Fishing on the Fly News

Added features including 4k

I’ve been really busy polishing up the game these last two weeks. I’ve added over fifty more fish models with almost every texture in 4K. There are a dozen salmon and a dozen steelhead ready to be put in game. I’ve also added graphic support for 4K, so in settings you can experiment with 4096*2160. The game was built for HD, so 3840*2160 is best if it works for you.

There are now weights and length for every fish in the game. I reiterated the HUD after you catch a fish including all new vector graphics and sayings.

In settings I’ve also added a FPS gauge and full screen mode. I will add the ability to select performance over graphics or vice versa before launch too. I’ve alredy tested this successfully. You will have to restart the game though.

I was not able to build in a mouse menu interface or tournament play yet. I went with polish over feature creep. There is full controller support though and the game plays best with a controller - it is harder.

I will be adding videos in the help section before launch too for keyboard and controller. These should work like you except, except ctrl key is jump. Pressing And holding down the middle mouse button will move you forward.

You asked for a game that would push a high-end graphics card. You asked for weights on the fish. You asked for world record and special fish and I’ve added those too.

I know not everything can possibly be perfect at launch, but I hope you can tell that I am going to respond by building in the features you want. I really, really hope you enjoy what is years of my life in your pocket.

Cheers.

We passed the review process today!

All lights are green for a release, as I was told today by Steam we passed their review to go live.

I'm set to release it this January 15, which also is my birthday! I've spent years making this game alone and I'm stoked beyond belief that it is being released. Sometimes I know I talk in a "we" voice; but all the rigging, animations, and programming was done by me over this time. I did alter a couple models, but 99% of all the art I created from scratch too. I think I say we because I use the Unreal Engine and without those people - this game wouldn't exist. You can toss Blender in there as well for a big thank you.

My hope is that I have created a unique game that you will find vastly rewarding. I scripted a lot of game play variation, so that the game doesn't become stagnant or boring. You unlock certain modes by leveling up and will be able to fish real life conditions by today's date, as an example. It will get harder as you play too. I also think you will see a lot AAA features, like the UI, by a single dev. It has been an exhausting endeavor but one where I worked my hardest to bring you a great game.

I don't expect miracles of marketing magic to happen at launch but I do hope I will be able to earn a loyal fan base over time, as people are exposed to the game. Thanks for being part of the journey so far!

Delay in release

I've pushed back the release date in order to meet Steam's requests they've made in the review process. The game met the criteria listed in the rules written for release, but questions regarding plans for Steam's wallet integration lead to this delay. If It wasn't for this holdup, the game would be released now. An executive decision was made that this integration was key to tournament play and worth the delay to incorporate this functionality, versus remove it to pass the review.

I apologize for any confusion this delay has caused. I've been working hard in multiple directions to continue the development of the game. We've added tons of new fish during the review period, the timeline for overall development plans during Early Access remains the same and continues without interruption.

I'm posting on our Facebook page pictures of fish made just last night. These new fish are the first Salmon to be brought into the game and the odds of catching them will be slim but increase as you play the game.

Second Steam review results

Good/Bad news

The good news is that there have been zero technical questions or bugs being reported by Steam.

The bad news is they didn't like the in-game store in its current form. These issues weren't raised during the first review, so it is a little frustrating to be hearing them now.

I apologize that I am moving the release date back during the time the game is in review.

I promise I am doing everything I can to make and release a great game. I am dediticated to doing so.

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving! Perhaps Santa/Steam can bring you Fishing on the Fly as a present for Christmas!

Thanks,

Mac

First pass results from Steam Review yesterday.

The controller wasn't changing flies like it should. I fixed that. The game is being resubmitted.

There is some confusion about levels being locked and access to them. I gave the test build to Steam with testing keys to fast forward through the game. This will address their issue but raises another.

What are people's opinion on locations and rivers being locked until reaching certain "experience points" or levels? There are 100 levels in the game and the second map you can play is at level 15. They unlock in increments of about 20.

Also Free to Play doesn't really work for me because of now this game sits in a pretty small niche unless I can convince mainstream people to come on board. Without in app purchases (I'm planning to get loot boxes up, etc.) I don't feel I can support this. Right now if you buy the game, it comes with enough fish bucks to buy the equipment you need to beat the game. In the future I would consider free to play and stripping out the starting fish bucks. Do people feel that is fair?

Does a demo suffice for free to play for those that are considering buying the game for now?

Thanks everyone for the great feedback!
