Prehistoric Hunt Dev Blog #10 - Tranquilizing dinosaurs

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

Read through this week's development blog to find out what we've worked on during the past week.

TRANQUILIZED DINOSAURS

Instead of using regular firearms players can now use a tranquilizer gun to put dinosaurs to sleep. It varies per dinosaur how hard it is to get the dinosaurs to sleep. And you need to hit them in the right spots to get a quicker effect. Tranquilizer gun houses only one tranquilizer dart in the magazine so players will have to reload after every shot. Things can get rough if a bad hit is scored and the dinosaur just keeps coming to you ...

Tranquilizer guns are now also available for purchase in the equipment shop. With them players need to use tranquilizer darts as ammo. They can also be purchased from the equipment shop.

HUNTING CONTRACTS FOR TRANQUILIZED DINOSAURS

Players can now do hunting contracts where the dinosaurs need to be delivered alive. They work in the same manner as regular hunting contracts except helicopters are called to move tranquilized dinosaurs.

MAP

Players can now zoom in and out in the map view. This gives players the ability to explore the surrounding land in more detail before deciding where to go next.

CONTROLLER SUPPORT

We’ve implemented first version of controller support for the game. Players can now move in menus with controller and do basic actions in the game using a controller.

Thank you for reading and we look forward to hearing what your thoughts are on the game.

Prehistoric Hunt Dev Blog #9 - Advanced dinosaur tracking

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

Read through this week's development blog to find out what we've worked on during the past week.

TRACKING

Tracking feature has been developed further. Players now get much more information out of tracks: How old the tracks are, what dinosaur left them, what is the condition of the dinosaur and how it was moving.

After inspecting tracks players can now also see in the map in which area the dinosaur possibly could have moved after leaving the track.

MEDKIT

A new item has been added to the game: medkit. It is available for purchase in the equipment shop.

Players can use the medkit by opening inventory and clicking the medkit there. This will instantly bring back some lost health.

BRIGHTNESS SETTING

Brightness setting has been added to the game. It can be found from the in game menu.

Thank you for reading and we look forward to hearing what your thoughts are on the game.

Prehistoric Hunt Dev Blog #8 - Helicopter collection of dinosaurs

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

Read through this week's development blog to find out what we've worked on during the past week.

HELICOPTER COLLECTION OF DINOSAURS

Here is a video showing footage of the unfinished dinosaur collection system we are currently developing:

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

The system works currently like this: When players finish a hunting contract a helicopter comes to pick up the dinosaur. This functionality is not yet finished and we’ll keep developing it.

DINOSAUR BEHAVIOR

Herbivores have been adjusted to be less aggressive towards players by default. We've also improved their pathfinding so dinos are less likely to behave in an illogical manner.

NAVIGATION IMPROVEMENT

Players can now activate a guide to a contract device location. This will show up in the HUD within the compass showing players the correct direction to the contract device and how far away they currently are from the device in meters. This will make it easier to find your way as you don’t have to constantly open up the separate map view to check if you’re going in the right direction.

BUG FIXES

We got multiple reports of crashes when players tried to respawn. This problem has now been fixed and the respawn happens a lot quicker than before.

Thank you for reading and we look forward to hearing what your thoughts are on the game.

Prehistoric Hunt Dev Blog #7 - Ammunition system

Our game is currently having a free demo on Steam. It lasts until 13th of October. Go check it out if you already haven’t!

Thank you for all the feedback you’ve already given us! Based on these we are currently working on improvements: Making the game run better, improving brightness settings, adjusting the pov and many more.

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

Read through this week's development blog to find out what we've worked on during the past week.

HUNTING CONTRACTS

Communication devices that players can use to get hunting contracts have now a lot more content. We’ve added many different contracts from which players can select the one they’d like to do. Within the contracts players also find basic information of the dinosaur they need to hunt. When a contract is activated it will show up in the HUD showing the current status of contract completion.

Once a contract is completed the player is rewarded with credits. These can now be utilized in equipment shop to buy new equipment.

EQUIPMENT SHOP

Players can now shop for new equipment. The shop is located within the same communication device players use to get hunting contracts.

Shop currently sells ammunition for all available guns and three guns: Hunting rifle, revolver and 50 cal rifle.

AMMUNITION

We’ve now introduced a simple ammunition system to the game. This means players no longer have unlimited ammunition. Currently there are two types of ammunition in the game: Rifle ammunition for all rifles and pistol ammunition for all pistols. Players can buy more ammunition from the equipment shop. This is phase one implementation of the ammunition system. Later we will implement separate ammunition types per weapon to make it more realistic.

DINOSAUR SOUNDS

Dinosaurs now make sounds also from a greater distance. This makes it easier for the player to find dinosaurs. In addition multiple new sounds have been added to different dinosaurs.

Thank you for reading and we look forward to hearing what your thoughts are on the game.

Try Prehistoric Hunt for free during Steam Game Festival Autumn Edition!

As the game is still undergoing development we'd like to hear your opinion how we are doing so far. Are you seeing things you like in the game? Is there something we could improve? Please let us know! :)

We look forward to hearing what your thoughts are on the game.
