Phasmophobia's August update drops today with two new ghost types

Exciting news, Phasmophobia fans - the ghost game's big August update is headed our way later today with a whole bunch of new content in tow, including two Phasmophobia ghost types, some equipment to try out, and other bits and pieces.

First up, the when. Kinetic Games has announced on the game's Discord server and Twitter channel that Phasmophobia's August update droops tonight (August 26) at 7pm BST - so that's 2pm ET / 11am PT if you're based in the US. Now, the what. Following those recent teases, we have indeed got two new ghost types dropping with the patch, and it turns out some fans were absolutely spot on about which ones they'd be. The new ghosts will be the Myling and Goryo - a creepy child spirit from Scandinavian folklore and a vengeful aristocratic ghost from Japanese mythology, respectively.

There aren't many clues from Kinetic about how these spirits will play just yet, though we've got a few hints from the recent notebook image tease (above), which indicates what some of their strengths, weaknesses, and evidence types might be. But we only have a few more hours on the clock before we get to find out for ourselves.

Phasmophobia devs are teasing new ghosts and fans already have theories

The team behind Phasmophobia, Kinetic Games, is teasing two new ghosts that are coming to harass would-be hunters in the game - and players are already building theories about what these spirits are. Furthermore, it looks like players will need a new type of equipment to deal with them.

Developer Kinetic Games promised "big things ahead" in a tweet a couple of weeks ago for fans of Phasmophobia, but it was light on details - that was literally the entirety of the tweet, those three words. We already know the team is planning a "large overhaul" of the game, along with a re-balance of difficulty, but other than a new evidence type a lot of the upcoming August update in the development Trello is 'redacted'.

The new tease, as posted on Twitter, shows two new spirit types from the ghost hunter's diary - with a lot of words blurred out, including the names and a piece of new equipment. However, at least a few letters can generally be made out, and that's enough to set internet sleuths on the case.

Phasmophobia's upcoming equipment overhaul looks especially spooky

Thank goodness we're now well past the point of me apologising for still talking about a game from last Halloween and into the part of the year where I'll be unapologetically looking forward to this Halloween. Phasmophobia, the co-op ghost sleuthing simulation that I've yet to stop playing since last year, is getting a sizable update this month as spooky season creeps closer. There are even more new ghosts coming, redesigns for tons of your equipment, and "sprinting adjustments" which I believe must mean I'll be hoofing it out of houses faster than the current crawl.

Phasmophobia devs tease "big things ahead" for the horror game

Looks like there's something - or some things even - important on the horizon for Phasmophobia. Developer Kinetic Games has tweeted a tease on the horror game's Twitter channel that suggests it'll be worth keeping a weather eye on the studio's channels, as it looks there'll be some exciting news to come in the not-too-distant future.

"Big things ahead," Kinetic has tweeted, along with a Phasmophobia hashtag. That's it - just that one little hint - so we're completely in the dark (heh) about what these big things might be right now. We can of course see on the game's public Trello board that there's some other exciting content to come, such as a bunch of reworks for things like progression, objectives, levelling, equipment, and difficulty - the latter of which we reported on following a dev Discord Q&A a few weeks back.

There are also things in the backlog, like a core systems overhaul, "horror 2.0" (new ghost events, death animations, and the like), and other bits. But, as we know from before, the team at Kinetic doesn't always put everything on the Trello board, so there can be some big surprises in store for players.
