Become a Guildmaster

“After fighting the most ferocious monsters and the most cunning bandits, after traveling the plains of the continent, you thought you were at the end of your adventures ...

Pressed on the bar, sipping a well-deserved drink, fatigue could be read on your face. Then a hooded figure appeared next to you. Large horns protruded from his hood. With a quick wave of his hand, he ordered a full mug. Without saying a word, he slid a piece of parchment folded in half towards you on the counter.

Arching an eyebrow at the stranger, you grab the paper to discover its contents while the mysterious messenger finishes his glass suddenly and turns on his heels towards the exit.
Your eyes are returned to the parchment. A complete map of the lands of Gloomhaven, showing precisely the location of new equipment, formidable and powerful mercenaries to recruit and more ...

You thought you were at the end of your adventures ... So now discover the new Guildmaster mode!”

Greeting mercenaries!

As some of you have guessed, we have been working hard lately on a whole new way of adventuring throughout Gloomhaven. Since the release of the early access we have gathered very valuable feedback and requests from your reviews and comments.

We are delighted to present to you, Gloomhaven Guildmaster: a new game mode coming in the Early Access. It is the largest update so far bringing highly requested changes and new content. Its objective is to both deliver the most gripping & enjoyable early access Gloomhaven experience AND to make a huge step in the direction of the board game campaign implementation.

Here are few of many changes planned for the Guildmaster update coming on the 25th June:
 1. Manage freely your roster of mercenaries at any point of your adventure.
 2. Revamped the out-of-dungeon experience with new missions/objectives/stories.
 3. Reworked the tutorial and introduction to gameplay mechanics.
 4. Cave biome and its monsters added.
 5. Co-op multiplayer in beta.

GATHER YOUR MERCENARIES AND BECOME A GUILDMASTER

As a Guildmaster, you will take control of a Guild of Mercenaries who see an opportunity to make a lot of money by reopening trade routes across the lands while everyone else is too afraid to do it.
Thanks to the feedback given by our players, we understood that you wanted to be able to actively change your mercenary roster whenever you unlocked a new slot or when we added a new mercenary.

In the Guildmaster game mode, you will be able to form your own company, modify freely your roster, and try out the best team synergies.

We also understood that from your comments that the game was lacking objectives and goals as you play. In this update, you will take on over 90 challenging new missions to liberate areas of the map, uncover mercenaries’ stories, unlock powerful items, or simply earn extra gold coins as hired blades. New characters will follow the company in their journey and give out missions and rewards.

Finally, we received reviews from new players regarding our learning curve and the gap between our tutorial and the in-game experience.
This is why in the Guildmaster update also brings a reworked tutorial and a well-paced introduction so that newcomers and Gloomhaven experts alike will be able to discover and rediscover the core gameplay mechanics of Gloomhaven, as well as some of the advanced mechanics brought by each mercenary.

A lot of the hidden gameplay mechanics and programming code implemented in this upcoming update brings us closer to the full launch of the board game campaign that includes, but is not limited to:
 • Multiplayer co-op mode in beta
 • Narration in and out of dungeons
 • Possibility to change rosters
 • Multiple new dungeon modifiers and objectives
 • The addition of the Temple
 • New monsters

These are just a few examples of features and mechanics that are necessary to achieve one objective: deliver the greatest Gloomhaven digital adaptation with all the original board game content and campaign.

Please note that the guildmaster mode will replace the current adventure mode, therefore your progress will be lost. This is due to the way that the two modes work differently and how progress is measured, unfortunately progression cannot be translated between the two.

NEW BIOME: VENTURE OUT IN THE DARK CAVERNS… !

A brand new environment has been discovered!

Prepare to discover the cave biome and its formidable enemies. If fighting a bear is part of your daily activities, beware of the imposing stone golem! Also try not to disturb the sleep of the drakes or vipers. That said, their scales must be worth their weight in gold…

Also we’re not forgetting the multiplayer co-op mode, which is on the top of our priority list. We know you’re very impatient to try it and so are we!

We’re very pleased to announce that co-op multiplayer will be available in closed beta for a short period on the 25th and will later be released into open beta.

We've taken the decision to launch it first in closed beta in order to make sure it is stable enough before officially creating a beta branch, where everyone will be able to give it a try.
If you wish to join the multiplayer co-op closed-beta on the 25th June, you'll have to join our official Discord, where there will be a channel dedicated to this specific closed-beta.

Please note that these decisions are taken only to provide you with the best experience possible for this very awaited feature!

WHAT’S NEXT?

This is the largest update so far in the early access bringing both new content and community requested changes and improvements. We’re getting closer to the campaign thanks to these reworks and massive changes. As some of you requested, we have updated the roadmap in order to give you an overview of future updates and content to come. The journey is still on! In addition to this we also wanted to state that Asmodee Digital and Flaming Fowl Studios are being impacted by the current health crisis, just like many others. We want you to know that everyone is safe and currently working from home to stay that way. This however does mean that we are delayed in our ability to both deploy and develop new patches and content. We are doing our best to ensure that we are updating the game as often as possible and do apologise if updates are coming in slower than previously. We are also working on some major changes and updates which we will be talking about in more detail in the coming weeks and months.

We have taken into account your desire to be able to play multiplayer during this difficult period. Although we are still working on it diligently, here is an exclusive sneak-peek of the multiplayer mode! You deserve it!

What do you think of it?! We are hoping to be able to allow you access to a test version of this new feature in the near future!

Stay safe adventurers!

Gloomhaven’s second Community Challenge starts now!

“Your steps led you to the entrance to the dungeon, at the exact location specified by the peasants crossed in the previous village. The enormous half-sunken stone door, on which even some plants climb, was dotted with glyphs and runes. The atmosphere was heavy with black magic and you could feel the insistent looks of the still but no less scary gargoyles guarding the entrance ...

One thing was certain about this place: it was infested with enemies, formidable ones. No choice, you will have to recruit mercenaries to fight by your side ... Slightly annoyed by having to share the treasure and rewards that dot the dungeon, you can at least feel happy not to finish in pieces or to languish at the bottom of a malfamous dungeon. Fortunately, you know the right place to hire fearless warriors and enchanters...”
Let's continue our Community Challenges!
Last time, you defeated over 265K enemies and unlocked the Brute skin “Boneguard”. This time, we offer you a challenge of a completely different type…
You’ll need to attain 10K members on our official Discord! Here is the link to join.

Now is the perfect time to initiate your friends to the game and make them join the ranks of the proud mercenaries of Gloomhaven on our official Discord.

Let’s start recruiting now!

Road Event Writing Contest - Winners announcement!

“A crowd was beginning to gather in front of the billboard of the Sleeping Lion Inn. Mercenaries, bards, and commoners clashed in the hope of distinguishing their written name from the precious piece of parchment placed against the panel.

You could hear some people jostling, on the verge of drawing fists and swords. Others sighed loudly when they discovered that their text had not been retained. Eventually, you manage to get close enough to catch a glimpse of the names of the proud winners whose adventures would be told beyond the plains of Gloomhaven.”

Hello Mercenaries!

Our writing contest has come to an end! We’d like to thank everyone who tried their luck in this adventure. We loved reading your stories, from the most tragic to the most comical ones. Also, thank you to all the mercenaries who took time to read the entries and give their vote! Now is the time we reveal the winners…

Congratulations to the following entries:

As a reward and as communicated before, the winners’ shorts stories will be added as Road Events in the digital edition of Gloomhaven!
Your writing skills and the great adventure you have told us will make you an integral part of the tales of Gloomhaven. Your story will be told and sung throughout the lands.

In order to better fit with the world of Gloomhaven and ensure game balance, we reserve the right to slightly modify and adapt certain passages and rewards so that they are in perfect harmony with other road events. Don’t worry! Any potential changes will be minimal, so as not to taint your work!
For a reminder, the contest rules can be found here.

Do not forget that the 10 entries that received the most votes will also be receiving a key for Gloomhaven on Steam. These should have already arrived in your provided email address, so make sure to check if you were one of the top 10!

We really enjoyed spending time reading your writings and running this contest. Thank you all for your involvement and support! Be prepared for more contests and challenges in the future as we continue to improve and enhance the Gloomhaven experience...let’s continue to share more and more adventures in the future!

The Gloomhaven Team

Witness the Power of the Elements!
The town crier approaches the town square, you stand up from your seat observing the comings and goings in Gloomhaven to find out what is happening. "Hear-ye hear-ye! Many new happenings have been occuring in Gloomhaven in recent times, adventurers and townfolk are advised to keep a watchful eye for strange new creations appearing—rumors state that these are the creations of members of our very own people!"
You muse to yourself that you would like to learn more about what these new creations are and if you may even be able to create your own inventions...the town crier cuts off your thought as he continues. "A new Mercenary has joined the town's registry and is ready for missions alongside even the most elite adventurers." You contemplate who this new Mercenary might be, and prepare yourself to check the town registry to learn more... "For more details on these happenings, be sure to read our updates on the towns news-board." You re-assess your priorities and first head to the news-board as it is on the way to the town hall.

Greetings Mercenaries!

The newest patch for Gloomhaven has now landed on the live servers and we are incredibly excited to see you not only playing with the new Mercenary, now availalable, but also the freshly implemented Modding and Level creation systems, as well as the Enhancements system!

If your interested in reading the entire patch notes, please see this forum thread: https://steamcommunity.com/app/780290/discussions/0/1643169167151064379/

There is a lot to go over today, so let's get started with the biggest point to discuss, the new Mercenary.

As we know that this is a hot-button topic for the entire community, the below information and reveal of the new Mercenary will be hidden below, under it's icon. If you are not afraid of spoilers, then click the black covered information below. If you want to remain spoiler free, until you have an opportunity to play the game, skip to the next section!

You have decided to brave this section of spoilers, so let's get down to the four cores of it: The Elementalist is now available in Gloomhaven!

Only watch this trailer if you are not afraid of spoilers:
[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

The Elementalist is a Savvas who has attained mastery over the four elements, Fire, Earth, Ice and Air. It is capable of manipulating the elements to an immense degree, generating and using elements of multiple varieties. Be prepared for a class that requires high levels of skill and preperation, capable of both healing and mass devastation!

Now onto another feature that that has been deployed in this patch we're sure is of interest to the entire community: Modding
Modding
Modding is an advanced feature of the game which we recommend that you learn more about before you start trying to use it. Do note that this is the very first implementation of modding and we will continue to develop, add to and change the functionality of this system. Modding is an important system for us and something we are taking great care with, so we appreciate any feedback on this system that you may have.

As a word of warning for anyone wanting to use it, do note that there are a high chance of bugs from incorrect YML creation, as well as a chance for corruption of Gloomhaven's data if used incorrectly. The Steam Workshop is integrated into this system to allow simple application of mods and is accessible only if you both own the game and use the "Play with mods" option. Do note as well that not many mods are currently available through the Steam Workshop at this time due to how new the feature is, this will continue to grow and develop over time.

We have several guides that are of use if you're interested in modding created by a member of the community, as well as by Craig from Flaming Fowl Studios:

While Modding will not allow you to implement new map tiles or character/enemy models, it does allow you to modify the existing rulesets and actions in the game to great effect through the editing of YML files. Several community members have already managed to create some cool mods, but take care as some might spoil future updates and content. We have also implemented a level editor into the game that is accessible in all branches of the game (Play without mods included), which allows you to create customized levels. There is some unreleased content coming in future updates in here, so we caution use of this as there are some stability issues with using this unreleased content and it also risks spoiling some content.

We look forward to everyone getting their hands on all of the new content in this patch!

Good luck in your battles, mercenaries!
