Mewgenics, the cat breeding roguelike from The Binding Of Isaac creator, has been delayed to avoid fighting other big moggies

Mewgenics, the long-in-development endless cat breeding game from devs Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel, has just had its release pencilled in for February 10th, 2026, by a fresh trailer. Yes, it’s still looking very weird and nigh impossible to explain to a mate in less than two minutes.


Following on from the trailer it got in April, this latest one roped in the most fitting collab Binding of Isaac developer McMillen and co could have landed, in the form of sinewy surrealism expert and YouTuber MeatCanyon. We’ve also gotten a nice overview of where the devs are at in assembling their weird feline with two heads.

MEWGENICS RELEASE DATE TRAILER!

You gotta fucking watch the trailer![/p][p]HUGE thanks to Hunter, Nik, basementperson, and the rest of the team who did a really killer job on it![/p][p]....[/p][p]You watched it, right? You didn’t just skip down to see the date? Because I just said I'm not posting it outside of the trailer itself, so just watch it and stop looking here for it![/p][p][/p][p]Ok now the dev blog![/p][p][/p][p]What is left dev-wise? Well let me update you![/p][p][/p]
  • [p]The final boss is drawn and half animated—he/she/it will hopefully be implemented by the end of the month![/p]
  • [p]We’ve started adding hard path rewards and random gen items for said rewards (this is very cool stuff!).[/p]
  • [p]Lots of new cutscenes were added! We have 4 large cutscenes and 6 small cutscenes to go![/p]
  • [p]We went ahead and had Ridiculon add 3 more tracks to the game for some extra late-game spice![/p]
  • [p]Next week we start to implement alt/shiny furniture! (This is also very cool!)[/p]
  • [p]Big secret late-game system has been fully implemented![/p][p][/p]
[p]The question on your mind is probably...[/p][p]“Well if all this stuff is getting done so fast, what is taking all this extra time for release!?!”[/p][p][/p][p]Calm down! Let me explain! This is what we’ll be working on for the next 4 months:[/p]
  • [p]Making sure all text is 100% finished and NPC stories/dialogue is completed so we can send it to our localizers and launch in more than a few languages.[/p]
  • [p]Heavily testing the game so not only is the game’s difficulty smoother, but also to polish and add any missing effects/visuals/sfx... because there are A LOT of moving parts to this and we want our attention to detail to show.[/p]
  • [p]Finishing the remaining Mutations and Items—there are still 100+ left of each to add in.[/p]
  • [p]Fluffing up the events. Now that we know what this game is, we can start implementing custom events that not only complement the story but also utilize mechanics we’ve added recently.[/p]
  • [p]General polish—tons of little extras that not only make the experience cooler but also smooth out any UI or mechanical issues our testers have run into.[/p]
  • [p]More Cutscenes![/p]
[p][/p][p]“But then why not just launch in Nov?!?!”[/p][p][/p][p]Dude, listen. Launching in Nov–Dec is hard. We want this game to get the attention it deserves and don’t want to compete with holidays and holiday AAA releases. And honestly, adding a few more months to dev means launching with an even more heavily tested and polished experience![/p][p][/p][p]So bear with us! We know you wanna play, we want you to play! And starting at some point in Jan we’ll start doing live streams, or something? I dunno the details yet but I'm sure it’ll happen soon! Also more hands-on previews are in the works! And maybe even more trailers?! This OST is so fucking good... there isn’t one track on it that I don’t totally love. Ridiculon usually uploads the spoiled tracks to their Bandcamp page, so feel free to check it out and throw ’em a bone! (They deserve it!)

A common question we get asked about Mewgenics is, "Can you break the game like in Isaac?" and our response is usually "Well duh!", but I thought I’d prove it by posting a tiny video of what one of our testers was able to achieve in a recent run (Thanks Eli!)

So here’s what’s happening... Eli found a piece of armor that says each time you lose a Holy Shield (a shield effect that blocks all damage from one instance), fire sparkles at random enemies equal to the number of damage absorbed by the shield. Then he added in a piece of armor that doubles the effect of the first armor piece. Then, using another combo with his fighter, he was able to hit his own unit wearing that armor combo with a mega punch, essentially doubling his damage and spreading it out across the whole map with a single attack.

Mewgenics is cool. I’m excited to see what you guys do with it!

We are slowly moving up the Steam Wishlist ranks, in the 170 range, so if you are seeing this and haven't wishlisted the game yet please do! We'd love to get into the top 100 by the end of summer so do us a favor and wishlist, it helps a ton for placement and pushes the game into the algorithm.

Next month we should have a release date locked in and hope to reveal it with the help of a very Meaty buddy of mine.. no not that one.. the other one!
