Sneak Peek #2 - New dinosaurs and many other improvements coming!

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

In this sneak peek article we will shed light on our future plans regarding the game. These improvements we plan to do in the coming patches. Thank you all for the feedback you’ve given so far!

All images you see in this post are work in progress images and are subject to change.
New dinosaur species: Carnotaurus, Giganotosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Pachycephalosaurus, ...
We want to add more dinosaur species living on the island. Currently we are planning on adding two carnivores: Giganotosaurus and Carnotaurus. And two herbivores: Parasaurolophus and Pachycephalosaurus. And a new flying dinosaur: Thalassodromeus. We’ll also add other undeclared species.
Reworked dinosaur visuals
We are remaking dinosaur looks and animations for Brachiosaurus, Triceratops and Ankylosaurus. The new visuals offer greater realism, more detail and improved animations.
Rare dinosaurs
All current dinosaur species will get rare variations. These are recognized from their skin that differs from the main population. Rare variations of dinosaurs are tougher to hunt. Hunting rare dinos will provide better rewards but they are much harder to find than the regular dinosaurs of their species.
Environment improvement
Environment will become richer in variance including rivers and different types of biomes.
Dinosaur spawns rework
We want to improve the way dinosaurs spawn on the island. We’ve already come up with a solution to spawn dinosaurs all over the map and make them move although the player isn’t near them. This also greatly improves multiplayer as the whole island is filled with dinosaurs and all players encounter dinosaurs consistently. Here is a screenshot from our testing map view showing how dinosaurs are all over the map in this improved spawn version:
Dinosaur behavior improvements
We want to improve the overall behavior of the dinosaurs. We want to add more territorial behaviour so dinos are not moving all over the map all the time. We will make adjustments to their aggressiveness too.
Hunting atmosphere improvement
Player will get information in HUD how stealthy he is. We add one symbol to show how much noise the player is making and another to show how visible he is. These mechanisms were already in the game, this visual guide will just make it more clear for players. We have done minor improvements to dinosaur detection logic.

We are also going to make the ambience sounds more dynamic to provide a more vivid experience.

Multiple other improvements will also be introduced in the coming patches.

Thank you for reading and we look forward to hearing your feedback.

Patch Notes 0.84 - Mechanics Update

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

Thank you for all the feedback you’ve given! In this patch we address many things we’ve gotten feedback on after the latest patch. Let us know what you think of the changes. Remember also to visit our public Trello and vote for things you’d like to see in the game: https://trello.com/b/MaUlmNql/prehistoric-hunt-public-trello
Hunting buddies
Now all your Steam friends are by default your hunting buddies. This means when you join the same multiplayer session you will spawn closer to each other. Previously you had to add your Steam friends manually as your hunting buddies from the player list menu. If you want to remove a Steam friend from your hunting buddies you can still do it in the player list menu (default key bind for player list menu is P). We also fixed an issue with hunting buddy spawn location when players have moved from their original spawn location.
Player respawn improvements
Once players die they no longer can respawn right on top of dinosaurs. This will prevent players from entering into a dying loop.

In the previous patch we introduced a mechanism when players die they drop half of their inventory. We changed it so the inventory will go down to three items in the worst case scenario. If a player has any ammunition at least one of these three will be a set of ammunition. So if you die and you only have three items left in your inventory you won’t drop anything. Equipped weapons (in weapon slots 1, 2 and 3) will always stay with you and are not calculated to this total. In these screenshots you’ll find a full inventory and one possibility of a worst case scenario:
Dinosaur behavior improvements
• Herbivores no longer panic when Utahraptors are near.
 • Utahraptors no longer attack the bigger herbivores.
 • Herbivores no longer do group attacks on players.
 • Herbivores are less aggressive towards players when they are in panic caused by chasing carnivores.
 • Dinosaurs notice a player who uses the flashlight from a greater distance. This distance is even greater during night time.
 • Dinosaurs now hear sounds the player makes when reloading or changing weapons and can react to this.
Other updates
• More loot spawn points have been added
 • Death markers are now displayed over special location markers
 • Player can no longer get stuck in shallow water

Raptor Update 0.83

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

Check out this trailer of the newest dinosaur species in Prehistoric Hunt:

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Note! This update makes changes to player death behavior. And you will unfortunately lose most of your current ammunition. This is a one time thing caused by change in inventory system. Read these patch notes before you play!

In this update we add another dinosaur species to the island: Utahraptor. We’d like to hear your feedback, you can chat with us on Discord or give feedback straight in the game.
Utahraptor
Utahraptors join the carnivorous dinosaurs of the island. They are quick moving and dangerous dinosaurs. They usually move in packs. Utahraptors might start hunting you if they spot you. You will recognize them from their distinct calls.
Dinosaur AI improvement
Dinosaurs can now move in groups, alert other dinos and behave more as a group and not always as an individual.
Player death behavior change
When players die they will lose half of their inventory! But don’t worry, you can get your stuff back. You just need to travel to the point where you died and find your lost stuff on the ground. You’ll find the spot where you died on the map view. Multiple death markers will be displayed if a player dies often. Death markers will disappear after 30 minutes.

The harder hunting contracts now have a condition that the player needs to stay alive in order to complete the contracts. You can identify the hard contracts with the skeleton icon. If a player dies while having a hard contract active it will disappear after respawn losing all progress. This will challenge players to stay alive while hunting!
Environment
Various bushes have been added to the map. These will provide more hiding places for players. The Terrain now utilizes tesselation for much improved detail.
Player character customization
Players can now customize the look of their game character with different hats. Hats are unlocked by achieving achievements.
Tyrannosaurus Rex
T-Rex will spot the player from greater distance when the player is not trying to hide. T-Rex hp was slightly increased. T-rex uses more effort to find nearby players it has sensed. New sounds have been added for T-Rex.
Settings updates
Keys are now rebindable. Motion blur can be toggled on and off in the main menu. Invert mouse can be toggled on and off in the main menu.
Inventory update
Item amounts are now saved on game servers, so ammo counts now stay the same between sessions. You will lose most of your ammunition during this transition. A sort button has been added to the inventory. Fixed an issue with dropping items from the vicinity. We also fixed some issues with items in multiplayer.
Other updates
• Weapon blur has been removed
 • Compsognathus attack distance has been adjusted to be more in line with its size
 • Dinosaur organ view no longer breaks on non 16:9 aspect ratios
 • Fixed a spawn point where player fell underground
 • Fixed and adjusted tree colliders
 • Returning to the main menu from multiplayer sessions no longer causes the game to bug
 • 18 new Steam achievements have been added
 • Added more sounds to dinosaurs and improved dinosaur footstep sounds

Thank you for reading and we look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Patch notes 0.82 - Loot boxes

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

Here is the content of our latest patch. We’d like to hear your feedback, you can chat with us on Discord or give feedback straight in the game.
Loot boxes
Players can now find loot boxes on the island. They contain different kinds of equipment that help with hunting: Ammunition, medkits and new stamina boost items.

Loot box locations are not shown on the map so in order to find one player will need to watch for these things: When a player is within vicinity of a loot box a loot box icon will appear in the compass showing direction to the loot box. Players can also pick up the faint beeping sounds the loot box makes.
Co-op & Spawn Improvement
You can now add a player to your hunting buddies in the player list in-game. This way you will spawn closer to your friends when you play, so you don’t have to travel across the island to play together. Hunting buddies are added through the team select menu (keyboard P). Right click on your new pal and click “Add buddy”. If you want to remove a hunting buddy you can use the same menu to remove a buddy. More spawn points have also been added to the map.
Stamina
Stamina now charges and consumes faster. When players stand still stamina charges even faster.

An indicator has been added to the stamina bar when players are not able to use stamina for sprints: The icon next to the stamina bar will flash red when players can’t use stamina. These situations happen when players have used all of their stamina or held breath for aiming. Waiting for a bit will enable players to use stamina again.
Stamina boost item: Energy pack
Players are now able to buy in shops or find in loot boxes new items: Energy packs. Players can consume energy packs whenever they have a need for better stamina. The boost affects both stamina regeneration and consumption. One boost lasts for a maximum of 1 minute. Boost length depends on the condition of the energy pack. This you can check in your inventory. The energy packs you buy from shops always have full load in them (100) but the ones you find in loot boxes might not have (100 or less).

To consume an energy pack open inventory, right click on the energy pack and click Use. Now start to sprint you will see an energy pack icon next to the stamina bar flashing yellow. Once the icon disappears the boost stops.
Dinosaur AI
When Tyrannosaurus Rex hears a gunshot nearby it no longer moves directly to that location. Instead it might come nearby smelling it’s potential prey (you :) ). Your actions dictate more the outcome.
Other improvements
• Players can now change weapons with mouse scroll
 • Helicopter collection happens faster and with less noise
 • New jump sounds were added to player character
 • Crouch can be set to be toggle or hold crouch in the menu
 • Pteranodon now make distant roars making finding them easier
 • Fixed Pteranodon getting stuck in trees

Thank you for reading and we look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Merry Christmas! (And a small patch!)

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

The dev team wishes you a Merry Christmas! ːsteamhappyː

We also did a minor patch on top of 0.81 version with the following updates:
New type of hunting contracts: Integrity
Players are now able to get contracts which have integrity requirements. The integrity contract conditions are harder to fulfill but when completed reward more experience and credits than regular contracts. Integrity contracts are available to players starting from player level 3.

Integrity calculation takes into account which parts players have hit the dinosaurs. Used weapons are not taken into account. The easier integrity contracts require 80% integrity. The harder contracts require 100% integrity. Rewards have been adjusted based on difficulty. The hardest is the “Perfect Tyrannosaurus Rex” integrity contract that requires 100% integrity with a T-Rex. The dev team’s greatest success was to get one with 93% integrity, we are sure you can do better!
