1986 Mode Discovered!

The recently released Classic Mode hides a secret...within the update is a more difficult mode called “1986”.

Classic Mode is an homage to the classic games of yesteryear, when games were 8-bit and controllers were analog. One mistake and you’re sent back to the beginning of the level with one less life to lose. Lose enough and it’s Game Over.

1986 takes things to a new level by restricting Miriam’s abilities within the mode.

* No Backflip
* No Backstep
* No Slide
* Mid-air control is reduced
* Cannot jump off stairs
* Cannot jump on to stairs
* Extended whip is not available
* Cannot stand/crouch mid whip animation

Reducing Miriam’s abilities requires your own skills to be sharp as a sword to reach the end. The mode still has three difficulty levels to choose from, so you may want to start off on easy to get used to the controls.

To access the mode, head to the Extra Modes menu.

MAIN MENU ➡️ EXTRA MODE ➡️ CLASSIC MODE

On the Classic Mode launch screen, enter the following code:

⬆️⬆️⬇️⬇️⬅️➡️⬅️➡️🔘(X or Square)🔘(B or O)

When you have successfully entered the code, “1986” will appear at the bottom of the screen. Starting the game will reveal Miriam in a new red outfit. This lets you know that you’re playing 1989 Mode.

We hope you enjoy 1986 Mode!

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night pits you against Koji Igarashi in new DLC

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night's first post-launch DLC expansion has landed on iOS and Android alongside three new modes. These very welcome additions flesh out this already content-packed spiritual successor to the classic Castlevania games.

The paid DLC pack pits you against Bloodstained and Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi in a battle for some sweet loot, including a fancy new whip sword and power shard. If you quite fancy taking on poor Koji, you can grab the 'Iga's Back Pack' DLC for $0.99/£0.99 from your mobile store of choice.

The addition of both a boss rush and speed run mode is another cause for celebration, with the former throwing a whole heap of bosses at you to defeat in a set order and the latter challenging you to clear quests as quickly as possible. Basically, you now have new ways to make a tough game even more so - and the best part is that the latest modes are free.

Classic Mode and Kingdom Crossover Launch Today

Hello, Army of the Night!

Today we launch Classic Mode and a new area and boss based on the hit game Kingdom: Two Crowns. The updates (ver 1.20) is free! Play Bloodstained in a whole new (old) way!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Miriam must once again enter the castle to confront Gebel and survive five harrowing stages and five sub-bosses that stand in her way. Armed only with a sword and whip, can she survive her journey through the demonic castle?

Classic Mode brings retro action to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night with levels and gameplay inspired by the classic games of yesteryear.

In addition to your main weapon, you will be able to pick up special, limited-use abilities throughout the mode, but you can only have one at a time. When you pick up a new ability, the previous one will disappear.

As you advance though the castle, you will have to defeat the sub-bosses to advance to the next stage. Defeat them all and you will face off against Gebel himself!

When you finish Classic Mode, you’ll be graded on time, score and number of deaths across three difficulty modes – be sure to efficiently use Miriam’s special moves including slide, backstep and backflip.

To play Classic Mode, choose “Extra Mode” from the main menu and then select “Classic Mode”. The mode is available to all Ritual of the Night owners, you do not need to have completed the core game to play Classic Mode.

Last year we partnered with our friends at Raw Fury to transport Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night’s beloved characters – Miriam, Zangetsu, Gebel and Alfred – to Kingdom: Two Crowns.

Now it’s time to pay it forward as both publishers team up once again to merge the worlds of Kingdom: Two Crowns and Bloodstained. The Kingdom Crossover includes a new area that captures the beautiful, modern pixel art aesthetic of Kingdom.

Within the Kingdom area, you will encounter a new boss that, once defeated, will grant the new Archer Familiar Shard. This familiar will follow you throughout your adventures and attack enemies from a ranged distance. Level up the shard to get more powerful attacks!

The Kingdom Crossover will become available after you have defeated Bathin on your current save, or load an old save where you have previously defeated him. From there you will need to acquire the Crown of Creation before you will be able to locate the hidden area (it’s not shown on the map).

The Crown of Creation is equipped into the head slot and is your key to the Kingdom Crossover area. It also reduces damage at the cost of gold when worn.

We are excited for you to play the new Classic Mode and to experience the Kingdom Crossover.

Thank you for playing Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night AND for playing Kingdom: Two Crowns!

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night mobile review - bad blood

I'm relatively new to Castlevania games, but I understand the basic concept. You explore and platform through a vast Gothic castle, hack n' slashing whatever demonic monstrosity gets in your way with a variety of weapons. It's a strong formula which has influenced a good deal of the Metroidvanias we enjoy today. So when I saw that ArtPlay's Kickstarter Action-RPG Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was coming to mobile, I was excited to give it a whirl, and learn a little more about the genre.

And Bloodstained seems like an excellent place to start. In many ways the spiritual successor to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, it acts as the perfect jumping off point for people who never played the original games, as well as an inventive spin on the classic formula.

You play as Miriam, one of the last Shardbinders, a group of humans forcibly bonded with demon-charged crystals by a group of alchemists, and then sacrificed to summon the insidious beings. But Miriam survived, due to falling into a deep asleep before the ritual took place.
