Open testing for upcoming major update!

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

Open testing of the upcoming major update is now available! If you want to help us locate any possible issues and give feedback before the release you can try out the test build.

The included screenshots have been taken using the latest test build.

Things to take into account before starting testing

The open testing version of the game utilizes different server. You won’t be using the same player in the test version but start from zero with a fresh player. Once you move back to the main server you will continue progress with your existing account and lose any progress made in the test server.

Before you start transferring your game into the open testing mode please make a backup of your player.txt file. It can be found in %steamlibrary_folder%/Prehistoric Hunt/Prehistoric_Hunt_Data/player.txt . The file contains your trophy lodge setup and it will be overwritten if you don’t take a backup. Once you move back from the test version to the actual game you can copy this backup file back to it’s original location.

Please note that when you have the test build active you cannot launch the actual game. When you want to switch back to it in the Betas-menu you will need to choose ‘None’ to get back. You can freely switch between the versions.

Instructions how to get the test version

Right click the game name in Steam library list view and choose ‘Properties’. Then choose tab ‘Betas’. From the dropdown choose “public_test”. Steam will now download the test version and you’ll see in your library view instead of “Prehistoric Hunt” name “Prehistoric Hunt [public_test].

New things to test

As the next update will feature the graphics overhaul we’d like to get feedback how the new system runs on your setups. Overall feedback on the update is also welcome. We have still time to make alterations on content based on your feedback.

Wounded dinosaur visuals

Dinosaurs that have been gotten damage from other dinosaurs will show blood on their skin making it easier to identify wounded dinosaurs.

Happy New Year to everyone! ːsteamhappyː

Trophy shots

Want a photo with your catch? Now you can do it with the new trophy shot feature. Trophy shots can be initiated in the trophy menu by clicking “Trophy shot”.

HUD will guide you to all controls available. You can freely move the camera and then with right click toggle to moving the dinosaur. You can then drag different body parts and freeze them into positions you like. You can also move your player character in similar way. You can have different equipment in hand, just equip it before going to the trophy shot menu.

You can take as many trophy shots with your prey as you like. Trophy shots are stored as Steam screenshots making sharing them in Steam easy. You can also find them on your hard drive by right clicking the screenshot in Steam and choosing “Browse to screenshot” or by browsing to %game_install_directory%\Prehistoric_Hunt_Data\screenshots .

Trophy shots work in multiplayer too, you can have your friends in the photos. The corpse movement is not synced to other players when moving the ragdoll.

New skin type: Piebald

All dinosaurs have a new skin variation called piebald. Piebald dinosaurs can be recognized from their spotty skin which looks like it’s missing color in some parts. It is a very rare skin type to encounter.

Now all skin types in order of rarity are:
 • Common
 • Rare
 • Piebald
 • Melanistic
 • Albino

Dinosaur ragdolls improvements

Many different improvements were made to dinosaur ragdolls to make them work better in trophy shots. Ragdolls clip less inside terrain keeping most parts above terrain. Carnivores jaws move and can be adjusted in trophy shots. Limbs in general move better.

The Second Anniversary Update has been released!

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

The game launched in Early Access two years ago and what better way to celebrate this than with a fresh update! We enjoy developing the game and are grateful to our great community for your support and feedback! Let’s keep going!

The key things in this update are tents and flares. Read through the patch notes to find what else is included!

Tents: Skip the night

In tents players can skip the night. Tent have been placed in fixed locations including the existing special locations and the new locations included in the update. Some of the special locations don’t have a tent and instead you can find a bed where to sleep. Tents can be used during nighttime to change the time to morning. Usage is free of charge.

Tents work in multiplayer too: All players will need to express will to skip the night. When the first player accesses a tent other players will get a notification that a player wants to sleep. When all players are within tents the nighttime is skipped. The waiting players see a status screen indicating how many players are still being waited for.

New locations

New discoverable locations have been added. There are now two types of locations: orange and blue. Orange locations are the old special locations with multiple vendors. Blue locations are the new locations. There are three types of locations with different capabilities:

 • Pick up point
 • Stash
 • Resting spot
Pick up points
Pick up points act as one-way fast travel service. You’re able to fast travel from them to any special location (Orange points on the map).
Stashes
Stashes include the global storage box. Here you can access your global storage items.
Resting spots
Resting spots have a tent. You can spend the night there and continue your hunting journey in the morning.

Flares

Flares are now available! They are one use items which will scare some of the dinosaurs and distract others. They can be used to help you avoid some encounters.

Flares can be bought from the shop with cost of 15 credits. You’ll need to equip it in one of the utility equipment slots (slots 4-6). HUD will provide guidance to flare usage. First you take the cap of. Then you will attempt to light it. There is a chance the flare won’t ignite on every try.

Once lit, a flare can be held in hand, dropped, or thrown. Flares will burn for one minute.

New dinosaur model for Pteranodon

Pteranodon model got a visual rework.

View model adjustment

It’s now possible to adjust the view model which affects how player’s hands and weapon look on screen. Players can find the menu in game by going to options and clicking “Adjust view model”. You can adjust horizontal, vertical and depth offset.

Region change UI

Region change is now easier in the main menu and you can now see your ping to each region. Once you’ve selected Play game you can see option in bottom right to switch region.
