Experimental Patch Notes - Alpha 1.5.28

Hello all,

We've released the 1.5.28 (Halloween Event | Quality of Life Update) on our experimental branch via steam. This build will be moved to the stable branch if no major issues are found by players and the Halloween events will officially begin! We’ll introduce the build on the stable branch alongside a little Halloween video showcasing another Halloween event which can be found in this build ;) You can find our patch notes below. Please report bugs and issues in game using the F1 menu.

How to get into experimental branch:
  1. Open Steam and go to your games library.
  2. Right click on STN and select "Properties"
  3. Navigate to the "Betas" tab and select "experimental" in the drop down menu.
  4. Close the properties window.


[h3]Experimental Patch Notes - Alpha 1.5.28 (Halloween Event | Quality of Life Update)[/h3]

Halloween
  • Trick or treat mechanic added.


Environment
  • 2 new fully working and interactive drive in movie theaters added.


Performance
  • Fixed potential crash issue being caused by the cricket vehicle wreck effect.


Lobby
  • Time now displays in 12 hour clock format instead of day/night.
  • Month now displays as abbreviated month instead of 1-12.
  • All search tabs now work: History, Favourites, Friends and Owned.
  • Passworded servers now work again.
  • Regions now display correctly.


SFX
  • Game music now enabled by default.


Inventory
  • Added all craftables section which allows for viewing all possible crafting recipes.
  • Removed the [Search] and [Recipe] buttons which were causing confusion. Searching for recipes that include an item can now be done by hovering over the items name while in the crafting page.
  • Added quick crafting which allows crafting items without clicking right through to the recipe page.
  • Added quick craft system which allows for saving/pinning craftables.
  • Hovering over items in the inventory now only changes to that that item in the description area on mouse idle. This allows the player to pass over items without it being aggravating.
  • Weapons can now be cleaned from the description of the weapon right next to the condition.
  • It’s now possible to clean a weapon that you don’t already have equipped by cleaning from the description area.
  • Removed crafting recipes for sharpening, added recipe for crafting sharpening stone and changed functionality for sharpening so that it works like cleaning kits. (Also the cleaning from the description)
  • Ammo area layout improved.
  • Can now search for appropriate attachments right from the weapons description making attachment system easier to understand overall.
  • Search fields in the inventory now have a clear button.
  • Sort button in the inventory now looks like a button.
  • Entire search bar now clickable in the inventory. Previously, only the left was clickable.
  • Added more individual item icons to make inventory navigation easier.
  • Improved item names and descriptions to make inventory navigation easier.


Fortifications
  • Fixes for fortifications being invisible.


SFX
  • Music is no longer turned off by default.

Alpha Devblog #21 - Alpha 1.6 Preview

Hello all,

The team is developing the 1.6 patch. We're also working on an additional 1.5 Halloween update which includes some spooky in-game halloween events ːsteamhappyː

[h3]Prison Island Rework and Prison Town (To Be Named By the Community)[/h3]
We've continued making progress with the prison rework. As mentioned in the last devblog, we've also added an entirely new town to the old prison island. We'd like task the community for some help in naming this town. We've reached out to the community in the past for help with naming the towns of Black Island and all the roads and shop names were coined by Kickstarter backers as part of their backer perks. This new town will replace the current prison island and the new prison island is attached via an overpass. The prison is called 'Black Ridge Prison' so keep that in mind. Leave your suggestions in a comment below. We will pick out a few favorites and have a vote to make the final decision. :)

[h3]Halloween Event - Trick or Treat (Coming Soon)[/h3]
Players will find that all exterior residential doors will now have a trick or treat knocker on them along with some spooky halloween decorations. Use the knocker to take your chances of spawning a zombie or a little treat :) You'll may also be rewarded with a film case - wonder if it can be used at the drive-in ;)

We'll be introducing to new points of interest on the island, the Baron Drive-Ins. You'll find one north of Sage Creek and one just north of Lake Baron. Check them out, maybe stick around for a flick if you've found one while trick or treating.

Alpha Devblog #20 - Alpha 1.6 Preview

[h3]Prison Island Rework[/h3]
Jos has continued development on the new prison island as well as the old. We'll be turning our old island into another small town and we'll have some screens and details on that in the next 1.6 preview blog. Below you'll see some shots of the new prison island including the draw bridge and foot bridge below it. The island isn't as large as the original but contains far more depth and detail. This detail extends underground to a sewer system, something we would like to extend to towns on the island. The prison is the largest POI in Survive the Nights so far. It features a complex maze of halls, offices and massive, multi-floor controllable cell block.

[h3]Halloween Update[/h3]
We'll be introducing another update before 1.6, a little quality of life and halloween update. It only makes sense. We've improved some of the menu system (shown in last weeks blog) and added quite a few more loot icons. This is ready for release so we'll likely push that along with a few more Quality of Life fixes into our 1.5 Halloween Update. This update will of course also feature our halloween event! Some of you might remember last year's Christmas event. This year, we've taken some time and had some fun developing a few features that will likely stick around for other holidays. We've implemented a holiday manager which will allow us to introduce holiday content without bothering you guys with an additional download.

Alpha Devblog #19 - Alpha 1.6 Preview

Hello all,

The team is currently developing the 1.6 patch. We're also working on the issues that have been found by the community in the initial 1.5 builds. We have just released our experimental hot fixes to our stable branch. This should solve some of the issues you guys have found with the 1.5 patch.

[h3]Patch Notes - Alpha v1.5.27 (Hot Fix) [/h3]
  • Fix for mental health affects being overly intense.
  • Fix for dying not always clearing up player from the database.
  • Fix for invisible fortifications
  • Fix for hint limiter causing black screen on startup
  • Mac build fix
  • Resolved issue which could cause servers to hang indefinitely.
  • Server restart times significantly reduced.
  • Dropped items should visible sooner.
  • Fixed exploitable locked doors.
  • Fixes for zombies respawning after being killed.
  • Optimisations for the enabling of world loot around the player.
  • Hit particles now working correctly again.
  • Crafting recipes fixed (Club)
  • Wooden log pickup weight glitch fixed.
  • Nail bomb particle fixed. No longer bright at night.


[h3]1.6 Patch Preview [/h3]
Inventory Changes (Coming in 1.6)
We've been listening to feedback and chatting with supporters on our forums. We've made quite a few changes to the inventory system. In the past couple of builds we've improved inventory background pictures, added icons and updated fonts. In 1.6 James has taken a bit of time to improve some quality of life issues with the inventory.

  • Hovering over items in the inventory now only changes an items description area on mouse idle, this will reduce the constant changing of the left inventory page and makes the experience much easier on the eyes.
  • Weapons can now be cleaned from the description (left side) page, you'll find the clean button right near the condition readout. This will also allow the player to clean weapons they don't have equipped.
  • We've removed the crafting recipes for sharpening in place we've added a sharpen option in the item description much like the cleaning option above for weapons. This has been requested for some time and it's a great suggestion.
  • Improved ammo area layout making it easier to read.
  • You can now search for appropriate attachments right from the weapons description area making the attachment system much easier to understand overall.
  • The sort button for the inventory now looks like an actual button.
  • The entire search bar is now clickable in the inventory. Previously only the left side was clickable.
  • We've introduced a 'Quick craft' option as per community request.
