that may lead to you missing out on earlier gifts. You may access the Market still by clicking on the Market button in the launcher.

At the same time, we’re hard at work improving the Shop service for you all and addressing the issues that make some payments difficult or impossible in some countries or via certain platforms (such as Steam or Epic Game Store).

We are excited to take these initial steps in making Armored Warfare a better game and service for you all. We hope you’ll accompany us on that journey.

See you on the battlefield!

Server Maintenance

On the 21st of March 2024, starting from 8:00 CET, the server will not be available for 2 hours due to a planned server maintenance.

Please note that the maintenance can be extended beyond the abovementioned timeframe. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Offer: AbramsX

Commanders!

Today we’ve prepared the following items for you:
 • AbramsX Tier 10 Premium Main Battle Tank
 • Griffin 120mm Tier 8 Premium Light Tank
 • Bradley AAWS-H Tier 8 Premium Tank Destroyer
 • Stryker ADATS Tier 9 Premium Tank Destroyer
 • Exile Battle Coins
Between March 14 and March 21, 2024, the following items will be available:
AbramsX
AbramsX is an advanced technology demonstrator. It was built as a private venture by General Dynamics Land Systems and unveiled in 2022 to show what the future of the Abrams MBT could look like. It is considerably lighter than a fully upgraded Abrams while retaining its protection levels and firepower thanks to its cutting edge systems. You can read more about it in our dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the AbramsX is a Tier 10 Premium Main Battle Tank. While still maintaining the basic Abrams line features such as a 120mm gun, it is considerably lighter and less armored. On the other hand it is also faster, more agile, stealthier, and features a 30mm autocannon that can reduce most light vehicles to a pile of scrap in seconds thanks to its new ammunition. As a result, this tank can dish out a lot of damage but requires careful and skilled gameplay.

The AbramsX Tier 10 Premium MBT is available in our Web Shop via Loot Crates. Collect 100 blueprint pieces from these crates to obtain the vehicle.
Griffin 120mm
The Armored Warfare version of the Griffin Light Tank is based on an early 2016 tech demonstrator, intended to show the U.S. military during the AUSA 2016 conference that General Dynamics meant business. It was built as a private venture; effectively a scaled-up example of General Dynamics was capable of providing when it came to highly mobile vehicles with a lot of firepower for the U.S. airborne forces. The U.S. Army was impressed and the design has since evolved into what is generally referred to as the MPF Light Tank. You can read more about this vehicle in our dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the Griffin 120mm is a Tier 8 Premium Light Tank and a powerful, fast machine, armed not only with its 120mm cannon, but also with special ammunition types, making it deadly at any distance. Few Tier 9 vehicles can match its sheer ferocity on the battlefield.

This bundle is available in our Web Shop.
Bradley AAWS-H
The Bradley AAWS-H Tank Destroyer was an attempt by Loral Vought to mount four kinetic guided missiles on an extendable arm while using the Bradley IFV chassis as a platform. Kinetic missiles were cutting edge tech back in the 1980s – unlike standard ATGMs, they destroyed the target by their kinetic energy instead of a HEAT warhead, accelerating to several times the speed of sound. There was little to no defense against them, although they did have some drawbacks, which was why they were never adopted in real life. You can read more about the vehicle in our dedicated article.

In Armored Warfare, the Bradley AAWS-H is a Tier 8 Premium Tank Destroyer. It’s an ATGM-based TD, carrying special kinetic missiles that actually become more effective with increasing distance to your target. It is the embodiment of a long-range missile carrier and is perfect for players who prefer sniping to close combat.

This bundle is available in our Web Shop.
Stryker ADATS
ADATS stands for “Air Defense Anti-Tank System,” describing its purpose very well. The system is intended to engage both air and ground armored targets. It was developed in the 1980s by a Swiss company called Oerlikon-Contraves and was offered as an interesting hybrid that would be able to deal with both Soviet tanks and helicopters or attack planes. Unfortunately for it, it came too late – only Canada would actually accept it in service and the end of the Cold War meant the end to all attempts at its large-scale introduction. The ADATS missiles were quite large but, more importantly, extremely fast and were certain to be extremely destructive to any Soviet armored targets, even though this thankfully never had to be tested in real combat. The ADATS turret was offered for a wide variety of platforms and was actively installed on a vehicle that is kind of like a cousin to the Stryker, the Canadian LAV-III. In this configuration, the vehicle was called MMEV.

In Armored Warfare, Stryker ADATS is a Tier 9 Premium Tank Destroyer. It is a wheeled vehicle armed with two weapon systems – powerful long-range guided missiles and short-range unguided rockets, offering it some survivability in short range combat as well as the ability to deal tremendous damage if left to its devices.

This bundle is available in our Web Shop.
