Super Sketch Bob News

The ReDoodle Update!

Greetings, Super Sketchers! I have good news and bad news. The good news is that after months of setbacks, aggravation, and one or two bruised pelvises (don't ask), Super Sketch Bob development is back on track!

I'm currently hard at work on World 4, but I wanted to push another MAJOR update first which I'm calling the Redoodle Update! The ReDoodle Update contains a TON of quality of life fixes and bug patches! Some of these include:
  • The new Modifiers menu which lets you tweak gameplay to your own style!
  • Improved physics!
  • Better menus!
  • Improved Time Trial mode!
  • Better animations!
  • Achievements that actually work!
  • Full controller support!
  • ...and much more!

Additionally, after MUCH hard work, the game as been migrated from the old Construct 2 runtime to the new Construct 3 runtime! Ever work on a game for so long that the engine becomes obsolete? I have!
With the release of the ReDoodle Update, I'm now over halfway done with the entire game (oh, yes I am!). Since I'm currently working on this project alone, I don't have an ETA for the next update, but it will contain the entirety of World 4: Monograph Mountains. It also shouldn't take AS long as this one did since a lot of this update was housekeeping, updating old code, fixing bugs, etc. Since a lot of that was dealt with here and now, there should be less of it to do moving forward since everything from hereon in is new design content.

Lastly, the release of macOS 11.2.2 better known as "Big Sur", we've finally been able to get around the issues we were having with Apple OS development and can now release the macOS version of Super Sketch Bob! Don't worry, if you already got the game, you don't have to get it again, but you can now play it on your macOS Steam device! You know, if you... have one.

I'll see you all on the other side of the Monograph Mountains update! From there, it's onto the frozen tundra of Scribble Snowlands and then... the game's finale! Until then, keep on sketching!

The Crayonberry Update

This has been a long time coming, alright! No, it's not the World 4 update just yet (still hard at work on content for that, though!). No, this update is to repair one of the biggest flaws in the game: dull collectibles.

I mean, what even are Scribbles anyway? Raw creative energy? BORING! Scribbles have been replaced with a delicious fruit found all over the sketchbook which are often traded as currency for awesome costumes. The delicious 64 flavors of Crayonberries can now be found in place of Scribbles.

Other than that, this update features major improvements to the user interface and menus and a TON of various bug fixes. Plus, some changes have been made to Bob's physics to make him faster and more BOUNCY!

This is also the first update to run in our engine's new runtime: Construct 3! What does that mean for you? Well, hopefully more stability, better load times, smoother performance, and not a ton of bugs introduced from moving into new standards. That's right, folks. Super Sketch Bob has been in development so long that we outlived an entire game engine runtime. Good thing we didn't design this in Flash as originally planned, right?

At any rate, work is still chugging along all by my lonesome here at The Cortex (the super secret headquarters of Wayward Thoughts Interactive located somewhere either in an archipelago in the South Pacific or somewhere in the San Fernando Valley). But Bob's big adventure is coming along nicely AND I've been brainstorming what's next down the pipe. Good things are happening, folks. Until then, I appreciate your patience.

What's Going On?

This is really upsetting to me, so I can imagine it will be more upsetting to my players. I don't want to keep paying players in the dark, so here's the sad reality. Without any support from a team, continued development is unfortunately impossible. I have been trying for the last year to make some semblance of progress by myself, but the engine is 8 years out of date, the bugs are mounting, and I am facing issues I am not capable of fixing on my own.

Why Is This Happening?

Due to insufficient support on my end, development of Super Sketch Bob is being suspended indefinitely. I sincerely apologize to my players. Please know that this decision was not made lightly or easily and that I am deeply upset about this turn of events. Super Sketch Bob was a labor of love from day 1 back in 2012 and I'm extremely regretful that it will likely never be complete. I sincerely hope to someday have the resources to complete this project, but it's too massive an undertaking for me to handle alone.

What if I want a refund?

If you want a refund, I completely understand. Please use the standard method of refund via Steam if possible and if not, reach out to me directly at [email protected] with proof of purchase, and I'll do my best to make it right.

Is there any chance the game will ever be completed?

There's always a chance, sure. But without the dedicated support of a development team, finishing the game by myself is extremely unlikely. Please feel free to enjoy what there is of it, though.

Will you be taking the game off Steam?

Not at this time, no, as there is still a small chance that the game will be completed at some point and a good portion of it (more than half) is still playable. However, no money made from the game will be withdrawn and refunds will be made available if requested.

I've learned a lot in the course of developing this project and sincerely hope I haven't upset or offended anyone with this announcement. Please understand that I feel absolutely terrible about this entire situation and wish to make things right with my players in any way I possibly can.

The Sketchy Shores Update!

Aloha, Super Sketchers! It's been a while, but World 3 is finally playable! The seaside beach world of Sketchy Shores is filled with angry crabs, helpful seagulls, and pirate treasure hidden beneath the waves! With six new costumes to find, 18 new Sketch Tokens, and a TON of new challenges, World 3 is the biggest update to the game yet!

Give it a go and remember to submit any bugs here: [email protected]

The Last Update of the Decade, Ever!

Wow, so it's been awhile, huh? I've been crazy busy adding a ton of new stuff to the game, including World 3 which is not ready just yet. BUT a bunch of new stuff is!

Just to name a few:
  • Added new Modifiers menu to change the game's difficulty.
  • Background work to make the game run more smoothly.
  • New Costume Crates!

More to come in the new year/decade. For now, I'm off to enjoy the holiday!
