Meet the Dyonai

Welcome back to Galacticare Wednesday

This week we have a new release of our species introduction videos (aka cultural sensitivity training) to show you, this time it's the Dyonai.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Conveniently this week's condition was the Dyonian Plague, which you can read about here.

Hope you've enjoyed this week's focus on the Dyonai, they play a massive part in Galacticare and we can't wait to see what people think about each species once the game is out there!

Don’t forget we publish a new deep-dive blog post once a month, and more weekly explorations (including daily Condition Research Journals) across our TikTok, Twitter, and Discord.

Mind The Gap! - Level 3 Show Off

Welcome to another Galacticare Wednesday!

This week we have another campaign level to show bits and pieces of, this time it's level 3 which, as you may have already guessed, is set in a train station.

Because why wouldn't you build a train station in the middle of a hospital

Soon after you've opened for business, special trains will come in offloading a bunch of event patients for you to treat. As someone who likes to get things done quickly, I make sure to click the prioritise button on each of those patients to send them home asap.

As the hospital starts receiving patients via the train system, they will flow through to one side of the hospital - this can make it quite congested depending on how you spread out your treatment rooms and facilities. However if you've decided to build a single diagnosis room on one side and the treatment rooms on the other you might find that patients end up having to travel over the middle bridge to get seen, which adds to their time spent waiting for treatment.

This is where teleporter pads really start to come in handy.

This level conveniently also happens to introduce Hypersleep Crust, the condition for this week's journals which you can read through here

And finally, here's what my train station/hospital ended up looking like!

We're super excited to let you run free in Galacticare and hopefully see some of your own hospital/train station creations.

Let us know what you think of Level 3 so far in our Discord!

The Customer Is Never Right

Meet your Hospital Rating System in Galacticare.

The Hospital Rating system is your route to learn about the many, many things you might be doing wrong well. It’ll drill down into various areas of your hospital, your finances, and the wellbeing of your staff and patients.

Some of these categories are fairly straightforward (eg: how many of your patients survive their tribulations treatment in your hospital?), and some are more complex (eg: how healthy are patients when they escape leave the hospital?).

The other categories include your throughput (how many patients are you treating?), the mood and needs of your staff and patients (is everyone happy?), individual species desires, and of course, your finances - which, depending on your world galactic view, may be the most important one!

There’s also a tab for the Species Desires that we covered in an earlier blog post. As a quick refresh, each species has two unique desires that need to be fulfilled to keep them happy. For example, the Dyonai really like seeing plant decorations, and even though they don’t eat or drink the Vizarj really like toilets to be spread out and easily accessible throughout the hospital - but what do they actually do in there?

Each of these tabs has a core stat:

- Success Rate core stat: % of patients that survive
- Health core stat: Average patient health at end of treatment
- Throughput core stat: Treatments completed in the past 10 minutes
- Desires core stat: % of species desires above the “good” threshold
- Patients core stat: Average patient mood
- Staff core stat: Average staff mood
- Finances core stat: Total revenue in the past 3 cycles

And most tabs also contain a bunch of additional measurements, information, and tips. These all contribute towards the core stat in their category - for example, the success rate tab will break down the various ways you can “fail” (...kill) a patient, and what you can do to avoid that.

All of your core stats then contribute to your overall hospital rating - which is helpfully summarised in the summary tab!

On this tab you can see a breakdown of common thoughts from your patients and staff. Perhaps there’s a lack of art? Or a few too many corpses on the ground? Whatever the problem, this gross invasion of privacy will let you know.

Lastly, there’s also a series of rewards available to unlock on each level as you improve the rating of your hospital. On level 2 (Burning Moon), you can unlock a delightful hologram of Leonard Moon performing his favourite dance moves.

And that's it for this week's Galacticare Wednesday!

Fingers crossed your patients give you the most glorious 5-star reviews for your services!

Surgery in the club - Welcome to Laser Surgery

Welcome back to Galacticare Wednesday!

This week we’re covering another treatment room, this time it’s Laser Surgery. This one is a personal favourite of mine for multiple reasons, one of them being that the room basically turns into a nightclub during surgery.

The sound design team at Zimmer Audio did an amazing job here with the SFX for this room:
Description
Laser Surgery is a surgical treatment where a doctor controls drones armed with mining lasers to perform intricate procedures.

The Laser Surgery table has a standard operating bed that seamlessly adjusts between vertical and horizontal positions. Concealed beneath the floor are two laser drones, hidden behind access ports they can use to fly in and out of.

A couple of the room theme items include a DJ turntable and speakers. While surgery is being performed you can see the room turn darker and the walls become audio visualisers with soundwaves and neon lights. A fun detail added to this room for when it breaks down, you might notice the walls actually break as well and fill the room with error codes.
Treatment Process
As treatment begins, the doctor positions themselves at the terminal and the patient is pulled onto the operating table. The doctor then interacts with the terminal, triggering the main prop to glow with neon edges and the emergence of the laser drones from their ports. The doctor skillfully pilots the drones to fire the right lasers in the right places. The main prop finally reverts to its initial appearance, and the drones return to their ports as the successfully cured patient exits the room.

Each treatment has different variations depending on the condition and the type of lasers the drone uses. A few of the different laser types include: Cutting Lasers, Healing/Stictching Lasers, Cooling/Heating Lasers & Destruction Beams.

That's all for the Laser Surgery introduction, there's always plenty more to learn about all the rooms and conditions in game so if you're a fan of lore then stay tuned.
