Game Settings Explained

The graphics and audio in World of Warships are constantly being refined and polished.

Accordingly, the game’s customizable settings are also changing to reflect this. For example, we have recently updated the basic graphics setting options, so you can safely set a preset that suits your computer before you enter battle. Even though we recommend rolling with the settings automatically chosen by the client based on your system, we also encourage you to familiarize yourself with the relevant in-game menu that can help your tailor the sights and sounds of the game to your exact liking.

The settings menus are quite extensive, though, and it’s not always clear what every little option means. Read this article to find out! We're going to explain the meaning of some of the more enigmatic terms, as well as tell you about some useful settings for graphics and audio that you can use. You can find all the necessary information about control settings in the Training section on our website.

Graphics
Much of what you see on your screen while playing World of Warships can be changed in the settings menu:
  • While in Port, click on the gear in the upper-left corner of the screen and select Settings in the game menu.
  • During battle, you can press the Esc key and select Settings in the game menu.
General settings
Antialiasing is a technique used to eliminate the "jagged" effect that occurs at the edges of many separate objects that are displayed at the same time. Let's take a look at all three types:
  • MSAA: More pixels are processed to get better quality. This is a rather "heavy" setting that can dramatically affect game performance, so it needs to be used wisely. The 8x option will provide the best image quality, but it is also the most resource-intensive.
  • TXAA is a complex process that uses prior frames to produce a smoother image. This technique allows you to reduce crawling and flickering. The effect is especially visible for small details like forests on islands.
  • FXAA is a mature technology that does not lose its effectiveness. It is similar to MSAA, but more pixels are calculated only at the edges of 3D objects. It can even be used on computers with modest characteristics.

The AMD FSR 1.0* scaling technology upscales the image resolution from lower to higher resolution. In practice, it can be very useful when playing, for example, on a laptop. It helps you significantly reduce the load on your processor and video card, and there will be no noticeable visual difference on a small screen.

*This technology is not supported by all models of video cards.

Game browser hardware acceleration is enabled by default for all users and provides acceleration on any configuration. The option should be disabled only if the Armory or News is not displayed due to errors in the implementation of the video card driver.
Vertical synchronization is a classic setting used in the vast majority of PC games. It allows the video card to operate with less power and reduces its temperature and noise, as well as reduces power consumption.

Triple buffering increases the consumption of video memory, but allows you to smooth out small bumps due to different rendering times for successive frames.

Increase GUI contrast: Translucent backgrounds of UI elements are replaced with solid fills.

There are also several settings in the menu that can be useful for computers with modest characteristics:
  • Reduce GUI refresh rate: Enabling this feature makes icons react to movements in-game every two frames instead of every frame. This reduces the load on the processor when updating interface elements.
  • Animate small objects: Disabling this option simplifies the way non-essential details such as individual airplanes or secondary battery guns are represented.
  • Reduced fire and flooding effects: Enabling this option makes the visual effects associated with these statuses less spectacular.
Graphics settings
The World of Warships development team recommends using auto-configured settings. If you have not changed the settings for a long time, you should click on the Autoconfig button, which looks like a circular arrow.

The game has changed a lot over the past year, and this feature will help you choose the optimal image quality for the current state of World of Warships. In addition, you can select one of six options in the drop-down list of the Graphics Quality setting.

We believe that the available preset options are well-optimized and capable of satisfying even the most demanding users. If you decide to adjust the image yourself, remember—an incorrect assessment of your PC's resources can make the game uncomfortable to play and can even negatively affect your results in battle.
Audio
The audio in World of Warships is constantly being improved. Each Port has its own unique music theme written specifically for our game. The sound effects of the surrounding world, for their part, are becoming more detailed and realistic.

As in the case of graphics, you can also change the audio to suit your preferences. To do that, select the Audio tab in the game menu.
General settings
In battle, you can choose your preferred Music mode from four options:
  • Original: Classic tracks familiar to experienced players from the early days of the game.
  • Dynamic: The tracks adapt to the events taking place in battle.
  • Mixed: Before the start of the battle, the game randomly selects either the Dynamic or Original option.
  • War Drums: The adrenaline-pumping sound of percussion instruments.

Audio accounts for only a small fraction of the load on your PC's processor and RAM. Although it makes sense to limit the sound quality only with weak hardware, you still need to be careful using the Ultra quality setting.

Sound quality is tied to graphics quality, but not vice versa. If you select high graphics quality, the sound quality changes to the corresponding level automatically. If you select a different sound quality, the graphics quality remains unchanged.

If the audio is played through a laptop's built-in speakers, you will hardly notice the difference between High and Ultra sound quality.

Voiceover language allows you to select the language of all voiceovers that will work in the standard voiceover modification mode.

Voiceover modification allows you to select various options:
  • Standard: A Commander speaks the game language selected by the user in the Voiceover language section. You hear allied Commanders in your chosen language during the battle.
  • National: Voice messages in battle are played in the language corresponding to the ship's nation. If an allied ship pronounces a quick message, this message is heard by the player in the language corresponding to the nation of the allied ship.
  • National+: Works the same as National, with the exception that if a ship has a special Commander with a unique voiceover, that voice will take precedence over the ship's nation. You will hear both the unique voice of Commanders on your ships as well as those on allied ships.
  • The rest of the voiceover modifications correspond to any special Commanders with unique voiceovers that you have on your account. Choosing one of these Commanders will give their unique voiceover to all ships in the game, be they your own or allied. For example, if you have unique Commander Dasha Perova with her own unique voiceover, then you can select her here.
Sound preset
With this feature, you can adjust the sound balance, both with the help of the suggested modes and at your own discretion. You several presets at your disposal:
  • Standard: Default sound settings.
  • Cinematic: Sound effects are brought to the foreground; the sound is more vivid and saturated.
  • Simple: The volume of sound effects is reduced; additional sounds are disabled. This setting will help focus your attention on in-game notifications.
  • Night: The settings are optimized for playing at low and medium volumes, and at the same time, all effects and notifications are preserved.
  • Custom: Provides access to audio fine-tuning sliders that give you the ability to fine-tune individual groups of sounds.
Select the Custom option to be able to "move" the sliders yourself.

When enabled, Wide dynamic range gives you the ability to hear more fine details at a high volume level.

When enabled, Loudness compensation allows you to hear more individual effects at low volumes.

Radio communication effect changes the voice of your and other Commanders so the messages sound like radio transmissions.
Voice Chat
If you hear other players too loudly or, on the contrary, too quietly, change the position of the Chat volume slider.

If other players hear you too loudly or too quietly, adjust the Microphone sensitivity slider.

The transmission mode gives you the ability to configure at what action your words will be recorded and transmitted to other players. There are two options: Either by toggling it on with a single press on the V key or push-to-talk by holding the key for the duration of the recording.

Voice chat processing allows you to change the nature of the radio communication effect for the voice chat and voiceover. The level of the radio communication effect is adjusted in the Custom preset.

The Clydebank Dockyard: Construction of Atlântico

The building of Pan-American Tier VIII battleship Atlântico commences in Update 0.11.3.

The warship will slide down the ways of the British Clydebank Dockyard that saw IX Marlborough sail out not so long ago. In the beginning of the 20th century, there were no dockyards in South America, which is why many design and construction orders for the region were handled by British shipbuilding companies and others.

VIII Atlântico is armed with ten 381 mm main battery guns that are placed in five twin-gun turrets and fire only AP shells. Atlântico's primary feature is her powerful secondary battery guns with a long firing range—ten 127 mm guns and sixteen 234 mm guns with a normal firing range of 7.5 km. The secondary battery guns are accurate, but they're not that easy to use—due to an arcing trajectory, the shells travel slowly. It's harder to attack maneuverable targets with such secondary battery guns, but at the same time, you can efficiently fire at slower ships and over islands. The 127 mm guns have the same accuracy as artillery mounts of German battleships, while the 234 mm guns have similar accuracy to IX Georgia and German battlecruisers. While the ship is quite slow for a battleship of her tier, she has a sturdy deck, a citadel with solid armor, and decent overall armor protection against high-explosive shells.

Event Rules
• The construction process at the Dockyard comprises 22 phases.
  • These shipbuilding phases can be completed by progressing through Dockyard combat missions or by spending 1,750 Doubloons to pass through each phase.
  • If you want to complete shipbuilding phases at a discount, you can purchase Starter Packs—eight shipbuilding phases in exchange for 8,000 Doubloons and three shipbuilding phases in exchange for 3,900 Doubloons. However, these packs will only be available for purchase prior to the point in time when you complete three shipbuilding phases by finishing combat missions.
  • You can complete combat mission groups throughout the entire duration of Update 0.11.3 and during the first 3 weeks of Update 0.11.4. The Dockyard will remain available until the start of Update 0.11.5.
  • In total, you can progress through 19 out of 22 shipbuilding phases by completing Dockyard combat missions.
If you complete the construction of VIII Atlântico by spending Doubloons, make sure to keep progressing through the Dockyard combat missions—completing each phase will earn you 250 Steel.

Superships in the Tech Tree

Captains!

Superships have gone through several different stages of testing. They participated in the Grand Battle in Update 0.10.5, Ranked Battles during the Fifth Season, Co-op Battles from Update 0.10.10, and Random Battles from Update 0.11.0. These tests allowed us to collect the necessary information and prepare for an important event. In Update 0.11.3, superships are being introduced into the Tech Tree on a permanent basis.

Access to superships
Superships are placed in the Tech Tree just after Tier X ships. However, their arrival means much more than just the continuation of their respective branches. Superships have mechanics that are entirely new for our game and make a noticeable qualitative jump from Tier X ships. For this reason, we've opened access to them only for players who have researched or own at least three Tier X ships. This means that any players helming a supership will already have a certain level of experience in the game. To purchase a specific supership, you must also research the Tier X ship of the corresponding branch. It's not necessary to research superships.

The cost of purchasing superships depends on their type:
  • Super battleships—57 million Credits.
  • Super carriers—48 million Credits.
  • Super cruisers—47.5 million Credits.
  • Super destroyers—45 million Credits.
We would like to avoid an excessive increase in the popularity of battleships compared to other types, so their cost is significantly higher.

Superships economy
A very important aspect of adding superships to the Tech Tree is their battle economy—earnings per battle and service costs. Over the years of development, the in-game economy has accelerated significantly due to various bonuses and numerous economic signals. Earning Credits has become easier, even when playing the most expensive Tier X ships to service. This has significantly influenced their popularity.

In the case of superships, we decided to change our approach. This is done to curb their popularity in the matchmaker and give Tier X ships an economic advantage over superships.
  • Superships yield Credits at the level of Tier X ships.
  • The cost of servicing superships is 360,000 Credits.
  • Permanent camouflages for superships are purchased separately from the ships, just like for other researchable ships from the Tech Tree.
  • The permanent camouflage of superships does not reduce their service cost or increase their Credit earnings. However, it provides a larger XP bonus compared with permanent camouflages for Tier X ships.
  • Any permanent camouflages provided with rental superships on player accounts will be removed.

What else you need to know
• Superships do not interact with the Research Bureau and will not be sold after you reset a branch.
  • Tier IX and X ships will enter battles with superships with restrictions similar to the limits on the number of ships of different tiers and on the number of bottom-tier battles in Tier VIII–X battles. Single-tier battles involving only superships are also possible.
  • Superships are classified as “researchable” ships in the game. This means that Commanders must complete their retraining when they are assigned to superships.
In future updates, we plan to add a special building to the Naval Base. More details will be available on our website later.
Superships
Along with superships, new mechanics have been added to World of Warships:
  • Combat Instructions grant a temporary boost to the ships' characteristics in battle. You can activate the bonus by pressing the F key in the standard keyboard layout, but only after carrying out successful adjustment fire.
  • Alternative fire mode: A series of salvos where each turret automatically fires several shells with a short interval between salvos. After firing, the guns take a long time to reload. Depending on the ship, activating this mode can change the characteristics of guns or shells.
  • Tactical squadrons have a high maximum speed and are the main feature of super carriers. These aircraft can quickly cover substantial distances and carry out lightning-fast attacks against enemy ships. At the same time, they cannot slow down below their cruising speed, and their engine boost does not restore when they are airborne. Tactical squadrons consist of one attacking flight only, because they are best used as auxiliary weapons. Just like the squadrons of hybrid ships, they come with a ready timer that's triggered with the start of each battle, and they also require considerable preparation time.

Satsuma is a project based on X Yamato, and she continues the corresponding branch in the Tech Tree. She is armed with enhanced 510 mm main battery guns placed in four twin turrets. Combat Instructions reduce the maximum dispersion of her main battery shells by 35% and thus increase their accuracy.

[expand] [/expand]

Hannover follows X Preussen in the Tech Tree. She's a version of the H-42 project equipped with 483 mm guns in four twin turrets. The secondary battery guns are replaced with 128 mm dual-purpose artillery. Combat Instructions increase the secondary battery firing range by 12% and reduce the secondary battery reload time by 20%.

[expand] [/expand]

Condé follows X Henri IV in the Tech Tree. She's a large heavy cruiser armed with twelve 240 mm guns housed in quadruple turrets. The ship's air defenses comprise post-war dual-purpose guns and AA defense systems. Activating the alternative fire mode provides Condé with a temporary +25% bonus to HE shell penetration and reduces the maximum dispersion of her main battery shells by 40%. The interval between salvos is 1.5 s; the number of salvos in a series is 2; and the reload time is 50 s.

[expand] [/expand]

Annapolis is the further development of the Des Moines-class heavy cruiser and continuation of this same ship in the Tech Tree. The key differences compared to her prototype are her larger dimensions and increased firepower, the latter of which was achieved by equipping the ship with an additional main battery turret. In the alternative fire mode, the interval between salvos is 1 s, the number of salvos in a series is 3, and the reload time is 40 s.
[expand] [/expand]

Yamagiri continues the X Shimakaze branch. She's a fast destroyer equipped with dual-purpose main guns and powerful torpedo armament comprising three sextuple-tube torpedo launchers. Yamagiri's unique feature is her alternative torpedoes. In battle, you'll be able to use different types of torpedoes that differ in specific parameters—range, speed, and damage. Yamagiri also features an alternative fire mode where she fires three salvos at an interval of 1 s and with a reload time of 30 s.

[expand] [/expand]

Zorkiy follows X Delny in the Tech Tree. She's a project for a high-speed armored destroyer leader armed with dual-purpose guns and AA weaponry designed in the U.S.S.R. in the early 1950s drawing on experience gained during wartime. The alternative fire mode gives the ship a +50% bonus to armor penetration of HE shells. The interval between salvos is 1 s, the number of salvos in a series is 4, and the reload time is 40 s.
[expand] [/expand]

United States is the lead ship in a series of post-war aircraft carriers. She follows X Midway in the Tech Tree. The ship was laid down in 1949 but was never completed. She was recreated in the game as a fleet strike carrier with necessary alterations to the ship's layout design and equipment. In addition to standard squadrons, United States also has three tactical squadrons consisting of attack aircraft, torpedo bombers, and bombers. They are best suited for quick pinpoint attacks on single targets.
[expand] [/expand]

Eagle was laid down as one of the Audacious-class ships. She follows the carrier of the same name in the Tech Tree. The carrier was completed to a substantially altered project, and she later underwent extensive modernization that allowed her to carry and operate the most advanced naval aircraft of the 1950s, including jet aircraft. Eagle is equipped with standard and tactical jet squadrons.
