HELLDIVERS™ 2 News

Helldivers 2 PC players will have to link their Steam accounts to PSN just to play soon, and it's, er, not going down too well

Sony itself has just made a big announcement about Helldivers 2, and it's not going down too well. Basically, the "grace period" for PC players not having to link their Steam accounts to a PlayStation Network one in order to play is coming to an end soon - with security being cited as the reason why this is set to become mandatory.

This news came via an update on the game's Steam page, attributed to Sony Interactive Entertainment itself, rather than Helldivers developer Arrowhead. "Due to technical issues at the launch of Helldivers 2, we allowed the linking requirements for Steam accounts to a PlayStation Network account to be temporarily optional," it reads, "That grace period will now expire."

"Account linking plays a critical role in protecting our players and upholding the values of safety and security provided on PlayStation and PlayStation Studios games," Sony continues, "This is our main way to protect players from griefing and abuse by enabling the banning of players that engage in that type of behaviour. It also allows those players that have been banned the right to appeal."

HELLDIVERS™ 2 Account Linking Update

UPDATE 5/6/2024:

Helldivers fans -- we’ve heard your feedback on the Helldivers 2 account linking update. The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network account linking for new players and for current players beginning May 30, will not be moving forward.

We’re still learning what is best for PC players and your feedback has been invaluable. Thanks again for your continued support of Helldivers 2 and we’ll keep you updated on future plans.

Attention Helldivers,

Due to technical issues at the launch of HELLDIVERS™ 2, we allowed the linking requirements for Steam accounts to a PlayStation Network account to be temporarily optional. That grace period will now expire. See details below in this post.

Account linking plays a critical role in protecting our players and upholding the values of safety and security provided on PlayStation and PlayStation Studios games. This is our main way to protect players from griefing and abuse by enabling the banning of players that engage in that type of behaviour. It also allows those players that have been banned the right to appeal.

As such, as of May 6th, all new HELLDIVERS 2 players on Steam will be required to connect their Steam account to a PlayStation Network account. Current players on Steam will start to see the mandatory login from May 30th and will be required to have linked a Steam and PlayStation Network account by June 4th. PlayStation Network accounts are free and easy to set up using this link

We understand that while this may be an inconvenience to some of you, this step will help us to continue to build a community that you are all proud to be a part of.

Many thanks for your continued support of HELLDIVERS 2!

Helldivers 2's next premium warbond arrives next week with new weapons, armour and winter weather capes

Helldivers 2 oddly requires that I spend its in-game currency on items I don't want (capes, helmets, any emote other than the hug) just so I can gain access to the items I do (sniper rifles, SMGs, other weapons that ultimately turn out to be worse than what I already had).

I'm so far unconvinced by the need to pay real money to unlock a premium warbond, therefore. The trailer for the next premium warbond, coming May 9th, does contain glimpses of some weapons I'd like, however.

The next Helldivers 2 warbond is filled with frosty firepower

The next Helldivers 2 warbond has been revealed. The new battle pass track for the bombastic co-op game brings another round of upgrades to add to your loadout, and the weapons on show promise to be some real heavy hitters in the right hands. Along with those, the new pass includes a booster to deal with crowd control and a new grenade that can help you keep warm out on the coldest Helldivers 2 planets.

Freeze, Helldivers 2's next Warbond is dropping soon, and the new guns and gear in it look pretty cool

Guess what? Helldivers 2's next Warbond has just been revealed, and you'll probably be a big fan of it if you like getting into snowball fights or have ever fantasised about being in a battle on Star Wars' Hoth. Seriously, it's even called Polar Patriots.

Yup, following two patches this week, you're getting more Helldivers 2 things, because multiplayer video games are physically incapable of standing still. How does this Warbond follow-up last month's Democratic Detonation drop, you ask? Well, by making you look like you could survive living in a fridge.

As outlined in the PlayStation blog about it, as well as the trailer you can watch below, this new Warbond's called Polar Patriots, and it's set to drop on May 9.
