CS:GO major in spring 2021 reportedly cancelled by Valve

Valve has reportedly informed tournament organisers that the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive major scheduled for spring 2021 has been cancelled. According to an email obtained by HLTV, Valve confirms that the major, which was slated for May, will not go ahead.

Valve's correspondence with tournament organisers says that it is now putting its efforts into planning a major for October 2021. This will reportedly be at a "European venue" and a partner for the tournament has already been found. "Assuming it makes sense to proceed," Valve allegedly says in the email, "the event will take place October 25-November 7 with a potential play-in event October 23-24."

2020 has been major-less as the highly anticipated major in Rio de Janeiro was first pushed back from spring to fall, and then cancelled altogether due to the implications of the coronavirus pandemic. This most recent cancellation means it will have been over two years since the last CS:GO major, which was the StarLadder Berlin 2019 tournament that was won by Astralis.

G2 drops CS:GO veteran JaCkz

After three tournaments of trialling a six-man roster, G2 Esports has revealed the five-player squad that it will retain for future Counter-Strike Global Offensive competitions. The European organisation has decided to keep Frenchman François 'AmaNEk' Delaunay after the 27-year-old impressed during stages of the BLAST Premier Fall Series and at the DreamHack Masters Winter.

The decision now means countryman and fellow Counter-Strike veteran Audric 'JaCkz' Jug is benched. G2 confirms in a statement that JaCkz is still contracted to G2 but is allowed to explore other options. JaCkz was given his opportunity to fight for a spot on the roster during the IEM Beijing-Haidan tournament, at which G2 finished in the top four.

Despite the decent finish, team manager Jérôme 'NiaK' Sudries says in a statement that G2 "quickly realised that our system benefited more from [AmaNEk's] qualities." JaCkz has represented G2 for two years after joining from 3DMAX in November 2018.

League of Legends followed by over half of Dota 2 esports fans

A research group has surveyed around 80,000 esports fans about which competitive scenes they watch other than their favourite game, and the results show some unexpected results.

While two of the biggest esports, Dota 2 and League of Legends, lead the way for MOBAs in the esports scene, the two fanbases are often quite tribal when it comes to which is the best. However, according to the Observatoire du Sports Business, it turns out that over half of Dota 2 fans also follow League of Legends esports. Flipped the other way, only 21% of self-proclaimed LoL fans indulge themselves in Dota esports.

The highest crossover rate for two esports involves arguably the two biggest competitive games in the world. The study finds that 60% of Counter-Strike Global Offensive fans also follow League of Legends esports, despite the two being completely different genres. A slightly lower 59% of CS:GO fans also watch rival MOBA and fellow Valve title, Dota 2.
