Update to Version 0.9.85

This update has a ton of major changes that you as a player may not see like, cleaning up files that are not needed in the project, resizing some of the textures used, added pooling system to spawn loot on time limits and reworking the entire map with new textures. I am very happy with the way the game is looking and feeling and with a couple more weeks of updates, I think the game will be at a stage and have enough content to play for long periods of time. Over the next few days, I will be releasing several updates as I decorate areas of the map and add sounds to the project. If you want to help with suggestions, report bugs or just stay up to date, then I invite you to join our Discord.

Some of the changes in this update.

Changed the way you build your homestead, only cabin parts are available for now, and you build sections of walls and floors, then snap them together to build a house. New pieces will be added throughout the next couple of weeks.

New Items added
Scrap metal
Nails
Small Jar
Large Jar
Canned Beans
Canned Tomatoes
Canned Pumpkin
Canned Beets

I have also added items to loot, some of the trash bags, boxes and other items will now have random loot.

Lowered vegetation to improve FPS

Weekly Update #4

Hello everyone and welcome to another quick update. This week will just be some news about what's going on and what I am doing this week, an update for the game will come along more towards the end of the week. The next update will bring a lot of much-needed changes, I have lowered some of the vegetation on the map to improve the frame rate, so far it has added another 20 frames to the gameplay. I hope it stays that way as I continue to add new items into the game. The main goal over the next 3 weeks is to bring the game into a more playable state, where you will be able to play the game for a more extended time and still have plenty to do. One of the first changes I made was to the build system, For now, I have removed the log to log building and added walls, floors, ceilings, foundations, windows, doors, and stairs to the log building parts, so you will now be able to build sections of wall at a time instead of 1 log at a time. This seems to be much smoother and gives a much better experience.
Another addition I know you will like is LOOT, Yes you will now be able to search, trash, boxes and other items around the map for needed items, along with this will come 3 new loot boxes that will be hidden in random locations around the map. New discovery task available, New NPC,s quest available and you will also notice some changes to the Task UI. Well, I don't want to leak to much until you can play it, so keep an eye out, I will post an announcement in a few days when the update is ready, I am thinking maybe Thursday or Friday. Thanks for all the support, talk to you all soon.

Weekly Update #3

This week's update is about getting the new map into the game, it started out as an easy task and went well up until Wednesday. There were some issues connecting the campground map to the main map so the end result was to rebuild the campground on the new map. I have since rebuilt the campground on the new map, and it is starting to look better than the other set up. I am adding the NPC's back into the scene and the dialog.

What has been done so far this week?

#1) I copied the main map, then wiped all the textures and splat maps. All that was left of the map was the Heightmap.
#2) Added new textures for the map, and applied them to the map.
#3) For me to be able to stream the map for that real open-world feel, the map has to be broken down into smaller pieces. The main map section was broke down into 64 chunks of terrain.
#4) One by one I had to go into each terrains settings and reset all the details so that they all matched and would give the best level of detail.
#5) Added new terrain to all 64 chunks, the new shaders will allow changes in the ground and trees for seasons and other events.
#6) Added vegetation spawn system to each of the 64 chunks and had to set the rules for spawn on each of the 64 pieces.
#7) Started building the new campground area on chunk #20 of the new map.
#8) To allow streaming of the items with the terrain, all the items I have been adding including campground props all have to have a prefix added to the beginning of there name, so I have renamed dozens of items so far as I build the new campground.
#9) Here is a list of other small things I have done or fixed.

Offset camera a little to help improve picking up items in 3rd person.
Fixed Tree Colliders

Fixed bad spots in roads, where the player would get stuck

Increased walk and sprint speed.

This update should be on Steam within the next few hours, As soon as all the Navigation and Occlusion maps bake, I will push the update live to Steam.

Goals for the next update.

I will be working on the new map and game improvements this week. My goal is to have the first year of the game fully playable within the next few weeks. The game is set up with time, months, and seasons. The apocalypse is a 7 Year event, So the goal is to get the first year fully playable to give the players something they can finally play. Thanks for all the support.
