Beta 4.9 - World Map and Key Binds

Today's update includes a new world map and some additional key bind options.

  • Press "M" or click the right stick on the controller to bring up the world map. The map updates and displays your position. I might add some more functionality to this such as showing quest objectives and mouse-over text for the major POI (such as Shaydee's Shop), but I wanted to get the base map in to see what you all think.
  • You can now change the key bind for the Town Manager UI. The World Map key bind can also be updated.

Beta 4.8 - Combat and Performance Update

Beta 4.8 includes some changes to combat based on your feedback and the option to lower texture resolutions for those with closer to min-spec PCs.
  • If you attack when your target is too far away to hit, but another monster is in melee range, that monster will now be hit by your attack as long as you are facing it. Your target will always take priority however, so once the target is back in melee range, all attacks will focus back on that monster.
  • Monsters attack slightly more often. I'm going to be tweaking this over time. Right now monsters are probably a bit too easy, but I'd rather start there and then gradually up the difficulty. I feel pretty good about this change, so would love to hear your feedback!
  • Goblins now have a chance to perform a special "triple stab" attack. When they do this, each attack is half the damage of their normal attack, but if you take all three hits it hurts more than the regular attack! The goblins in the tutorial do not do this attack. This attack can be blocked, but each block will use stamina. I'll be adding more special attacks to other monsters and adding the Brutes back in as well.
  • Added a texture quality slider to allow you to lower the texture resolution in the game. This can help improve performance on PCs near the min spec.
  • Optimized the game more when using the best performance trees and the closest camera distance. Again, should help improve performance when using those settings.
  • You can now set the shadow distance and the grass detail distance all the way to zero to help improve performance even more.

Beta 4.7.2 - Combat Tweaks

Tonight's build includes some tweaks to the combat system.
  • Adjusted the rate at which monsters attack. I modified this a bit ago but wanted to update it again. Monsters were too often dying before performing a single attack. So with these changes, they're a bit more likely to attack now​. Also a monster that is on his own will also attack a bit more often than previous.
  • Mages will now correctly be knocked back a bit when hit. They were actually set to move when hit, but they were moving in the direction opposite your facing. So most of the time, if you were behind the mage, they'd simply bump into you and not move. This is the reason you'd find yourself walking into a mage spell when attacking. Mages now move in the direction of your attack, so that should no longer happen.
  • Made some slight adjustments to monster hit points.
  • Did some back-end work to allow adding monster Brutes back into the game. This will help add some variety to monster melee attacks.
  • Fixed a bug that sometimes caused the character to get stuck after performing the second attack in the main attack combo.

Beta 4.7.1 - Scarecrow Quest Fixes

Tonight's build includes two fixes related to the Scarecrow Quest.
  • Fixed a bug that sometimes caused the 7th part of the quest to fail to complete and start the final part.
  • Fixed a couple of areas of the Mansion that were missing collision.

I'm currently working on integrating localization support so the next few updates will likely be small and farther apart than usual. The initial integration work will take some time and then I'll need to update anywhere where text is generated, either in code or in the UI. I will try and add some new things (such as a couple more story quests) and smaller features while I work on this.

Beta 4.7 - The Night Sky

Today's build has a new story quest - The Night Sky. Help find the materials needed to make a telescope so your people can look to the stars!

And, the telescope works!



It's mostly just for fun, but it felt odd to have a telescope in the town that didn't do anything so I added this to it.

This update also includes a small change to petting Nika the Dog. When you pet her, your weapon will disappear and then reappear when you are done. It looked weird to pet a dog with an axe in your hand. :)
