Dev Update: New Islandville Mall Work in Progress pics

The Coin Game Dev Update:

First off I want to welcome all the new players and THANK you all for supporting The Coin Game! It has been a wonderful last few years and a dream come true to be able to build this game for you. We still have a long way to go though and I could not be more excited for the future of The Coin Game.

Its been a while since I have said anything on the next steps of The Coin Game. So lets get caught up.

It saddens me to say but the multiplayer feature of the game is still on hold and going to take longer than I previously thought. So I have been finishing up more locations and new arcades in the mean time. I will share more info on the multiplayer delay when I have it.

Here's what I am currently working on...

(ALL PICS ARE WORK IN PROGRESS AND PRE LIGHTING/TEXTURING)

Islandville is getting a MALL! That's right 100's of thousands of square feet of indoor shopping and loitering goodness! The coming Islandville Mall will feature many stores, funny new characters, a movie theater, a food court and a new "Arcade Castle" with new games and machines. The coming mall is inspired by 90-00's era shopping malls that are spread all around the US. This era was a time back when being "socially active" meant leaving the house to peacock around the local shopping center for "looks" and not "likes". Getting to play real arcade games as a kid was tough and it meant venturing out in to the great big world. You were risking it all on that crappy back tire of a borrowed neighbors sisters bike. But you took the chance an went for it. The mall was worth the ride...

The next arcade coming is influenced by the Alladin's Castle that was in my home town mall. I spent many days there. I would ride my bike 4-5 miles with friends and live off of hot pretzels and free ice water from the gracious clerk at the "gourmet" pretzel stand. Life was simple. The games were all pretty lame but we loved them. Maybe not as much as we loved shaving "steps: into the sides of our mullets but you get the idea.

Over the last couple months I have modeled all the "structure" and parking lots of the mall and working on fitting it into the current map of Islandville. When I get it done and release it, it will be the largest location on the entire island. I am currently in the unwrapping process and will be texturing the new models soon. I will release more pics of the mall when I get some textures on it. This stage of development is never really that beautiful or interesting so I find myself not sharing much.

Overall the mall is huge. haha. I always seem to go a little bigger than I planned... but I think it pulls the best out of me. I only ask for patience and understanding of how big of a one man project this is. This is just a taste of the new stuff coming.

Here are a couple pics of some of the new machines coming to the next arcade. Can you guess them?

Also... I want to thank everyone for being understanding and patient as I am a one man dev. Yeah... I could hire more help but this is my sole creation and I enjoy the grind of working on it. I appreciate all the supporters and fans allowing me to present my "art project" to the world the way I see it. That means a lot to me. So again. Thank you.

Winter Holiday UPDATE! New games, locations and jobs.

This end of year holiday update brings new claw machines, new locations and even a new Pirate Pizza delivery job to earn more money around the island!

GENERAL NEWS
Thank you very much for all the support of The Coin Game!
Also... WELCOME to all the new players of The Coin Game! We are honored to have you and are VERY Thankful that you chose The Coin Game. Here at devotid... we take wasting your time very seriously. ;)

I have been working quietly in the background on this new update for a couple months (ok... more like 6 months). I am really glad to finally have it completed as my wife and I went through a large move over the last 5 months. We also had two very old Weiner doggies (16 and 17) that we spent precious last months with at our new home. All of this at once.... and no internet for 2.5 months made working on the project virtually impossible. It was also a really large job selling the old house but worth it in the end. We lived in our old home for 17 years. Its tough to leave a comfy familiar space and rebuild somewhere new. It took us about 2 years to find a nice quiet location..... but we are very lucky to have found a home in the woods. We now have a home office for us to continue working on The Coin Game were we get to stare at Gary's geese friends all day on the neighboring pond. Thank you again to all of The Coin Game supporters for helping me make this happen for my family. Without all of you NONE of this would be possible.

Silly to think that 6-7 years ago I was working part time at BestBuy installing car stereos, painting used cars in my driveway and making wakeskates at night in my garage... to now building the project of my dreams on Unity 3D. If you are passionate about games... Look into the wonderful community that Unity game engine has to offer. I could barely turn a computer on when I started this journey. Now I am more excited. More Empowered and even more inspired than I have ever been. And also.... Never give up. #indiegamedev

HOLIDAY UPDATE

Dec 22nd 2021
Update #024
Version: V0.9943
Build# 7920670
New Radio Controlled Sailboats:
One Eye'd Billies still had open area in the back... so I finished up the Radio Control Boat pond. Players can now earn tickets by piloting a wooden radio controlled sailboat around the pond and collect life rafts worth 50 tickets each. There is a time limit so be sure to hurry through all of the sea going traffic. If you get the minimum number of rings you will earn a 500 ticket bonus on top of your score.

This is a small replica of the old Radio Controlled boats from Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. I had a blast playing with these as a child and would look forward to them all year. The boats were removed in the 90's and was VERY hard to find any pictures of info on them. The entire machine was modeled and built from one single old photo I found online. I hope it brings back great memories for others or makes new ones for those that couldn't be there.
New Pizza delivery Job:
Now you can earn money delivering food to hungry islanders. Who didnt love delivering pizza pizzas as a job? Being your own boss... The open road... Pure freedom. The process is pretty simple. You buy pizzas with your own money. Put them into your inventory. Then just drop the pizza into the delivery box at each location with a light on the porch and also receive tip if you are fast enough.

summary: Purchase pizzas from the Pirate Pizza outdoor vending machine at One Eye'd Billies. Then you will see a countdown timer and a place appear on your watches mini map and also on the top left of the screen in red. Deliver any Pirate Pizza that you have to the location before the timer runs out to get paid, if you hurry you will get a nice tip from the local islanders. These delivery pizzas are not the ones from inside One Eyed Billies that you eat. Those are different and not packaged for delivery. You can not eat the delivery pizzas.

If you dont make it in time you can always sell the old pizzas to Barrys Pawn Shop for a little cash. There is a dozen locations spread around the map to deliver to. There is even a new subdivision out by the UFO arcade with 3-4 new houses. Good luck Matey!
NEW GAMES at One Eye'd Billies:
- "Fishy fishy" is a regular style of claw machine that gives stuffed animals you can collect or trade for loot at Barrys. It works just like Dude Where's My Cow?

- "Cash Claw" is a new scoop style claw machine (more of a crane bucket) that you attempt to scoop up cash and small prizes that are worth different amounts of money. If you win prizes in this machine the game will automatically add the money right to the players wallet and does not have to be "picked up" like other claw machines. This new machine is a work in progress and needs a little more optimization.

- "MegaDrop EXTREME!" It deserves ALL CAPS... because it is huge! Its is a similar version to the very popular Mega Drop that is currently at Larrrys Arcade but just way way bigger. Complete with the same catchy music. haha. Lets see those leaderboard scores... only bigger!

- Moved a copy of the Pinball Machine and the Snow Ball Battle Arcade Game to One Eye'd Billies, It wasnt getting much play at the Dollar Store. Let me know what you all think. The pinball game has not been optimized yet for One Eye's Billie's and may be a little slow on frame rate. I get about 50-60 on a GTX2060/ i7. I have to add a few more controllers to OEB to finalize the install of it... but I thought I would sneak it in there for the Holidays.

MISC updates and bug fixes:
- Added new audio for One Eye'd Billies prize counter character. YARRRRRGGGGHHHH!
- Added new audio for UFO arcade Price counter character. Space robots...
- Updated the Mini Map to show the recent locations and new subdivisions.
- Adjusted the mini map "zoom" to move farther away from the player to look around the map more. Currently you could not see the edges of the map when moving around.

- Added the onscreen GPS to the Bike to help delivering stuff to the destinations. Hit the "Tab" key on the keyboard or the watch button on the controller to view it while riding.
- Fixed the Mini Map Player Icon from Wandering around on the mini map. It works a little more precise now. It also works a little better when in a cart or on a bike.
- update the button colors on the Player Transporter on the player watch.
- Fixed a bunch of the leaderboards not recording data.

That about does it for this surprise holiday update. I have a few more things I wanted to get into this update but I have taken long enough finishing up One Eye'd Billies. I am still working on the Co-op/Multiplayer, more optimizations and a BUNCH cool new areas and games coming to Islandville throughout 2022.

Thank you all again. Have a MERRY CHRISTMAS from devotid.

New machines, loot boxes, shooting galleries, FOV slider and 7 new Achievements!

April 15th, 2021

Update #023
Version: V0.9942
Build# 6551963
New Update is LIVE!
Update day!

I have finished a few new machines for One Eye'd Billie's, some fun shooting galleries and also some new achievements. And as always... as many bug fixes as possible.

ENJOY!

New Supporter Edition of the coin game is now available for $4.99 (Gold Watch, In game poster and other cosmetic items to help support The Coin Game.) Thank you for your support!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1267250

And now for the update.
Combo Craze.
It is a game of skill were you must stop the rotating line on the dot to crack the combination 50 times in a row. The increasing speed and rotating angles are a fun challenge to get just right. I really enjoy games at the arcade that are "mostly" skill based. They are also the easiest to code too as there are no algorithms to fandangle and tweak.
Popcorn Petes Pirate Plunder.
Everyone loves Popcorn Pete! This new machine is a "plinko" style ball drop game. Press the button to fire a canon ball from the "SS Popcorn" and land in a treasure chest of tickets. It features a translucent LCD screen overlaid on the cabinets glass to give cool celebration graphics and counting screens. There is a center target that has a increasing bonus to win. Try your luck on the Popcorn Pete's Pirate Plunder game and win a boat load of tickets!
Pile Up.
Pile Up is a stacking blocks kind of game. There is a left to right sliding handle on the front of the machine to move the base platform. When the blocks fall from the top you simply need to stack them up to the ticket winning lines. Seems easy right? Just wait until the stack gets a little taller... and then TIMBER!!!!
Roadside Shootin Gallery
The new shooting galleries at One Eye'd Billie's has two sides. On the left is the "Fun" shooting gallery that will issue tickets for hitting the small targets near each "feature". The rifles use a laser light and use no real ammo. There is a spinning water wheel of chance and plenty more silly reactions to shoot at. You get a total of 15 shots for each round and there is no time limit.
Clay Pigeon Skeet Shoot
The Skeet Shoot on the right is a timed game of shooting skill with fun pellet guns and clay pigeons. You will get a specified amount of time and unlimited shots to hit as many targets as possible. For now all of the pigeons are the same value. If you hit more that 42 targets you get a 500 ticket bonus.

This is a kind of version 1.0 and I have plans to expand on this later in development.
EXTRAS:

Quickplay Mode
Added a Quickplay Mode. What is quickplay mode you ask? Quickplay Mode is a simple way to dip into the world quickly and just play the game that you want without venturing to the island and dodging bots and buses. It is just the chosen game in a empty gray room for now.

I have been working on multiplayer mode and need to work on each machine individually. I need to cycle through many machines quickly as I add features to them. Well until now, I didnt have all the machines in one place and needed to do just that for future development work. So I made a simple way for me to play each machine quickly and without having to load the entire island. So when I got done with the system the other day I thought to myself that maybe players would like a way to just play the games without all of the other stuff sometimes. So here it is. Quickplay mode.

For now you will start Quickplay Mode with $100. I think in the future I am going to make a menu that will allow the player to choose to start the mode with 5, 10, 25, 50 or 100 bucks. That way users can challenge a friend to see who gets more tickets with X amount of $. I may expand on this in the future but for now it is what it is. A single arcade machine in a room that should load a bit faster and get a little more FPS on some of the lower end computers.

Let me know what you all think.
Prize Loot Crates
I have added 20 fun loot crates around the island for the next update coming next week. A kind of challenge to get out in the great outdoors and explore! When you find one....click on it to open it. It will have 3 random prizes in them that are yours to keep.

These will be used in the future for other things and challenges and I wanted to get a little feedback on them.
OTHER CHANGE NOTES:
- Added a (field of view) FOV slider to the main player camera. It adjusts from 45-90 degrees. The default FOV field is 70 degrees. The old game was always set to 70 degrees for reference. You can change it from the Options Menu. Under the Video settings. The game will auto save the setting.

- Added 7 New Achievements. "Treasure Hunter" for finding the loot crates. They are in values of 5, 10 and 20 total Crates. One for playing a round of 18 holes in mini golf. One for Babysitting the bots one time. One for mowing Barry's Lawn and One for getting a trophy at the UFO Kart race.

- Fixed hole #14 on the putt putt golf game. Somehow the mesh got screwed up and was not letting golfers get over the small bump in the front of the hole. It is now changed and "playable". It's still not completely finished. Sorry for the mix up.

- Fixed some of the putt putt golf rocks that were missing colliders.

- Fixed the "Big Spender" Achievement not awarding when spending over 10,000 tickets on one item. It now works at all arcades.

- Increased the winning radius for the Octo Swirl game coin game. It was not awarding wins when the coin was clearly inside the winning circle. I turned the precision down a little bit to make it less strict.

- Fixed a wrong Icon on the Inflatable Putter prize. Now shows the correct icon on that prize.

- Added a plywood jump at the side of the carnival to get over the fence by the Bus stop. That way you dont have to walk all the way around to the front to enter.

- Added a few "sand cubes" to the Treasure in The Sand game at Larrys Arcade. It should be possible to get a big win a little easier now.

- Adjusted the colliders on the Machine next to Dunko as to not get the Warning form the interference system. When you would win more than one Dunko Duck it would fall into the machine next to it and set off a warning from Larry. He thinks you are sticking prizes into the machines and cheating. Some users lost some prizes because of it. It should not happen anymore.

- Barrys HOT ITEMS will now reset each night when you go to sleep when you are in Survivor mode. When you are in Birthday mode it will reset after 1.5 hours of real time playing.

- Attempted to fix the Minnion bot grabbing you and slamming you into walls. It was happening after you would shoot one and they would run away or during a celebration... Then if you interacted with them as they were running away, they would get "connected" to you and send you flying all over the place. I have set it up now that they will not run into you and it should stop the player from getting thrown around. Still looking for more feedback on them.

- I adjusted the Shoot the Star game at the Carnival and made it only give 2 credits for a win now. It used to be 3. Its now 33 percent more costly.

- Fixed the pinball extra game knock sticking in a loop.

- Fixed the Wormhole music turning off upon inserting players card.

- Increased the Health value of Pirate pizza to 25 Points and the Pirate Punch to 10 Health Points. They are now equal with a cooked microwave dinner.

- You can now get the Rasta Banana Achievement at the carnival games if you win it there.

- Added a Microwave to the Dollar Store so you can cook meals AFTER you purchase them. Meals will not work in the microwave until you have purchased them.

- Moved the Time of Day slider and Auto Time ON OFF button to the Main Player HUD on the screen instead of the wrist watch screen in Birthday mode. This way you can change the time of day easier to get the lighting and feel that you want. I dont think many people saw it on the watch and this should help a little with the confusion. This only works and is available in Birthday mode as Survivor is a locked auto time and can only be paused.

Well... that about does it for this update. Time for me to get back to working on even newer stuff ː1Quarter1Playː

Thank you for all the support and wonderful reviews. Without you none of this would be possible. Have a wonderful weekend!

Feel free to check out The Coin Game merch store here to help support development.

New update coming next week! Teaser pics included. Price increase.

Hello Islandvillers!
REMEMBER THIS IS NOT RELEASED YET AND IS JUST A TEASER. COMING NEXT WEEK!
I have been finishing up One Eye'd Billies and thought I would stop to show a few pics of the new machines and also talk about the price increase of the game coming next week. The next update to The Coin Game will feature three new arcade machines, two new shooting galleries and two extra little features. Oh and lots of bugs fixes, a FOV slider and some fixed achievements all coming next week.

After reading through all of the discussions and suggestion threads I came up with these next arcade machines.
The first machine is Combo Craze.
The second machine is Popcorn Petes Pirate Plunder.
The third new arcade game coming in the next update is Pile Up.

I really cant wait to see all the new videos and streams of people saying.... "Just one more". Haha. After an update I usually spend a day watching streamers and gathering feedback. I dont know how many times I have heard "If the dev is watching this " and I think to myself "ok write this down. That's a great idea."

For example... about a month ago I was watching a user play the game on Twitch and he was babysitting. He lost the mop through the wall and could not finish the task. He proceeded to click on the box of floor wipes on the ground next to the mops original position as it was the most logical thing to do to bring the mop back. So after watching this. I have since added that feature to the next update. Because it was a great idea. So thanks to him the game is now better for all of us (Well next week it will be.... but you get what I mean.) This is just one example but I have used many streamers suggestions and really appreciate you sharing your feedback.

As always feel free to give feedback in the discussion areas. I do my best to read them all as well.

When I built One Eye'd Billies I left an area for "Captains Quarters Shootin Gallery" on the right when you come in. At the time of modeling and building it I didnt know what I was going to put in there. I knew I wanted a "roadside" shooting gallery somewhere in the game like you see on the interstates of America but I didnt know if it would fit in the theme of Captains Quarters. Well I just went for it. I started modeling funny things that I remembered from Cedar Point shooting galleries (Google It). I believe they called it Frontier Town or something like that. It was really fun and I remembered it for many years growing up. When I was modeling I found only one single horrible quality video. It worked though. So thank you to that guy that lugged that 10 lbs VHS camera all around the park that day and got that valuable vintage footage for us. :)
Roadside Shootin Gallery
The new shooting galleries at One Eye'd Billie's has two sides. On the left is the "Fun" shooting gallery that will issue tickets for hitting the small targets near each "feature". This is a kind of version 1.0 and I have plans to expand on this later in development.

Here are a couple of small extras that I will be releasing next week in the new update.
Quickplay Mode
Added a Quickplay Mode. What is quickplay mode you ask? Quickplay Mode is a simple way to dip into the world quickly and just play the game that you want without venturing to the island and dodging bots and buses. It is just the chosen game in a empty gray room for now.
The price of The Coin Game will increase next week to $13.99 USD. So get it now whiles it's cheap!
Here is a picture of the original concept for The Coin Game. It was originally called Push Stuff. Here is the original Steam Greenlight Link from 2015. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=568690459

When the coin game was released in Feb 2019 it featured about a dozen games in one location. Now two years later the game features 3 full arcades, over 50 games and ticket machines, 15 unique locations with multiple money earning jobs. Along with a multiplayer planned for the future.

So my wife and I thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for giving us the ability to build this title for you. I read all of the comments, suggestions and discussions and seeing some of the folks enjoying the nostalgia and environment of a small town really makes the feels flow. :)

So that's about it for this little teaser. Look out for the update next week.

BIG UPDATE! New location, 8 new games, 18 hole mini golf and cheap pizza!

Dec 24th, 2020

Update #022
Version: V0.9941
Build# 6012822

Merry Christmas Islandvillers! I've got a BIG UPDATE for you just in time for the holidays. As always this is a work in progress and it may contain some bugs but I will be doing my best to gather and patch them all week. ;). So I do thank you all for being understanding and helping out. The new arcade will come out in a couple stages.

This is the first version of the new One Eye'd Billie's Adventure and Fun Center. The new arcade comes complete with 10 New machines and an indoor 18 Hole Putt Putt Golf Course. It is located pretty close to the home over by the mountains. You can see it on your watch mini map now as "Billies". If you are taking the bus there, you should get off at the Mountains stop and walk the rest of the way. Remember this arcade is still a WORK IN PROGRESS and not fully complete yet but I really wanted to get this to you all for a little extra holiday cheer.

- 8 new games inspired from modern popular releases and also some good ol'arcade classics.
- New Pirate themed prizes at the prize booth ran by One Eye'd Billie himself.
- New character bots that will "play" the games at One Eye'd Billies. Makes it feel a little more alive.
- New indoor 18 hole putt putt golf course. You can play just the front 9 holes or the back 9 holes... or all 18. You will win tickets when you complete the full golf game. Lower score = More tickets. (Work in progress... still adjusting winning values)

- Pirate pizza snack Bar inside the new arcade so you never have to leave. (Pizza Delivery Job coming later in future.)

- Half the arcade is "closed and under construction". This update is just a "pre grand opening" party. Feel free to look around. Billy wanted to get everyone in for the holidays. He is such a push over. I barely had to even ask him and he was like " Do you think they will even want to come when its only 3/4 of the way complete.?" I told him "We have to try Billy... we have to try."
Other features additions and bug fixes:
By popular demand I have added a sitting feature to the character controller. This will let you waste some time and watch a sunset at the beach or even enjoy some "bro/goose time" with Gary watching the TV. Now when you hover on an applicable chair, a cursor will show a sitting image. Left Click or the interact button on controller to sit down. Then when you want to stand up again just hit the the Exit "vehicle" button or the E Key. When you are at home or at the babysitters the TV Remote will be in your right hand. Left click or press the "Interact" button to change the channel. I am still working on more ways to get better TV shows coming... So this is just a tool to make it a little cooler when that stuff is done in the future.

- Added a few new Clothing options to both the characters. I still plan on replacing the main characters someday but I also like to keep it fresh for the new year. ;)
- Added Visual Heath damage queues. The screen will flash red upon hurting yourself and also when you are under water and drowning.
- decreased the amount of health loss when energy is very low.
- Health resets to 99 after a full nights rest in Survivor Mode.
- Added a drowning controller when you are underwater now. you will lose health for being underwater so plan accordingly.
- Added the ability to get paid in babysitting by getting all but one of the dirt spots. Just like the toys now.
New Arcade Machines:

- Ticket Toboggan
Old school ticket ramp game. Play one shot at a time. Go for the thin red slots to win the bonus. TIming is everything.
- Lava Mayhem
Ball/Marble Coin Style pusher with bonus wheel and Ice Ball Ramp.
- Wheel Er Up
Timing Pinball Style level up game. Make it to the top to get to spin the bonus wheel for big ticket prizes.
- Pick Yer Treasure
As close as you can get to roulette for kids. Place your "wager" and spin it. Not too much involved here.
- Octo Swirl
Coin dropper style game. Timing is everything. Drop it on the wheel at the right time to get the coin in one of the circles on the edges. Easier said than done though. ;)
- Super Hoops
A classic basket ball shooter game. Last 15 seconds are 3 pointers... all the others are 2. You get paid about 3 tickets per point when all said and done. I am still adjusting all winnings on all games.
- Power Puck
All star classic Air Hockey game. There is also some new opponents to play against. Aim and hit one button. I tried to make it very simple but still fun to play. I dont want to turn this game into a Air Hockey sim. I mean that would be fun.... but we have arcades to build.
KNOWN ISSUES for One Eye'd Billies:
- Minion Bots may "stick to you" on lower end PC's. Collider issue still getting fixed.
- The new machines and building is NOT OPTIMISED Yet. This is a fun sneak peek at the new arcade and may run about 10-20% slower than normal.
- Wheel Er Up game may skip a tooth due to a physics issue I am still working on.

Thank you for being understanding.
New Arcade character Bots:
I have been testing some new characters that will travel around, occupy and play some of the arcade games along side of you. This is only at One Eye'd Billies for now. It should make the arcades feel a little more alive until we get the multiplayer done some day. Now there will be a another gamer wandering around One Eye'd Billies playing games with you. Sometimes he is "filming clips" for his day job. The guy is a Arcade legend! ;)

I hope you all enjoy it! Let me know in the comments what you think.

After the Christmas break I will be continuing work on the rest of the machines for One Eye'd Billies, RC Boat game and the Shooting Gallery. Thank you for all the support for The Coin Game!

Happy Holidays!

Kevin
