Announcing the CS:GO Dreams & Nightmares Workshop contest

On July 22nd the CS:GO team is launching the $1 Million Dreams & Nightmares Workshop Contest.

We are looking for 10 original dream or nightmare-themed weapon finishes for CS:GO. Each of the 10 winning entries will earn $100,000. Beyond submitting your original weapon finish to the CS:GO Workshop, all you need to enter is a non-limited Steam account. And yes, teams of more than one person can also enter.

To help content creators get a better feel for what we’re looking for we’ve launched a dedicated web site for the contest. Here you will find more info on the types of finishes we’re looking for, examples of the Dreams & Nightmares theme, info on how to enter, details of the contest, and more. We've also created a sub forum in CS:GO's Discussions for artists, technical artists, and others to collaborate on contest-themed submissions and ideas.

We launched the Workshop on Steam almost 10 years ago in the hopes of creating a centralized hub for community created content. Since then, over five million content creators have submitted and published over 20 million new items for a variety of games on Steam, making them available to millions of gamers around the world. And, as everyone who plays these games knows – including CS players – many of the most iconic in-game items, maps, and more have been authored by members of the community. The Dreams & Nightmares Content Contest is designed to help further support this community.

If you have any questions or comments about the contest, please email us at csgoteamfeedback (at) valvesoftware (dot) com using the subject “Dreams & Nightmares.”

Get started today; submissions are due October 21, 2021!

Valve kicks off $1 million art contest for new Counter-Strike skins

"finish" is CS:GO’s official terminology for a skin: As defined at counter-strike.net, they "can be applied to a weapon and that weapon will have an appearance ranging from factory new to battle-scarred." Finishes can be just about anything, from solid colors to literal fire, and if you've got a cool idea for a new one, Valve might want to give you a whole lot of money for it...

CS:GO Major organiser "still hopes" the event can go ahead in Stockholm

PGL, the organiser behind the CS:GO Major, has said it's still hopeful that this year's event can go ahead as planned in Stockholm, Sweden, but has revealed that it's "in touch with two other European countries" that might be potential backups should anything change.

The PGL CS:GO Major in Stockholm is due to take place on October 23, with the big finale on November 7, and is set to be the first LAN Major since summer 2019. However, with the global pandemic still ongoing, rules around what can be hosted in Sweden have meant there are some questions hanging over the tournament. For example, the biggest event in the Dota 2 calendar - The International 10 - recently had to be moved to Bucharest, Romania from its original planned host city, Stockholm, due to Swedish officials deciding that esports could not be classified as 'elite sporting events'.

The organisation explains that it's currently "in direct discussions with the Swedish authorities and working together to find a solution to still host the PGL Major in Stockholm", and details some of the restrictions that the event might face, though it notes that these could potentially lift on September 15, depending on the state of things around the pandemic at that time.

PGL "still hopes" to host CS:GO Major in Sweden, confirms two backup hosts

The CS:GO Stockholm Major is set to be the first Counter-Strike major to be played on LAN since August 2019. However, with the Swedish government's tough stance on whether esports events should qualify as major sporting events, big questions have been raised as to whether Stockholm will actually be able to host the major at all.

With Dota 2's The International 10 already having to be delayed and relocated to Bucharest, Romania due to the Swedish government's stance on esports, many are expecting the CS:GO Major's organiser, PGL, to announce the same. However, in an update today, PGL says it is still trying to come to an arrangement to host the event in Stockholm, but confirms it has two backup countries that fit the requirement to play host if anything changes.

"For the city [Stockholm] to be the heart of Counter-Strike later this year, we have to stick to the initial terms of the project: we need to fly all the qualified players into Sweden and to entertain a large number of spectators inside the venue," PGL says in a statement. "The current restrictions in Sweden allow for only 300 spectators within the Avicii Arena, but these restrictions might be lifted after September 15, depending on the development of the COVID-19 pandemic.
