Helldivers 2 is getting a long-term fix to its online woes soon, but a quick patch has settled things for now

Arrowhead Game Studios released a quick patch to help with Helldiver 2's matchmaking issues yesterday, and has now said it's working on a long-term fix.

Helldivers 2 launched earlier this week, and while it's done so well as to overtake God of War as PlayStation's biggest PC launch, it's not come without some teething issues. Players were struggling with matchmaking in the few days since it launched, with some also criticising the game's PC optimisation, as well as its kernel-level anti-cheat software. Those last couple of issues are a bit harder to resolve, but over in the game's Discord, game director Mikael Eriksson has confirmed that the quick-fix patch for both PC and PS5 is now available in game, so you should be able to play it without as many problems now.

"The most important thing to highlight is that we've made additional improvements to matchmaking," explained Eriksson. "A full matchmaking solution is in the works but will take a few more days to test and deploy. Thanks for your patience as we work through the last details." There did seem to be further issues last night, but a message from chief operating office Maria Cornelius shared that "a rapid fix was prepared.

Hey everyone,

Okay, we have another build for PC. Since we launched, we've worked hard at solving some persistent crashes and bugs, especially the matchmaking issues you've likely seen and felt by now. In this new build, we've managed to improve the matchmaking success rate further, but unfortunately, it's not all the way there yet. The full solution might take additional days of work before it's fully functional. By the way, we have noticed that it works best if you join an active game by searching on planets rather than triggering Quickplay.

In this build, we've also addressed three other crashes. Please refer to the patch notes for more info on that. Additionally, Sagar had mentioned earlier that we hoped to send you a PlayStation patch today, but it's proving to take a little longer than expected.

Thank you for your patience. While we're getting this out as soon as we can, the thing that keeps us going is seeing all your awesome videos, stories, and reactions online. They're as good as Element-710 at fueling our brains over here!

Helldivers 2 overtakes God of War to become PlayStation's biggest PC launch

Helldivers 2 finally arrived this week after what felt like an eternity. The game launched yesterday across PC and PS5, and the launch has been pretty successful so far. In fact, it’s the biggest launch ever for a PlayStation-published game on PC.

Sony Interactive Entertainment, of course, created the mouthy label PlayStation PC to solidify its plans to more consistently bring more and more of its once PlayStation-exclusive titles to PC. These efforts started with Horizon Zero Dawn, and have continued since.

Helldivers 2 hotfix on the way to address crashes, matchmaking errors and "mixed" Steam reviews

Helldivers 2 launched earlier today and has been sat at the top of the Steam sales charts, with a healthy 60,000+ currently in-game. Alas, the co-op shooter also has a "Mixed" user review rating on the platform, thanks in part to optimisation and matchmaking issues.

Developers Arrowhead say they're working on a hotfix to address the issues as fast as possible.

Helldivers 2 has human game masters who tweak your co-op fights in real-time

Helldivers 2 pits co-op players against swarms of computer-controlled aliens and robots in the context of a vast, ongoing galactic war. There might be someone else in battles with the power to tip the scales, however: an omniscient game master, employed by developers Arrowhead, who can monitor the fight and drop in buffs and debuffs to change the flow of the fight.
