Letter from the Team - June 3rd

Hello Everyone!

This week is a shorter update on the current discussion around the ongoing issues with the Xbox launch of the Resistance Update, but we also have more to share of what's to come!

As many of you know, the release of the Resistance Update is currently split shipped, with our Xbox community waiting patiently for it to hit the platform. We’ve been hard at work addressing those issues these past two weeks and have submitted another round of certification.

We have some preliminary results back and are actively working with Microsoft to assess those. We will know more in the coming week, as we don’t have a definitive result just yet. It is not the answer we were hoping to share this week, but it is, unfortunately, the one we have at this given moment.

Now that we’ve covered the “here and now,” we do want to continue on our promise of sharing more of what’s to come! We previously showed the early phases of the G79 Grenade launcher some weeks back, which has come along quite nicely. That’s not the only weapon in-store; we have two more that are nearly ready to be dropped into Östertörn and loaded into your arsenal.

The COM-10 SMG - This little package packs quite the punch, and you will even be able to creep up on unsuspecting robots with its attachments.

The S21 is also coming! This marksman rifle has been a staple of the military for some decades already, and it will likely be a staple in your loadout to fight back.

We’re looking forward to sharing more with you before the summer hits in full swing, so stay tuned to all our channels. These have been bite-size so far, but we are zeroing in more and more on a broader roadmap that we can share with you all.

Until next time,

-The Generation Zero Team

Letter from the Team - May 21st

Hello again everybody! Get ready for a letter with mixed emotions as we’ve got some unfortunate news to deliver today. Besides information on our Xbox update, we will be addressing some feedback that we’ve obtained regarding the revamp of the Forest Region and world improvements that we’re working on.

To rip the bandaid straight off, the Resistance Update for Xbox has unfortunately been delayed once more. We are not quite ready to share a new date just yet as we are in the middle of new rounds of testing for the fixes. We do know this must be frustrating for many to hear, but we are always grateful for the patience and communication that you all have given us as a community. To go into a bit more detail around the current situation:

We went into the most recent certification round with confidence our fixes would address the issues at hand. While these did address the permutations of issues we knew about, there was another permutation that still failed to present itself in the (multiple) battery of tests the update went through thus far for Xbox. The team has been quick to address these, and the plan is to get the latest build sent off for testing before another round of certification next week.

What does this mean for the Resistance Update on Xbox? Based on the timeline above, it has pushed the update out from the month of May. While this is not the news we were hoping to deliver this week, we will be sharing more information as the situation progresses. So, keep an eye out for more updates next week!

Now that we’ve got that part out of the way let’s talk about the world revamp, as many of you have been asking about it.

The Resistance update mainly focuses on the northern part of the Forest Region, so not every part of it was addressed in this pass. This area to be more precise:

We plan to iterate on the southern side with incoming updates. This will also include more collectibles for you to hunt down, as well as expand upon the narrative a bit to address some of the changes that have recently hit Östertörn.

There has also been feedback from the community about how these updates to the map have affected gameplay, mainly in relation to closing off houses. While we are aware of this, it was done to help address performance issues that were appearing in those affected areas. We are currently looking into different ways to be more strategic about this to avoid adverse effects in the future. As always, we’re ready to hear any level of detailed feedback and will have our eyes on communications channels.

Until next time,

-The Generation Zero Team

Letter from the Team - May 7th

Hello everyone and welcome to today’s special Letter from the Team where we are taking a closer look at our Accessibility options that were introduced with the Resistance Update.

Some of you might already have seen this new exciting tab in the Generation Zero main menu, but for you who didn’t we want to highlight these new improvements that we’ve made to the game to make it enjoyable for everyone. All these settings and more can be found in the Settings Menu under Accessibility!

Crosshair Recolouring
The crosshair in the hud can now be colored to whatever color you wish. Generation Zero also comes with a number of options that can be changed at any point during gameplay.

On the subject of Crosshairs, the new update also allows the player to choose between the current Dynamic crosshair or a static crosshair. This will allow you to set whether the crosshair adjusts its size when you are venturing across the world or if you prefer a more stationary appearance.

Text Size Adjustment
With this setting, you are able to change the size of the text used for the in-game text chat or the game’s subtitles.

Small

Medium

Large

Subtitle & Crosshair shadow
This option allows you to adjust the shadow you see on the crosshair when a weapon is drawn and when subtitles are displayed.

If there are other ways that you think we can improve the accessibility for Generation Zero, we are more than happy to know about it and would love your comments below.

The Resistance Update - Patch Notes

The Resistance Update is landing in the world of Generation Zero. This one is big and has been a long time coming. Base building is finally here and with it comes some brand new features and challenges in Östertörn. The best part about all these? Everything except the Soviet Weapons Pack is included in the base game for all resistance fighters to enjoy. This update releases today, May 4th, for PC and PS4, and is slated to release later this month for Xbox players.

To kick off your first defense missions, you’ll have to find your way to the northern part of the Forest Region and complete the “Good News” mission that triggers upon entering the area. Once completed, you’ll have access to the Command Center. It’s here you will stand your ground against the incoming machine horde.

Once initiated, you’ll need to gear up, build-out and prepare for the incoming fight. We will leave it to you and your fellow fighters to discover and explore what’s at your disposal to defend your new home base, and there will be more additions to your (stationary) arsenals as the year progresses.

Solid structures won't be the only way to defend your newly found command center. Every successful resistance evolves along with its enemies, even with its support equipment. Experimental weapons helped you get the upper hand, and experimental items could help you go on the offensive. With each successful defense of your base, you will find new consumable items to craft and explore. These range from alternative health packs, all the way to new ammo types.

Base building and new craftables are not the only additions to Generation Zero this month, as we’ve made extensive revamps to the forest region, adding more fun things to explore through environmental storytelling, as well as updating the challenge trees to include a new one related to base building.

Lastly, the Soviet Weapons Pack is also incoming as a paid addition to the game. With this weapons cache, you’ll find:

Kotenok Sniper Rifle - A reliable addition to your long-range loadouts
AT-WAD Assault Rifle - Built to surprise your enemies with silence, and rate of fire
RLG-7 Rocket Launcher - A powerful alternative to send highly explosive gifts to unsuspecting machines

These will come with attachments, of course. You will have to find which combinations work best for your fighting style.

It’s finally time to Build, Prepare, and Fight Back! See you all in Östertörn.

Letter from the Devs - April 30th

Hello Everyone!

As we move closer to our Resistance Update and the Soviet Weapons Pack release, we’ve got some mixed news for you today.

Now, if you tuned in to the GZ stream last week, you might have heard the news already, but if not, we are sad to share with you that the Xbox delay of the Resistance Update will be somewhat prolonged. In our last Letter from the Team, we mentioned this delay and were hoping for our certification issues to be solved, but there are no definite dates of when we might see this update going live, but we are aiming at the end of May. Rest assured that we as a team are doing everything we can to get this update to you as soon as possible! Keep an eye out on our Social Media channels where we will keep you informed of our progress.

Viewers of the Stream also got the chance to see a demo of our new Base Building feature, and as questions about the related Challenge Tree started to pop up, we thought we’d give you a little preview of it here in the letter.

This is what our Game Designer, Dr. Patrick, had to say about his creation. "Since we had planned for a bunch of various activities the player could engage in with this patch, I thought it would be the best approach to make each challenge focus on those activities, so the player would feel a bit more rewarded for trying them all out rather than only focusing on, for example, the base building aspect. I know a lot of work and thought had been made by our designers Amanda and Laura to bring the "messages in a bottle" to their full potential with some interesting bits of resistance lore. So I essentially thought we could help push the player into finding all of them if they knew there was an extra reward to be acquired on top".

Do you think you’ll be able to clear them all and claim the grand prize?

Until next time, stay out of trouble.

-The Generation Zero team
