Helldivers 2's one year anniversary does see the Illuminate start gearing up for black hole bowling, but never fear: players have invented the Hellbomb trebuchet
As players had been expecting given how hard it was teased throughout last week, the first anniversary of Helldivers 2's release has seen Arrowhead unleash a big Illuminate campaign that's taking a lot of work to try and hold off.

Despite some very strong challengers in Balatro, Metaphor ReFantazio, UFO 50, and Zenless Zone Zero, Helldivers 2 was my ultimate game of the year for 2024. It's a beautiful, bombastic thing; a masterful reconstruction of one of my favorite co-op games in a whole-new perspective that gives it fresh life. While its first year featured somewhat of a reception rollercoaster, constant updates from developer Arrowhead and the arrival of the Illuminate have brought Helldivers 2 back in style, and you can grab it cheaper than it's ever been on Steam - but be quick about it.

It's been looking like something big and Illuminatey has been building in Helldivers 2's Galactic War for a little while now, even if there's been nothing to fight but the automatons. Well, if you weren't already worried about what that is, Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani's issued a warning that you might want to read.
UPDATE: Helldivers 2's next warbond is Servants of Freedom, and you may well need it given Meridia's terrifying Illuminatey stuff is seemingly ramping up
UPDATE (04/02/25, 2:00 PM GMT): Arrowhead has now officially revealed the Servants of Freedom warbond, which arrives on February 6.
