Starbase - Progress Notes Week 39 (2020)

Hello everyone! Here are the progress notes of week 39 - hope you enjoy!

[h3]Design[/h3] Features
  • Player head health has been increased, players are now able to die from headshots
  • Repair Job gameplay improvements have been worked on
  • Mining Job gameplay rework has been finished, mostly to accommodate new tutorial features
  • Armor update design and related math have been finished
  • Asteroid belt design and material configurations have been started for higher progression tiers
User Interface
  • UI and walkthrough features for the Repair Job tutorial have been worked on
  • Improvements have been made to the Demolition Job tutorial experience
  • Quest Tool UI has been reworked to work better with the current tutorial quest implementation
  • New tutorial phases have been added to Mining Job and Repair Job
Stations
  • Mining job hall has been updated with new workstation layout and structural changes.
  • Player spaceship shop updated:
    • All player spaceship shops' Hangar showrooms now have one large and one very large showcase areas. Mediums have been removed.
    • Due to the Hangar showroom update, spaceships "201 Bruiser" and "Nate" have been temporarily removed.
    • The following spaceships have been relocated: "Buffalo", "Vidar", Akimbo 1", "Racer"
  • Okim's Magnus has been removed
  • Kenetor's Buffalo, which had disappeared from Rando Spaceship shop due to LOD issues, has now been fixed
  • Missing Refill & Recharge slots have been placed back into Proia station
  • Two Mass Transit stops have been removed from Starting station due to them blocking the walkways of the updated station layout
Spaceships / Spaceship Designer
  • Transparency of windows and glasses in Spaceship Designer has been changed to make them a bit more visible


[h3]Code[/h3] Gameplay
  • Work on station building continues, auto-building has been optimized
  • Work on Repair Job continues, spawning issue has been fixed and repair checks have been added
  • Ship frame integrity calculation has been reworked
  • Frame integrity display was improved in Spaceship Designer
  • Broken thruster attachments (mainly nozzles) should no longer block their thrusters
  • A short bolt may now sometimes be placed when a longer one would be invalid only due to a gap between the components it reaches
User Interface
  • Chat was updated to unhide a channel when sending message to it
Audio
  • A fix was made for flyby audio not triggering with fast projectiles
Spaceship Designer
  • Switching to edit mode while editing a YOLOL chip in test mode should no longer lock up controls
  • Editing YOLOL scripts in Spaceship Designer should no longer lock controls
  • Unsaved changes are now prompted when exiting the game from the menu or using ALT+F4
[h3]Art[/h3] Animations and Emotes
  • Work on explosive drill animations continues
  • Work on remote explosive animations continues
  • 1st person versions of select emotes are in the making
  • New ADS poses made for rifle and pistol (3rd person)
  • Unarmed rummage animation polished (3rd person)
Stations / Lot Designer
  • Marketplace's legacy asset replacement is underway
  • Holograms that indicate which shop monitors sell weapons and which ammunition were added to Ares weapon shop in Marketplace
  • The colors of Asteroid Collection buildings were changed
Weapons
  • Hit spot for Tractor, Cargo Lock and Rangefinder Beams have been fixed to be more persistent
  • Mining Laser VFX updated (both Hit and Shoot fx)
    • A lot stronger and also more in line with other laser based weapons/tool tech
    • Also resolved some bugs related to a delay on the hit fx themselves
Other
  • Large ice asteroid tests in the new belt are underway
  • Asset icons were added for the following categories: Attachments, Beams, Decorative Plates, Cargo,
  • Controls, Doors, Lamps, Navigation, Networking, YOLOL, Hardpoints, Ship Weapons
  • Inventory icons were created for Tools and Utilities

The Starbase Boltcrackers Fleet PVP tournament continues!

This video shows the battle between The Simulations and Venus Squadron. This battle includes a huge battleship with a large crew not just manning turrets and using rocket launchers, but also repairing the ship while the battle is ongoing.

Hello everyone! Here are the progress notes of week 38 - hope you enjoy!

[h3]Design[/h3] Features
  • Infantry combat changes
    • Damage reduction done to torso from other body parts has been reduced to 30% (originally 70%)
    • A headshot multiplier of 1.2x damage has been added
    • Antigel damage has been decreased from 40 to 30
    • Antigel hipfire accuracy has been decreased a bit
  • Following weapons have been re-tuned:
    • Long Rifle
    • Rail Gun
    • Repeater Pistol
  • Ore distribution in the new belt has been fixed: ores are now more locally distributed and Valkite can now be found from the belt
  • New power consumption design for the Ore Collector has been designed, players will be able to adjust the collecting speed
  • Durability system improvements are in the works
  • Design for alloy support in Spaceship Designer material selector is in the works
  • Armor system is being reworked: armor stat system is being completely redesigned
Stations
  • Ship Design Workshops' work areas have been made larger
  • Refuel slots have been added to Starting and Proia stations
  • Fixer's Coyote has been relocated from Rando 2 to Okim Industries 1
  • Greatmatenate's 201 Bruiser has been removed from Rando 2, as it's already in Okim Industries 1
  • New player spaceships added: Merino; Vigo; Port Authority Shuttle; Ironwing; Estoc; The Sky walker and Sparrow IV
Spaceships / Spaceship Designer
  • Global/Local Transform toggle button has been added (Top toolbar)
  • Show spaceship orientation -button has been added (Top toolbar): shows the orientation of the spaceship when it is spawned from a terminal


[h3]Code[/h3] Gameplay
  • The frame integrity durability view was adjusted to better display the stress of each part
  • Two bugs mostly related to updating thruster blocked-ness were fixed
  • Weld objects which previously appeared as "localization missing" are now hidden in Ship Designer's scene view window
  • A settings option for using weapons while sitting was made, allowing all actions with a weapon equipped while sitting
  • Station building is being worked on
  • Auction House is being worked on
User Interface
  • Item collections were set to have calculated material information as well
  • Quickbar was set to try and find new similar items from player inventory if the original bound item has been removed
  • Company Job menu is being worked on
  • Tutorial is being worked on
Audio
  • Chat window sounds were updated
Spaceship Designer
  • Buttons for scene orientation and transform mode were added
  • Material tool tooltips in Spaceship Designer were adjusted to match inventory ones
[h3]Art[/h3] Animations and Emotes
  • Work on remote explosive animation continues
  • Work on explosive drill animation continues
  • Rummage animation was made for remote explosive (3rd person)
  • Rummage animation was made for unarmed prone (3rd person)
Stations / Lot Designer
  • Legacy level art assets have been removed and replaced with proper ones in various station scenes.
  • Various LOD updates based on the legacy asset removal.
  • Additional level art added to Demolition job hall
  • Minor color issues were fixed on various maps
Armor
  • Strix armorset texture polishing is in progress
Other
  • Tests for large ice/snow asteroids in the new asteroid belt is underway
  • Asset icons for generator assets, thrusters and furnace parts have been created.
  • Asset icons for the devices in the lamps, navigation, networking, YOLOL and hardpoint categories have been created.

[h3]Design[/h3] Features
  • Following weapons have been re-tuned:
    • Antigel Rifle
    • Battle Rifle
    • Gauss Rifle
    • Laser Rifle
    • Revolver
    • Pistol
    • Shotgun
  • Weapon damages have been updated across the board
  • First version of the Repair Job design has been completed
  • Ore Collector and Mining Laser power consumption configurations have been fixed
  • First sets of MaterialSet configurations have been added for new asteroid belt tech
  • Damage and armor system math for upcoming updates have been worked on
  • Economy design for Auction House, cargo crates and radiation are in the works
  • Blueprint projector design iteration has been worked on
  • Blueprint chip design is the works, intended to store blueprints in a physically transportable medium
  • Design for a small self-contained 3D printer device is underway
  • Design for explosive drill tool is underway
User Interface
  • Design for tutorial features is in the works
  • Work on the ship info page continues, changes have been made to how the info is categorized and displayed
Stations
  • Beam structure of a few grid slots have been made identical with other grid slots
    • Placeholder grid slots with the faulty beam structure have been replaced with empty ones
  • Empire and Kingdom outpost grid slots have been updated due to legacy asset removals
  • Refuel grid slot has been made; LODs are in progress
Spaceships / Spaceship Designer
  • Overlapping levers have been fixed in premade ships: Serf, Ocelot, Urchin, Nautilus Cargo, Ocelot, Romulus, Mason, Hedron and Kodiak
  • Outdated YOLOL chip slot boxes have been replaced in premade ships: Nautilus Cargo, Pioneer, Ocelot, Ithaca I, Ithaca IV, Romulus, Serf, Mason, Hedron, Peon and Kodiak
  • Spaceship Urchin: Frame bolting/welding in the ship has been updated as recent change from bolted frame to welded had caused movable chair not being able to move anymore as the moving structure was also welded to the main frame (chair can be moved again)
Other
  • Issue where cabling/piping didn't start from the aim sphere when the sphere had snapped into socket has been fixed, cabling/piping devices with deep sockets should now be easier
[h3]Code[/h3] Gameplay
  • Issue where fragmented objects produce overlaps where intact objects do not, has been fixed
  • Unconnected FCUs affecting torque deadzones has been fixed
  • The temporary implementation of Ore Cargo Crate masses not correctly applying material densities has been fixed
  • Detecting thrusters as functional for FCUs when missing required attachments (such as box thruster internals) has been fixed
  • Auction House is under development
  • Station building is under development
User Interface
  • Large backpack weapon slot has been fixed
  • Material calculation tooltip has been finished
  • A fix for a bug where rewards are not received after a host change in Demolition Job has been worked on
  • Repair Job is being worked on
  • The new tutorial system is under development
Spaceship Designer
  • Another fix has been made to MUUS getting stuck in an infinite overlap test loop
  • Ship LODs and spawning between editor and in-game was adjusted
[h3]Art[/h3] Animations and Emotes
  • Work on remote explosive animations continues
  • Work on explosive drill related animations started
  • New (mocapped) pickaxe hacking animations ready and in the game (both axe and hammer)
  • Carry and relaxed animations now work while flying
Stations / Lot Designer
  • Ore Storage towers' hologram LODs have been updated to use universal model and texture map.
  • Legacy assets have been removed and replaced with proper ones in Large and Wide hallway modules
  • Kingdom & Empire halls updated with their Lot Designer variants
Weapons & Armor
  • Explosive drill tool base paintjob masks have been made
  • Battalion armorset base paintjob masks have been made
  • Mounted Railgun visual effects for shooting and projectiles have been updated
Other
  • Tweaks and tests have been done in relation to new asteroid belt
  • Inventory icons for the assets in the control devices category have been finished
  • Inventory icons have been created for generator fuel chamber, coolant recharge rack and small fuel rod rack
  • Inventory icons for all outer plate and window assets have been finished
