Escape The Pacific News

Best wishes & Thank you!

Hi everyone,

we are heading towards the end of the year and before that we would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for supporting us throughout the year! Thank you for your ideas, suggestions and criticism helping us make Escape the Pacific a better game!

In 2019 we were mainly concentrated on adding basic mechanics and functionality. However we also ...
• expanded game content with many new models and introduced new island types,
• upgraded the game lighting system as much as the cloud system was replaced with a more realistic volumetric one,
• updated the cooking system and added new recipes
• and implemented the new-comer systems Vitamin C and Food diversity to provide a more challenging game experience.

As almost all of the basic features are already implemented (mainly, except of the 25 000 km2 open ocean with island clusters), we'll put our focus on adding more and more content for the next year, eg vegetation, island types, animals, quests, story elements ... and maybe the basics for multiplayer. Certainly we have some surprise elements planned too. With Escape the Pacific taking place in the mid 1800's there's a whole lot of possibilities to implement interesting and unique features. We hope that our community will continue to support us with new ideas, suggestions and with their positive energy - so, together, we get to improve the game and increase gaming experience. Some of your ideas we already received were truly inspiring and will find their way into the game sooner or later for sure.

Holidays are here and besides resting we plan to work on new features and on improving gameplay a little, working a bit less on the game than usual.

Our next build will be released in January 2020, until then:
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

Do you like our game and want to help even more during development? We look forward to every positive review posted on our Steam page and thank everyone who decides to support us along the way!

Alpha 45 - Controller support & Tutorials

Hi everyone,

For this update we were mainly focusing on adding Controller support and a basic system for Tutorials too. There are a couple of small features we added and a couple of issues were fixed too.

Controller support is now finally available and its engine is compatible with the majority of available game controllers out there. As this is the first implementation for Controller support we are putting fixing possible incompatibility altogether with completing some of the minor UI issues onto our to-do list.

The Tutorial system is currently offering simple Tutorials to help get familiarized with some of the basic mechanics of the game. More detailed and specialized tutorials will be added continually. Along with that we have added an additional Tutorials screen to the Journal from where Tutorials can be started, stopped, restarted or continued for any of the tutorials available. And in Options menu there is also a switch for displaying Tutorials or not.

As we received lots of responses from our gamers being confused about special game variables meaning in "Custom Game" menu, we added new tooltip texts and information to this screen. Window panels were given a new (and more practical) top hinge position when attached and we have also added a Small Chest which may be serving a special purpose in future updates.

We plan to work some more on making our game more user friendly with more Hints, Tutorials and narrative texts but re-enabling the Sextant and the 5000x5000 km game map again will still be our top priority. The additional plans include also the Map UI, Fruit ripening, Fruit regrow, Spear, Smoker, Ship wrecks, Sailing UI, Dolphins, Sharks, Simple Quests ... We will work also on solving the new issues and we will recheck some older issues too. Other new features will be added as implementing the planned features and fixing issues will allow us to.

Thank you for your patience and for your constructive feedbacks helping us to get rid of the issues as fast as is possible.

Do you like our game and want to help even more during development? We look forward to every positive review posted on our Steam page and thank everyone who decides to support us along the way!

Please be aware that during early access phase game code could change as much as affecting gameplay when loading/saving savegames from earlier versions. To always be on the safe side make sure to start a new game with each update. Thank you!

Alpha 44 - Doors & Windows, Dragging system, Bucket

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 44' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on adding the mechanic for Doors and Windows. The object Dragging system was upgraded and a new collectible Bucket was also added. A couple of the issues were fixed too.

The Door & Window mechanic finally allows to completely seal off buildings against all of the weather elements. They can be attached/detached to Door and Window wall modules in a way similar to the raft building mechanic. Orientation of Doors and Windows can be changed any time holding a Hammer in hands after they were attached. This wall attach mechanic will be used for some other craftable objects which will be introduced in the next updates.

The object dragging system has been finally upgraded to work correctly while interacting with floatable objects. Simple objects are pushed by dragged objects but floatable objects aren't affected until they are dragged directly. Dragged objects won't be slowed down when they get in contact with other objects.

The new collectible Bucket makes transferring liquids easier and collects much more rain than other collectors.

Changelog:

New features:

01. Added: Attach to Wall mechanic
02. Added: 5 types of Doors
03. Added: 5 types of Windows
04. Added: New Dragging system
05. Added: Collectible Bucket

02. Added: Hint pages with Image for Bench, Stool, Green Coconut and Brown Coconut
03. Added: ActionBar keys for Door&Window Open/Close and Next Position

Fixes:

03. Changed: ActionBar key desription positions to allow longer 2 line text display
04. Fixed: Incorrect Actionbar Mouse button icon for some keys after they were remapped in Options
05. Fixed: Objects attached to raft sometimes losing the attached state after save/load
06. Fixed: Objects attached to raft sometimes displaying the attaching rope in wrong placement after save/load

We plan to work some more on making our game more user friendly with more Hints, Tutorials and narrative texts but re-enabling the Sextant and the 5000x5000 km game map again will still be our top priority. Alpha 43 - Fasten Raft Boxes, Bench & Stool, Collectible Chest

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 43' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on adding the mechanic to fasten Boxes to Rafts. The new Stool and Bench allows more comfortable resting. There is a new Chest for more valuable collectibles and a couple of issues were fixed too.

Fastening objects to Rafts allows you to make sure they won't fall off - even when approaching bigger waves. Boxes, chests and barrels only can be fastened and to do so you'll need a Strong Rope which can be crafted from a couple of Small Ropes.

Stool and Bench are helpful when looking forward to rest during hard work or to simply wait for some event. The mechanic is identical to sitting on the ground: Tiredness in the morning hours slowly decreases, increasing tiredness in the afternoon and in the evening will be slown down and Stamina recovery is sped up. The only difference is that the Stool decreases the tiredness faster than the Bench and the Bench faster than the ground.

On some shores of random islands you might find the new chests holding more valuable collectibles. More special items will be added in future updates and those can be found in these new Chests only.

Changelog:

New features:

01. Added: Fasten Boxes to Raft
02. Added: Stool model and recipe
03. Added: Bench model and recipe
04. Added: Strong Rope model and recipe
05. Added: Chest collectible

General:

01. Added: Functionality for displaying Hint Screens with Image
02. Added: Custom Tiredness recovery curve for Stool
03. Added: Custom Tiredness recovery curve for Bench
04. Added: Key shortcut hints for Map in ActionBar

Fixes:

01. Added: Additional logging to help tracking down some issues
02. Fixed: Crashing when saving Tree/Bush/Foliage after hitting but not cut down
03. Fixed: Sometimes shown white rectangle in ActionBar instead of icon of the object in focus
04. Fixed: Campfire on Raft base sometimes not correctly attached
05. Fixed: Objects of far remote islands disappear after save/load when player was on another island
06. Fixed: Sometimes Collectible crates were not at the exact position as before save/load
07. Fixed: Impossible to add Kindling to Campfire when there is evidently no Kindling in it
08. Fixed: Impossible to ignite Campfire when there is evidently Kindling in it
09. Fixed: Cooked objects on cooking stones that were removed re-appearing after save/load
10. Fixed: Mixing up liquid type in all Coconut pots when multiple separate coconut pots with different liquids are cooked at the same time on the same Campfire
11. Fixed: Unresponsive Equip/Pick up commands after Map was opened while holding an object in hand while with no free space in Inventory left to stash held item

We plan to work some more on making our game more user friendly with more Hints, Tutorials and narrative texts but re-enabling the Sextant and the 5000x5000 km game map again and the Dragging system will still be our top priority. Alpha 42 - Lagoon Island, Campfire on Floor, Candle Lantern

Hi everyone,

the new Escape the Pacific version 'Alpha 42' is now available.

For this update we were mainly focusing on adding a new type of islands: Lagoon Island. Campfires on Floor are finally here and a new Candle Lantern was also added. Lots of preparation work was done in the background and a couple of issues were fixed too.

The new Lagoon type Islands are a nice and interesting addition to the existing list of the island types. Later in the game they'll get special meanings and it will also be possible to find some rare stuff only on those islands.

The long awaited Campfire on Floor and on Raft floors is finally here. Its recipe also requires a newly introduced craft ingredient: Sand, which can be collected on the beach with Coconut Pots, Goblets and Tankards.. Maximum new campfire size is medium and cooking rocks cannot be removed.

Candle Lanterns make the traveling at night with wind and rain easier as weather effects won't affect those lanterns. Torches from now on will be extinguished in the rain.

The base functionality for a simple In-Game Tutorial system has been laid down and the first couple of tutorials will be available soon. The mechanic allowing to attach some objects to other objects could almost be completed to make it possible to attach Windows, Doors or other objects to building modules or attach Barrels, Crates and Boxes to Rafts.

Changelog:

New Features:

01. Added: Lagoon type Island
02. Added: Candle Lantern
03. Added: CampFire on Floor
04. Added: CampFire on Raft
05: Added: Sand as new crafting ingredient

General:

01. Added: Torch reacts to Rain effects
02. Changed: Craft Blueprint positioned closer to ingame character

Fixed:

01. Fixed: Game halting when loading very old savegames - improved compatibility engine
02. Fixed: Birds not landing to roost in the evening on (mainly) remote islands
03. Fixed: Collectible Crate and Barrel 'hanging' in the air and not moving with the Raft after save/load
04. Fixed: Fire-saw blueprint collides with other objects

Besides on working on the above mentioned mechanics we will work more on re-enabling the Sextant and the 5000x5000 km game map again and on the Dragging system. Additional plans include also the Map UI, Fruit ripening, Fruit regrow, Door, Window, Spear, Smoker, Ship wrecks, Sailing UI, Dolphins, Sharks, Game Controller, Tutorial System, Simple Quests ... We will also work on solving new issues and we will recheck some older issues too. Other new features will be added as implementing the planned features and fixing issues will allow us to.
