Development Blog #22 – Skip the night in tents!

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

Development is ongoing for tents where players can skip the night. New points of interest are being added to the map giving players more locations to find. All images are work in progress images and are subject to change.

Tents

Tents will give the players ability to sleep through the night. Usage of tent will only be possible during nighttime. Players will wake up in the morning.

A tent is being added to each special location. In addition there will be new locations on the map with just tents.

New locations

In addition to current special locations we are working on smaller locations. There will be three types of locations with different capabilities:

 • Pick up point
 • Stash
 • Resting spot
Pick up points
Pick up points will have fast travel capability with the familiar fast travel machine. You’re able to fast travel from there to any special location. You’re not able to fast travel to these new pick up points.
Stashes
Stashes will include the global storage box. Here you can access your global storage items and interact with it the same way as with the box in current special locations.
Resting spots
Resting spots will contain the new tent. You can spend the night there and continue your hunting journey in the morning.

Flares

Flares are in development! The idea is they could be used to scare some of the dinosaurs and lure some of the bigger predators. They would be one use items available from the shop.

Other improvements
 • Game engine has been updated
 • Bleeding amount increased from vital organ hits
 • Added sounds to UI buttons and elements that were missing sounds

Bug fixes
 • Fixed an issue where Spinosaurus could clip inside terrain

These improvements you can expect to see in the next update :)

Thank you for reading and we look forward to hearing your thoughts.

New trophy lodge rooms

Players can now add new rooms into their trophy lodges. Your default room is the hall as previously. Now you will spot doors on walls that are highlighted with orange color in the editing mode. When you interact with the doors you can expand the lodge into new rooms.

There are three types of rooms to choose from:
 • Hall (the old default room in game), grid size 2x1, cost to unlock: 200, level required: 1
 • Room, grid size 1x1, cost to unlock: 200, level required: 3
 • Room with fireplace, grid size 1x1, cost to unlock: 400, level required: 5

New room types can be unlocked with credits. Once you’ve unlocked the type you can add as many as you want.

There's a limit to how many rooms you can add to the lodge. Each new room takes up space from your room grid. Starting from your default hall you can expand it with 2 grid slots in each direction making total amount of slots 30 (5x6).

New stand types

There are now five types of stands to display trophies:
 • Stand, Rectangle
 • Stand, Round
 • Stand, Wall
 • Stand, Wall Small
 • Stand, Rectangle with low profile
Trophy head wall mounts
With wall mounts players are able to display dinosaur heads on walls. There are two sizes of wall mounts: one for bigger and one for smaller dinosaurs. When adding dinosaur head for display the list will show compatible dinosaurs only in the list. Currently all dinosaurs can be placed on the wall stands except for Compsognathus, Gallimimus and Iguanodon.
Floor stands
In addition to rectangle stands new round stands were added. There’s also a new rectangle stand with lower profile.

Decoration items

New decoration items can be added to your lodge from the I menu. Most of the items need to be unlocked with player levels and credits but some of them are already open on the first level. Once you’ve unlocked an item you can place as many as you like. You can freely rotate and place the items. You can also remove these items one by one in the edit mode with E key.

Here is list of items you can add:
 • Chair, Leather cushion
 • Chair, Turquoise cushion
 • Table, Small
 • Table, Small type 2
 • Table, Small round
 • Table, Large
 • Bed
 • Bookshelf, Large empty
 • Bookshelf, Small empty

Guidance to lodge usage

We’ve added a HUD to trophy lodge that players can show and hide with U key. The HUD is there to guide players to the controls with which you can add items and rotate them.

Floor stands will also display in which direction the dinosaur will be facing making placing them easier. This is shown with orange arrow on top of the stand when placing it.

Resetting your lodge

If you want to start over you can reset your lodge. This enables you to arrange rooms in different way. You won’t lose any unlocks or trophies if you reset the lodge, all of them can be placed again.

Development Blog #21 - Trophy lodge customization

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

We are currently working on several improvements to trophy lodges. There will be a way to add new rooms and customize the content of these rooms in various ways. All images are work in progress images and are subject to change.
New rooms to lodge
We are developing a more advanced system where players will be able to add more rooms into their trophy lodges. Currently we have implemented three types of rooms:

 • Hall (the current room in game)
 • Room
 • Room with fireplace

Each room has doors where you can extend the lodge by adding a new room.
New dinosaur stands
In addition to the square stand there will be two additional stands: Round stand and wall stand. Round stand is just a round stand on the ground to give some variance. The wall stand is something completely different as it allows hunters to display dinosaur heads on walls. We are planning to provide different kinds of backplate to the wall stand depending on the dinosaur score.
New furniture
Different kinds of chairs, tables, bookshelves, beds, couches, cupboards, hangers, mirrors and shelves can be freely added to your lodge.
Guidance to lodge usage
We’ve added a HUD to trophy lodge that players can hide with U key to take pictures. The HUD is there to guide players to the controls with which you can add items and rotate them.

Stands will also display in which direction the dinosaur will be facing making placing them easier. This is shown with an orange arrow on top of the stand when placing it.
Graphics update in lodge

Spinosaurus Update is Here!

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

Spinosaurus Update brings multiple improvements to the game including Spinosaurus and interchangeable rifle scopes. It’s again recommended to check these patch notes before playing!

New dinosaur: Spinosaurus

The island's first semiaquatic dinosaur Spinosaurus is here. It’s a large carnivore that can move both in land and water. It is a very fast swimmer so beware of it while in the water!

Interchangeable rifle scopes

Rifles no longer have built in scopes. Instead their default sights are now iron sights and you can attach a scope of your liking to the weapon. There are multiple scopes to choose from.

Please note that your existing rifles don’t have any scopes on them now by default. You need to travel to the nearest special location to buy one.

In the shop you can now find a new item category called “Sights” where you’ll find all purchasable scopes. Currently the selection is following:

 • Standard 2x20 Rifle Scope. A standard fixed zoom scope. This was previously the built-in scope of rifles.
 • Standard 4x20 Rifle Scope. A standard fixed zoom scope.
 • 2-4x24 Rifle Scope. An adjustable scope for shorter distances.
 • 4-8x32 Rifle Scope. An adjustable scope for longer distances.

These scopes are usable with these weapons:
 • Basic rifle
 • Hunting rifle
 • 50 cal rifle

In your inventory you’ll now find an attachment slot next to your equipped weapons. This is where you can drag & drop a scope.

The basic rifle model was updated to include iron sights and a rail to mount scopes.

The hunting rifle model was updated to include iron sights.

Some of the scopes have adjustable zoom. The zoom level can be adjusted with mouse scroll when scoped in. When not scoped in, the mouse scroll will change to the next weapon like it has worked previously.

AI improvements: Drinking dinosaurs & other

Dinosaurs have new behavior: They now need to have a drink regularly. This gives hunters a new way to find dinosaurs by looking for water sources the dinosaurs use. The behavior currently affects Brachiosaurus, Ankylosaurus, Triceratops, Gallimimus, Pachycephalosaurus and Iguanodon.

Dinosaur detection logic was updated. New behavior was added to dinosaurs to take into account swimming players.

Swimming

Players are now able to access water areas with swimming. Players are only able to access inventory and flashlight while swimming, no items can be held in hand. Auto movement can be used and using shift makes the character swim faster. Players aren’t able to dive yet.

When a player dies while swimming their dropped inventory can be found on death location on the surface.

All dinosaurs that fall in water can now be claimed. Their bodies will stay near the surface.

Ground texture improvements

 • All ground has now a bit more detail
 • Rock texture was renewed

Modding improvements

 • Custom Map Support
 • Terrain Editor
 • Custom Mesh and Material Support
 • Custom Sound Support
 • New mod parameters
 • Improved error reporting in mod config files to help find issues in them

New translations

 • Added French translation (Thanks MagSouille)

If you want to help translate Prehistoric Hunt to new languages, you can join our #community-translations channel in Prehistoric Hunt Discord. There you’ll find the game dictionary and get help with the work. We are really thankful for your support! :)

New dinosaur models

 • Giganotosaurus got a visual rework: New model
 • Pachycephalosaurus got a visual rework: New model and new textures.

Other improvements

 • Daytime is now longer
 • Player no longer makes slow slides on hills. When the hill is steep enough, the player will start a bigger slide.
 • Dinosaur turn animations are now more realistic. It takes more time for them to pivot to different directions.
 • Loot box texture was improved
 • Shotgun and revolver reload can be canceled after each separate shot is reloaded. To cancel, hit R or left mouse button.
 • Adjusted Brachiosaurus and Gallimimus size to be more realistic
 • Player view is now slightly higher from ground
 • Secondary inputs can now be disabled in the menus. This is a possible fix for reports of character moving on it’s own.
 • Improved cone tree detail
 • Start inventory now contains separate basic rifle scope
 • Weapon positions are saved between sessions

Bug fixes

 • Fixed issue where dino names were invisible in leaderboard menu
 • Fixed localization issues
 • Fixed note menu scaling
 • Possible fix to menu switching
 • Fix for Steam authentication failing sometimes
 • Player can now holster all equipment
 • Fixed inventory issues when at full capacity and trying use and unequip items
 • Fixed issue with inventory showing zero bullets after death
 • Fixed shotgun shot multiply issue in multiplayer
 • Fixed player typing in chat opening inventory when i-key is pressed

Development Blog #20 - Spinosaurus and drinking dinosaurs!

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

We are currently working on multiple improvements including Spinosaurus and AI improvements with a mechanism that dinosaurs will get thirsty and need something to drink. All images are work in progress images and are subject to change.
Spinosaurus
Spinosaurus is in development and will feature new behavior not seen with other dinosaurs. Our Spinosaurus will be semiaquatic meaning it lives both on land and water. It will be interesting to run into this beast in water …
Dinosaurs drinking
In the future dinosaurs will be able to gather near water to go for a drink. A dinosaur group will get thirsty and then find a water source to drink up. We are defining drinking areas for different dinosaur groups.
Player swimming
We want to provide access to both shallow and deep water for players. There are areas in the map where the player would need to evade a lot of water to go to another place and the possibility to swim will make traveling easier in these cases.
Island texture improvement
Work has been done to improve the ground texture of the island to show more detail. Here are two examples with before and after shots of current progress:
