Deception Runs Deep Update

The cabin feels safer and the deception runs deep in our latest update.

Introducing our newest map - The Deep Woods! The edges of the map to the north are a dark forest with more difficult animals, but also better loot in bunkers.

Scared of the dark? Don’t fret! We’ve partnered with Corsair to brighten things up with full iCUE RGB lighting integration!

[h3]NEW FEATURES & GENERAL CHANGES:[/h3]

A new map has been added, the Deep Woods:
  • The cabin tile is at the bottom of the map.
  • The edges of the map to the north are a dark forest with more difficult animals, but also better loot in bunkers.
Some traitor sabotages have been repriced.
  • The wolf trap sabotage costs 1 credit
  • The fireplace sabotage costs 3 credits.
Some items in traitor crates have been repriced:
  • Vodka and uncooked berries are free.
  • Tripwires, landmines, bear traps, poison, trap disarm kits, and campfires now cost 1 credit.
Defectors’ minimum charge time has been increased to 5 minutes and 30 seconds.
  • Defectors no longer start a match with any of their ability charged.
Changes have been made to the gondola map:
  • The traitor hatch near the cabin has been moved to the bottom of the ramp at the base of the mountain. Its companion hatch has been moved farther from the gondola station.
  • An exile box has been added to the bottom gondola station.
  • Players no longer lose warmth while they are in the gondola.
  • The gondola travels faster when no players are on it.

  • Corsair Integration - full iCUE RGB lighting integration
  • The range and rate at which traitors gain social credits has increased.
  • No role can solo open the armory.
  • The end-game accolade previously named “The Scout” has been renamed to “The Adventurer”
  • Added controller legend for lobby sorting mode
  • Added popup message for basic mode locked crafting items

[h3]BALANCE CHANGES:[/h3]
  • Ranged weapons deal 30% more damage to animals.
  • Guns and gun parts are less likely to be found in open and closed bunkers.
  • Weapon skins revert back to their default skin when the Mass Hysteria event occurs.
  • The progression tree interface has been reorganized to make it easier to show and unlock past events.
  • Disabled emote wheel on ghosts
  • Ghost mode controls have been added to the Settings menu.
  • Social traitor credits no longer decay over time.
  • Re-enabled controller toggle on controls screen in the settings menu
  • Ghost abilities can no longer decrease a downed players revive timer

[h3]BUG FIXES:[/h3]
  • Fixed issues with matches completed/left and percentages stats mismatching
  • Fixed case of a converted tracker keeping tags when promoted to whisperer
  • Fixed issue of being awarded the survivor achievement before the player has escaped
  • Fixed legend not appearing for lobby sorting mode
  • Fixed issue with main menu tabs requiring double clicking
  • Fixed Detectives now don't list themselves or the victim as suspects (unless they killed them)
  • Fixed issue where if a crafting tip became hidden the next time the user pressed the button to show the tip nothing apparent would happen
  • Fixed failure to progress after launching without network, then establishing connectivity and choosing the Retry option
  • [Controller] Removed navigation to the scroll bar on the player profile screen
  • The navigation can no longer explicitly move to the scroll bar, but the scroll bar can still be used with either thumb stick, noted as Rstick on the controller legend.
  • One of the commendation icons will always be selected on this screen to show the player their current nav.
  • Fixed player having their selection reverted to their equipped item when entering recycle mode
  • Fixed Recyclable icons don't hang around when changing back from recycle mode.
  • Fixed `In Use` coming up over a dead body when a ghost approaches one.
  • Fixed issue where dropping radio into radio slot, holding radio talk button, then dragging it out and dropping quickly would cause the player to have access to that radio frequency without the radio.
  • Fixed bug where ghost bonus objectives were breaking when cloned and killed again.
  • Fixed traitor crates having cost on items stored by other traitor.
  • Fixed issue with reward for sabotaging giving rewards for opening and purchasing items from traitor crates.
  • Fixed the monthly reset causing some players to lose extra social ranks when having not logged on for a very long time.
  • Fixed bug where bonus objective that tracks flags visited not allowing a flag to count when visited before grabbing bonus objective from board.
  • Fixed issue where some bonus objectives would be completed when punched.
  • Fixed issue where medium converted to whisperer can still see ghosts.
  • Fixed issue where medium can't see ghosts when cloned.
  • Fixed bug where traitor credit icon would show on survivors when a traitor was cloned into a non-traitor role.
  • Fixed issue with Explorer progression tier 1 being unlocked after spending only 10 seconds in a Blizzard instead of 10 minutes
  • Fixed issue where being dead and being a ghost would contribute to time spent outside during a Blizzard
  • Changed controller keybinds for switching text chat channels to dpad up/down and enabled inventory cycling while text chat is open
  • Fixed issue where two inventory controller keybind sprites could be shown at the same time
  • Fixed a couple issues with controller lobby sorting mode
  • You can no longer navigate to lobby entries and get the navigation stuck while sorting mode is active
  • You can no longer navigate to the join button on lobby entries if it was being shown before sorting mode was made active
  • Fixed issue where ghost players that escaped could drop a radio if they escaped with one
  • Fixed issue where ghost ability pfx would be seen by players that were unaffected by the ability
  • Fixed issue where the dead body minimap ping would not be removed when stealing the role of a player who was not the first to die
  • Fixed issue where players ragdolling but not dying could show the dead player icon on the minimap for ID Thieves
  • Disabled any active Tracker tag if the Tracker player gets converted

Greetings Survivors!

First of all, we wanted to thank everyone for their feedback on the latest updates, and for your patience while we work towards porting Project Winter to other platforms. This latest update will only be available on Steam at this current moment, meaning crossplay between Steam and Microsoft will not be compatible. This is to prepare for our release on other platforms - which will be announced soon™. We understand that this could bring inconvenience for some players during this time, but we hope that this will better help us get all the platforms on the same content update in the long run due to certification and approval processes.

The last couple of updates have introduced some changes to our beloved roles, and implemented some changes and systems to help improve overall player experience! This update works towards better balancing through additional role changes and improving the social ranking system.

We’re also introducing changes to ghost gameplay! Ghosts now have their own bonus challenges, an inventory slot and more balanced abilities overall! We hope these improvements will allow for more fun ghost gameplay - both for ghosts and the players still alive in the game!

[h3]NEW FEATURES & GENERAL CHANGES:[/h3]

ROLES:
We are working towards an optimal balance of the roles that allows our playerbase to have fun while also maintaining the overall goals of Project Winter. Our main focus is to promote communication and teamwork while providing tools and roles that allow for social deception plays. We are introducing some changes that we hope will be stepping stones towards that balance:
  • Soldier, Scientist, Traitor Scientist, Medic, and Traitor Medic roles have been removed.

  • Any 3 players can open the armory together.
  • The armory can only be opened after the first objective has been completed.
  • The armory no longer appears on the minimap for any role.

  • Any player can use the lazarus machine.
  • The lazarus machine requires meat and fur in addition to a human heart.
  • Any player resurrected by the lazarus machine will be on the same team as the player who resurrected them.
  • If a traitor resurrects someone, they’re revived as a traitor. If a survivor resurrects someone, they’re revived as a survivor. If an ID thief that has not stolen a role resurrects someone, there is a 50/50 chance of them being a traitor or survivor.

  • A new role is added: the Tracker.
  • The Tracker can use their ability to “tag” players, bunker consoles, and the second objective (before the repair beacon has been activated).
  • Tagging one of the above lets the tracker see where they are in relation to that player/console/objective at all times, similar to a flare or beacon.
  • Trackers can only tag one thing at a time, and can switch their tag from their initial target when their ability is charged.

  • The defector’s ability charges slowly when they are around many people, and charges quickly when they are around less people.
  • ID Thieves can see the location of the first death/dead body in a match on the minimap.
  • ID Thief’s role description has been reworded to better communicate the purpose of their role.
  • Detectives no longer hear dead body proximity music next to a body once they have investigated that body.
  • Dead body proximity for both the detective and ID thief is controlled by the Music slider in the settings instead of the Ambient/SFX slider.
GHOST GAMEPLAY:
  • Ghosts can claim ghost-specific bonus challenges from the map outside the cabin.
  • Ghosts can only claim one ghost bonus challenge at a time, but can complete an unlimited number of ghost bonus challenges during a match.
  • Ghosts get one inventory slot that they can use to pick up and drop loose items.
  • Ghosts pick up items much slower than living players.
  • Items do not stack for ghosts. Ghosts can only pick up one item at a time.
  • If ghosts pick up poison, they can use it to poison interactable objects.
  • The visual effects for ghost abilities (ghost freeze, ghost heal, etc) are only visible to the players affected by those ghost abilities.
  • Ghost feast and ghost fire are changed to be AOE abilities similar to ghost freeze and ghost heal.
  • The amount of hunger granted by ghost feast is increased to 40.
  • The amount of warmth granted by ghost fire is increased to 40.
  • The amount of health granted by ghost heal is increased to 40.
  • The amount of warmth taken away by ghost freeze is increased to 30.
SOCIAL RANK:
We’ve decided to implement some changes to the social ranking system in an attempt to improve the system so that it is more accurate and to better reduce toxicity.
  • All players will revert back to the bronze social rank once a month.
  • The amount of reputation points a player needs to reach higher social ranks has been adjusted to reflect this change.
  • Players receive reputation points for staying in Basic and Normal matches to completion, whether that player is alive or dead.
  • Thumbs up have been replaced by commendations.
  • Commendations can be given at the end of a match and grant the receiver reputation points, the same as a thumbs up.
  • Commendation categories are Friendly, Good Teacher, Good Leader, and Master of Deceit.
  • Players cannot give commendations to the same player more than twice per day.
  • Commendation counts do not reset during monthly social rank resets.
  • Players must have at least 25 total commendations to advance to the silver rank, and at least 50 total commendations to advance to the gold rank.
  • Players can only give one type of commendation per match.
  • Commendations cannot be given during Custom matches.
  • Commendations are displayed on your player profile.
  • Players can view the commendation counts and leave ratios of other players in their lobby by selecting their lobby entry.

[h3]BALANCE CHANGES:[/h3]
  • Default role distribution in Normal and Blackout matches is adjusted to reflect the role changes.
  • The maximum number of Defectors in a match is increased to 2.
  • The maximum number of Scouts in a match is increased to 3.
  • Buttons for teleporting to other players while playing as a ghost have been remapped to account for being able to pick up/put down items.
  • Megablizzard incoming message has been reworded
  • Navigation to lobby sorting options on controller has been changed so they can be reached with Y
  • Melee weapons excluding the torch will now show the minimum damage to the closest multiple of 5 that's lower.

[h3]BUG FIXES:[/h3]
  • Fixed report form navigation on controller for the other toggle showing an input field
  • Fixed issue with caching rewards causing rewards to never update.
  • Fixed player report form having no navigation
  • Fixed dead body proximity music not playing for resurrected roles that should have dead body proximity music
  • Fixed an issue where custom settings for min/max traitor values were not handled correctly.
  • Fixed issue where player ranks weren't showing up correctly in lobby as well as in game over screen and in commendation block
  • Fixed clipping issues with Wild cape white large male cape
  • Fixed clipping issues with Wild Cape Brown/Black/White
  • Dig photos popup now disables the tooltips from showing up
  • [Controller] Crafting info tooltips changed to toggle when you press left/right and disable once you change.
  • Fix for the social reward popup blocking UICancel for most other stuff in the scene.
  • Improved mkb aiming especially in cases when aiming at targets on the left/right side of the screen
  • when aiming over a valid target, aim shifts very slightly towards the center for more accurate visuals
  • hitscan weapons shoot towards the center of the target as long as it is a valid target
  • Fixed retry connection popup not working as intended and attempting to reconnect while the internet remains disconnected
  • Added messaging to preferred game mode popup to indicate that the player's region changes to "best" when quick matching
  • Fixed issue where players would appear to have more crates in their inventory resulting in opening errors
  • Fixed issue where animals (bears) would seem like they were disappearing
  • Fixed player list entries to fade instead of being removed. Now players who left can still be reported
  • Fixed bug where camera would focus on body, not ghost of dead player in gondola area.
  • Fixed bug where multiple updates were causing role ability to flash and the sound to go off constantly
  • Fixed early leave timer when a player leaves a game early as red rank.
  • Fixed traitors being able to break for free when survivor walked away from their console,
  • Fixed bear traps trapping the placer if they've been placed before
  • Fixed bug where Nameplate of player was disappearing permanently by using landmine to launch into outhouse.
  • Fixed issue where changing custom game objectives would change practice mode menu objectives selection
  • [Controller] Fixed navigation issue on Practice Mode menu
  • Fixed issue where traitor chat radio tab was not displaying properly for ID Thief
  • Deleted poop models

Community Service Update



Greetings Survivors!

We hope you’ve been enjoying the latest role revival update!

Our community is our number one priority always. So it’s time for a little community service!

In this update we’ve made some changes to our reporting, ranking and lobby systems to help improve player experience - both new and veterans. This is the first phase to enhance player experience and we look forward to hearing your feedback!

We also added in a completely new mode - Practice Mode! A playground to learn the in and outs of Project Winter! This single player mode will allow you to play through a match and try out different roles and items at your own pace!

[h3]NEW FEATURES & GENERAL CHANGES:[/h3]
  • A report button has been added to the dropdown menu when selecting a player’s entry in the lobby
  • In-game reports on console and controller have check boxes for report reasons
  • Lobby hosts can bar red ranks from joining their lobbies
  • Bronze, silver, and gold players get a free cosmetics crate every week
  • A player’s early leave ratio is displayed on their player profile
  • Health, warmth, and hunger bars now more clearly show buffs and debuffs to your stats

The amount of times a player has killed other players is listed on their player profile.
  • This value is only tracked after this update --your kills before the update aren’t there, sorry!

Players can vote to kick other players out of a match after a match has begun
  • If a player is kicked out of a match, all players remaining do not gain any SP or artifacts from the rest of that match
  • Players with red ranks cannot vote kick

Practice mode has been added
  • Practice mode is a single-player way to play through a match of Project Winter and try out different items and roles

[h3]BALANCE CHANGES:[/h3]
  • In-game reports will not affect your social ranking unless the reporter leaves a comment
  • Loading screen tips have been added RE: reporting players
  • Players have to wait 20 seconds before rejoining a lobby they have just left
  • Currency gain is increased for silver and gold ranks, and decreased for red and bright red ranks.
  • Red ranks must wait until their most recent match has ended before joining a new one
  • Frequently quitting games while you are still alive lowers your social rank
  • “Results” tab in the match over screen has been renamed to “upvotes”, and players’ social ranks are visible there
  • Text has been added to the your player profile explaining the rewards/penalties for your current rank
  • Using ranged weapons or throwing items while using a controller has been improved

Tips have been added for new players regarding the weather, objectives, and ranged weapons
  • All new player tips show up 3 times total instead of just once

[h3]BUG FIXES:[/h3]
  • Fixed a bug where there could be loss of navigation as a result of entering a password to the lobby password popup.
  • Cosmetics - Fixed a bug where Striped Cape could appear different between the character model and the inventory.
  • Cosmetics - Fixed appearance of torso fur standard male and standard female
  • Cosmetics - Bandanas fixed to avoid HairBraidSide clipping. Hair SideBraid, and HairSideBraid clip.
  • Fixed issue where sickle shears items would generate errors on the main menu when equipped
  • Cleaned up the invitation system for Steam, Xbox and Win Crossplay. Should be more stable now.
  • Fixed instance where player could buy a progression item multiple times.
  • Fixed multiple localization errors in all languages.
  • Fixed instances where censored names were being uncensored in the end of game event timeline.
  • Fixed instances where the censored names were being uncensored on the truth serum reveal notification.
  • Fixed instances where the helicopter rescue event could give null references.
  • "Fixed" the "Alien Cube Of Doom" appearing, becoming sentient and floating above the level.
  • Fixed an instance where cloned players could not see the red "damage" vignette when taking damage.
  • Fixed a bug where the end game blizzard would not trigger if the host disconnected just before the blizzard started.
  • Fixed an instance where Sabotaging the TNT consoles did not cost credits.
  • Fixed an instance where the tutorial progress could be blocked if the user spent traitor credits on the "break" or "wolf trap" actions on bunkers
  • Fixed a bug where players buttons could become unresponsive and could not be selected when opening the menu after reaching the "Match Over" screen on a crossplay lobby.
  • Fixed a bug where the Yeti had access to a "break" option when attempting to use a bunker.
  • Fixed a bug where a player could negate the effect of a Solar Flare Event if they used a hatch at the correct time.
  • Fixed a bug where the minimap would still be present if the player used a hatch at the correct time during a Solar Flare Event.
  • Fixed a bug where the player could become invincible if they used a traitor hatch as they reached zero health.
  • Fixed a few instances where the "survive without..." bonus objective could be completed if the player died to a sabotaged Fulton Escape.
  • Xbox: Fixed an instance where the gamer pic would show an error instead of a placeholder generic image.
  • Xbox: Fixed instances where the social rating icons appear pixelated / low resolution.
  • Xbox: Improved aiming systems on controllers.
  • Improved navigational paths for wildlife around bridges.
  • Fixed instances where a wave objective could spawn on an island, causing the animals to get stuck in certain tile areas.
  • Fixed instances where the player's end of game score was not calculated properly
  • Clarified text for the "votekick" explanation pop up.
  • Fixed a few instances where the graphics could become corrupted if a player used the crafting table while weather events were active.
