The first anniversary update has been released!

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

The first anniversary update has landed! The update brings multiple improvements to the game like dinosaur callers and tracking devices. Read on to find out what other improvements were included.
Callers
Callers are now available for purchase in the shop. When used they make a sound to lure a specific dinosaur species to your area. Dinosaurs may respond to calls. These species now have their own caller items:
 • Brachiosaurus
 • Ankylosaurus
 • Triceratops
 • Gallimimus
 • Iguanodon
 • Pachycephalosaurus
 • Compsognathus
Tracking device & tracking device contracts
Tracking devices are used to track a dinosaur with a tracer. You will get the device for free when completing a new mission. In case you lose your tracking device it’s available for purchase in the shop.

A new contract type has been created called tracking device contracts. In these contracts you need to hunt a single dinosaur which has a tracer. The dinosaur species might be known or unknown. When you activate a tracking device contract you’ll see the potential location in your map like with other contracts. Tracking device will start showing direction to the tracer once you’re near enough. When you are very near to the dinosaur the device will start to make a beep in addition to the screen refresh sound. When you have a tracking device equipped or in your inventory you will be suggested tracking contracts.
Auto walk / run
Auto walk / run is for the player what cruise control is for a car driver. Auto walk can be activated by hitting C (default key binding). You can then hit SHIFT to toggle between auto walk and auto run. In auto run mode players are always kept with over 50% stamina to be ready for surprise encounters. The character will run until 50% stamina is left and replenish stamina a while by walking before automatically taking another sprint. While auto move is on turns can be made with A and D keys. Auto walk / run can be stopped at any time with normal movement keys. This mechanism can also be used while crouched. When auto movement is active an icon is displayed on the screen.
Night length setting
A new setting has been introduced when creating a game with which you can control the length of the night. There are three options available: Short, medium and long.
Other improvements
• A new mission that will reward the player with tracking device
 • Four different types of contracts can now be activate at the same time: carnivore, herbivore, tranquilization and tracking device
 • Improved ocean rendering
 • Two new equipment slots have been added making the total amount of slots three. The new ones are number 5 and 6. These can be used to equip binoculars, callers or tracking devices.
 • More available contracts are unlocked on certain level ups. At level 4 you can see 4 contracts and at level 8 5 contracts available at a time.
 • Added binoculars to be purchasable in the shop in case a player lost them. Remember that you can get these for free when completing the second “Stocking up” mission.
 • Stamina no longer replenishes while player is holding breath
 • We've altered the logic of hosting a server to improve performance on all setups. This should prevent the game from kicking players back to the menu when you start a server on a pc with a slower hard drive.
 • Trophy ratings will affect how much credits and xp a kill grants. A diamond kill is worth a lot more than a bronze kill.
 • Improved third person animations
 • Contract and trophy claim screen now has a scrollbar
 • Adjusted shotgun integrity reduction to be in same level with other weapons
 • Utahraptors and Compsognathus no longer use the smallest bushes for cover
 • New achievements for gold and diamond trophy kills
 • Using mouse scroll is now possible in shop
Bug fixes
• When dying and reloading weapons won’t go into weird states after respawn
 • Players are no longer inside cabin floor when fast travelling to cabin
 • A weapon duplication bug involving storage box
 • Improved Pteranodon sync to prevent them doing turkey flights in multiplayer
 • Players falling into water no longer teleport long distances but are instead returned to last near safe position
 • Fast travel vendor’s helicopter icon stuck on screen
 • Fighting carnivores less likely to get stuck on obstacles
 • Some locations were missing storage box icons
 • Fix for Rex carrying around carcasses of dinosaurs it has killed
 • Some dinosaurs spinning fixed
 • VSync setting wasn’t saved
 • Dinosaur location helper wasn’t updated correctly when doing tranquilization contracts
 • Carnotaurus is now able to take down all dinos it attacks

Thank you and we look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Development Blog #16

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

We are working on multiple improvements you can expect to see in the next patch. We are planning to create an anniversary update to celebrate the Early Access inception a year ago. All images are work in progress images and are subject to change.

Many of these improvement items are a result of your feedback. We want to hear your opinion and shape the game based on the feedback you give us.
Callers
We are working on different kinds of hunting callers. They make a sound that can be used to bait certain dinosaur species to your area. Dinosaur species have different kinds of callers. These items will be available in the shop. We are planning to add more equipment slots for these items. Here are some examples what we’ve created so far:
Tracking device
Tracking device is used to track a certain dinosaur. This will enable contracts where it is required to kill or tranquilize a specific dinosaur. These contracts will have higher rewards over regular contracts.
Auto walk / run
We are developing an auto walk / run to help players with long hikes. Current plan is that the auto run would keep players always over 50% stamina to be ready for surprise encounters. The character would run until 50% stamina is left and replenish stamina a while by walking before automatically taking another sprint.
Other improvements
• Adding binoculars to be purchasable in the shop in case a player lost them. Remember that you can get these for free when completing the second “Stocking up” mission.
 • We've altered the logic of hosting a server to improve performance on all setups. This should prevent the game from kicking players back to the menu when you start a server on a pc with a slower hard drive.
 • Trophy ratings will start to affect how much credits and xp a kill grants. A diamond kill is worth a lot more than a bronze kill.
Bug fixes
We will fix reported bugs in the next update. Thank you for your reports. As always you can keep reporting and we will investigate those findings further.

These were some of the features you will be seeing in the next update.

Thank you for reading and we look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Cretaceous Update has been released!

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

Cretaceous update is now available! We thank you for your patience and wish you find the long list of improvements pleasing :) Thank you for all the feedback we’ve gotten and we’d like to know what you think of the update!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Reworked dinosaur AI with new behaviours
Dinosaur AI has been reworked and it has made these improvements possible. In the future the new AI system will make it easier to do further improvements.
Carnivores fighting each other
If two carnivores end up in the same territory they might start fighting each other in order to defend their territory.
Pteranodon rework
Pteranodon now fly in more irregular flight paths making hitting them a lot harder. If a player hits them while they are charging they will abandon the attack.
Compsognathus and Utahraptors hide
Both Compsognathus and Utahraptors may hide and commence a surprise attack on the player.
New animations & behaviour for carnivores taking down herbivores
Animations have been improved for carnivores that hunt herbivores. Carnivores may eat the herbivores' carcasses.
Three new dinosaurs: Carnotaurus, Gallimimus and Pachycephalosaurus
Three new dinosaurs from the cretaceous period join the game!
Carnotaurus
Carnotaurus is a large carnivorous dinosaur that’s both fast and deadly. Instead of using just their teeth they might ram the player using their horned heads. You might encounter more than just one of them at the same time!
Gallimimus
This ostrich-like herbivorous dinosaur likes to move in herds and it’s likely you’ll spot many of them at once. Once they are running from danger they are fast and challenging to hit.
Pachycephalosaurus
Pachy is a small and agile herbivorous dinosaur with a uniquely thick skull roof. This gives it the ability to knock down players using it’s powerful head.
New weapon: .700 double rifle
The new double rifle is the most powerful weapon in the game. It is a little different from other weapons as you can fire two barrels rapidly with great force but you have to reload every two shots. It has iron sights. It has its own ammo type.
Dinosaur ragdolls
All dinosaurs now have ragdolls. It means they now react in a more dynamic way when they die. They tumble down cliffs more naturally.
Dinosaur hit reactions
When a dinosaur is hit it will react based on how badly it was hit. If a player scores a great hit it will slow down the dinosaur giving the player much needed time to secure more shots in.
Environment updates
• Rock formations have been added
 • New scenery items have been added
 • All bushes and undergrowth have been color adjusted
 • Many textures have been adjusted and redone
 • Some really steep hills in the eastern part of the island were removed and the land there rebuilt
Hunt score & leaderboard
• Each killed dinosaur will provide a hunting score
 • Different parameters will affect the score and the player gets to see those by hovering the score
 • There are also trophy score categories for each score: None, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond
 • The trophy screen also shows more clearly the different shots the dinosaur was hit with.
 • New leaderboards were added for scores. All dinosaurs have their own leaderboards.
Story items
Almost 20 story items have been added. They are part of two different storylines. Story items will show in your compass once you’re near them. There will be some reference points with each item making it easier to spot them.
Storage area
Storage area is a new vendor at special locations where you’ll be able to store extra equipment that wouldn’t fit your inventory. You are able to access the same storage area content in each special location.
Contract improvements
• Once you’ve activated a contract you will spot an orange circle in your map. This circle indicates Preton Corporation giving the hunter data of the wanted dinosaur's location. The circle location is updated from time to time based on dinosaur movement.
 • Unsubmitted contracts are no longer lost if player quits without submitting them
Shotgun pellet shot
To differentiate the shotgun from other weapons we have created a new ammo type for it. The ammo was changed from slug (single projectile like rest of the weapons) to buckshot. One buckshot will contain five smaller pellets that will slightly spread. All ammo you have for a shotgun will instantly change from slug to buckshot type. From the hit information screen you’ll be able to see how many pellets of each shotgun shot hit their target and which organs the pellets hit.
Mod support
Mod support works now with a configuration file where you can set properties for guns (damage, kick, bullet speed etc.), spawn limits for dinosaurs and properties for dinosaurs. You can activate a mod in the game menu. Please note that when you’re playing a mod it doesn’t give you experience etc. because the mod will be played in offline mode. For now mods are only supported in solo play,
Inventory & shop improvements
• You can now equip & swap weapons with drag & drop
 • In the shop you’ll see how many items you already have in inventory and storage box.
UI improvements
• Player gets notification when a new location has been selected to compass in map view
 • A guiding text has been added to fast travel usage view
Weapon improvements
• Tranquilizer rifle is now better animated in hand
 • All bullets travel faster to target for more response gun gameplay
 • Damage fall off adjusted for guns. Long shots now won’t have too reduced damage
 • New gun and ammo icons
 • Added gun spread when shooting from hip
 • Gun animation update when holding breath
Other improvements
• Dinosaurs now have new distant call sounds that can be heard even further away than before
 • Dinosaurs have gender which is displayed in the trophy screen
 • Dinosaurs turn their heads
 • Loot box content was buffed
 • The new environment is now faster loaded in fast travel
 • Head bob while player is running
 • More player respawn points
 • More dinosaur spawn points
 • No more weird looking red wood trees
 • Gameplay settings are now same in in-game menu and main menu
 • Server logic updates for more consistent inventory management
 • Added Finnish language support
 • Controller support improvement
 • Adjusted dinosaur sizes
 • Toggle crouch is now on by default
 • Added EULA
Bug fixes
• Fixed game crashing if you tranquilized Pteranodon
 • Fixed inventory drop in the cave.
 • Stash bug fixed
 • Some dinosaurs had smaller render distances. This has been fixed.
 • Player can’t scope during reloading anymore

Thank you and we look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Development Blog #15

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

We are working on Pachycephalosaurus and giving more life to dinosaurs fighting each other. These improvements you can expect to see in the next patch. All images are work in progress images and are subject to change.

Thank you all for the feedback you’ve given so far! It helps us a lot to find some of the nastier bugs and also gives a lot of good feature ideas we can implement in the game.
Dinosaurs fighting each other
We are working on improvements to animations when carnivores hunt down herbivores. Also work is ongoing to include carnivores fighting each other if they find each other in the same territory.
Pachycephalosaurus
Pachy is a small herbivorous dinosaur with a uniquely thick skull roof. This gives it the ability to knock down players using it’s powerful head.
Score for kills
We are creating a score for each dinosaur kill. We’ll also include a leaderboard.
Mod support
We have started to implement mod support. At first there will be a configuration file where you can set properties for guns (damage, kick, bullet speed etc.), spawn limits for dinosaurs and properties for dinosaurs.
Environment
Work continues with improving the look of the environment.
Bug fixes
Here are some examples of bug fixes that will be incorporated in the next patch.
 • Game crashes if you tranquilize Pteranodon. It’s advisable not to try to tranq them before we release the next patch!
 • If you drop your inventory in the cave it will not appear in your position. Until this is fixed you can find items on top of the cave. After the next patch it will be dropped where it should be.
 • Some dinosaurs had smaller render distances. This has been fixed.

These were some of the features that you will be seeing in the next update.

Thank you for reading and we look forward to hearing your thoughts.
