YouTuber designs fake cheat software to troll would-be CS:GO hackers

YouTuber 'ScriptKid' has come up with an ingenious way to troll would-be Counter-Strike: Global Offensive cheaters, by uploading fake cheating software to trick players seeking to gain an unfair advantage into dying in hilarious ways.

ScriptKid recorded a game of someone who had downloaded their software, and watched as the cheater ended up randomly jumping off the map and falling to their death. The software is "designed to backfire," ScriptKid explains, meaning the cheater won't realise they're being trolled until it's too late.

The software is designed to look like a real cheat client, but if someone tries to use it in a ranked match, it will "mess with their game in unexpected and funny ways." Jumping off a roof is just one example; the software can also lock doors, set off grenades beneath a cheater's feet, trigger 'drunken movement', slow down their movement, or much more. This software works by installing 'trip wires' across the map.

The Rio CS:GO Major has finally been cancelled

It's finally official: Valve and ESL have cancelled the Rio 2020 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major. The tournament, which was scheduled to take place in Brazil in November, has now been cancelled due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement released today, ESL says it worked hard on "alternative options" but that it was forced to "face the fact that the global situation does not allow for a Major to take place." This now leads fans without a Major for the first time in seven years.

However, the news has hardly come as a surprise. Like many countries worldwide, Brazil has struggled to cope with coronavirus, recording a total of 4.18 million cases to date, 5.57% of which originated in Rio. Despite being postponed once before, ESL says its remains committed to bringing a Major event to Brazil again in the future.

CS:GO update brings a batch of changes to Anubis and Mutiny maps

Two of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive's maps have received a fresh batch of updates. Developer Valve has posted patch notes for a new update that introduces a bunch of tweaks and tinkerings to the CS:GO maps Anubis and Mutiny, which were both added to some of the FPS game's official matchmaking pools earlier this year.

For Anubis, the studio has introduced changes to the map's spawn points, as well as some visual changes and a handful of bug fixes. The Ancient Egyptian temple-inspired Anubis map's spawn points have been shifted "slightly apart from each other" to enable "better movement". The dev has also added some grenade clips onto "short A for smoothing bouncing" as well as fixed some minor "nitpicking stuff" on the multiplayer game's radar. It's not quite clear what this stuff is from the notes, but it sounds like a little tidy-up to improve clarity.

The map's various bug fixes address hiccups with things like "invisible prop faces, gun falling through props, floating props, invisible brush faces, [and] props z-fighting" the developer says in the notes.

HenryG becomes Cloud9's CS:GO general manager, appoints Kassad as coach

After Cloud9 revealed yesterday that it would begin another restructuring of its Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team, changes are already coming thick and fast. Former caster Henry 'HenryG' Greer will become the org's general manager for CS:GO, while Aleksandar "Kassad" Trifunovic will serve as coach.

HenryG has confirmed that Kassad was appointed by him as the first building block for Cloud9's restructure. Kassad comes to the job with experience from mousesports, Renegades, and 100 Thieves, and HenryG clearly sees him as the man to take Cloud9 where they want to go. As for who specifically Kassad will be coaching, we still don't know.

As part of the recently announced restructuring, it was confirmed that the entire roster was set to be dropped. Along with appointing Kassad, HenryG's job will be to fill that roster, and he revealed on Twitter that he's just getting started. "The five man roster is not finalised and I still have seats available," he says.
