Meet BigBoyYogurtMan 🙌 Trailmakers Builder Showcase
Builder Showcase is back. The third edition stars BigBoyYogurtMan, a well known and respected Weekly Challange participant and one of the biggest Trailmakers experts. With more than 1,3K blueprints done and counting, we were so excited to have this talk with him. Enjoy!
Would you make a quick introduction to us? What’s your real name, age, where are you from, what do you do for a living?
Hi! My name is Maxim Harteveld, but most of you might know me by my online names BigBoyYogurtMan or KingofYogurt. I’m from the Netherlands, currently 17 years old and in school.
How did you first hear about Trailmakers? Why did you decide to jump in and start playing?
I’ve always been interested in building things. One day, when i was browsing on YouTube,
I stumbled upon a video by Scrapman (great creator i.m.o.) that seemed very interesting. Some kind of new game that I had never seen before but was immediately in love with!
It was the perfect game for me. After having spent just over two hours in the one hour Demo spread over several days with 5fps on the very lowest graphics I finally got my first ever computer game; Trailmakers!
I now got myself a better PC and I’ve been loving each of the 2200 hours I’ve now played in the game.
What makes you come back to the game and spend time building and designing?
There’s quite literally an unlimited amount of builds you can make. I keep coming up with concepts and ideas each time when I’m in the shower, at school or working them out as the night or day passes by until I can get on my PC and finally give it a try in the game.
Then I realise how many things I overlooked- but that only adds to the fun and will get my brain going once again to try and get over those new obstacles.
Which of your creations are you most proud of and why?
I wouldn’t know where to start, haha! Taking a look in my blueprints folder I found 1.3k files which didn’t help me choose!
While there is this pretty cool big project I’ve been working on for quite a while, I will not be choosing that yet as it’s definitely not done as of now. Y’all have to wait a bit longer for that one.
My fully mechanical Monster Truck, the Battle Bus that my brother requested and most of my Weekly Challenge entries, are some builds I’m very happy with. The one I chose in the end however, will be my SAR Polar Ground Response Truck which got lots of incredible reactions (from the community.)
The truck was quite a challenge to build, as it was outside of my usual scale. But I’m personally in love with its details and custom floppy suspension, even though it for sure won’t be winning any races.

If you have to name one, who would be a source of inspiration for you on the game? Any favourite known or unknown creator?
Someone who has greatly helped me with improving my car designs, is Reubes85. An incredibly talented builder with well over 400 amazing models on his workshop page.
I’ve been using his “secret formula” with most of my cars after he gave it out and it’s been incredibly helpful- even on non-replicas as it has taught me about wheelbases and proportions.
What is your best tip for someone who just downloaded the game and wants to get started?
Try looking at real life examples! Especially when building planes. There have been professional engineers and designers working on getting the best possible sizes and shapes to get their craft to function as efficiently as possible.
After you’ve built some successful vehicles with a bit of help from some references, you’ll be a master on these proportions and you can start really experimenting with weird shapes and get those to actually work whilst discovering tons of small, yet incredibly useful Trailmaker tricks.
Would you like to add something? Words for the community, feature request?
I honestly love you guys. This is by far one of the nicest and friendliest communities I’ve been a part of. I have met people here that I can call my friends
Keep on challenging yourself. If you feel stuck, remember you can always explore a new trail and make it your own!
