[h2]It's a Beta[/h2]
I was originally going to save this stuff for the end of Version 8, but then I started thinking about tweaking some gift effects just before going on vacation. Then it all cascaded into a full on rebalancing of most gifts! This also made it necessary to do the changes to Endless Stress mode that I had planned for later. This mostly came down to changing the way the shop works in a few ways.
But a lot of changes all at once like this means there is potential for way more bugs and maybe crashes than normal. I like to keep the list of known bugs at somewhere around 0 at all times, so I've decided to make this one into a beta.
You can access the beta by right clicking the game in your steam library:
Properties > Betas > Select balance_beta from the dropdown menu there
The game should then update to the beta version. You won't have to do anything when the beta ends either. It will just return to the main branch automatically.
Just a minor spoiler warning, I have included a list of every gift that was changed down below and details of their effects. Just in case some of you would rather not have those revealed.
[h2]Updates and tweaks[/h2]
- Endless mode: Added new options and upgrades to the shop
- Endless mode: The shop upgrades for reducing the cost of gifts were removed, and the levels you had in them are applied to new upgrades
- Endless mode: Karma gained from the monster's level now diminishes after Lv15, this applies to the towers too, but is most notable in endless mode
- Endless mode: Completely changed the way karma costs rise as you buy gifts from the shop
- Quickplay: Earning all possible radiant medals on a single monster will replace their family icon with a heart icon
- Crit rates are no longer capped at 100% and will create higher level crits when rates go above 100%
- Changed the way critical shots are drawn to improve performance when there are a lot of them
- Panic Polyps will now stay dormant if you already have 5 or more panics available
- All Stones reach their max rate of fire at a 75% combo instead of 84%
- Increased the bit rate quality of the music tracks
- Optimized saving data when performing certain actions during events, and when radiating anything in the collection
- Bonus Gifts given in the True Panic event are not limited to panic gifts anymore, but all other gift types still are
[h2]Bug Fixes[/h2]
- Slightly adjusted Ventra and Guardian Soul's obstacle generation to avoid a very rare impossible to dodge combination
- Fixed a crash caused by heartbreaking on the same frame that a helper is created. It turns out I had not actually fixed this in v8.7b, but I double checked this time.
The next update will be on October 11th, and it will return to the main non-beta branch along with all these changes.
