Update 1.5.10 - Performance Patch for Frostfall

Hey everyone.

It seems our Frostfall update introduced a bunch of performance issues and a few bugs here and there that needed addressed. This took a bit more time than expected due to the holidays.

To make up for the frustrating performance issues we're officially extending the Frostfall event by an additional 5 days, ending the event on January 10th.

Unfortunately our server tech is still on vacation, so dedicated servers won't get an update until the 2nd or 3rd of January. Official US and EU servers will also be offline until then.

Among the performance improvements we've fixed a handful of bugs with quests, drop rates, etc. so here are the patch notes for everything else.


Known Bugs:
  • Mount XP bar shows total XP, and not the level's current XP. This is only visual and doesn't affect your mount's actual level progress.
  • Shield gets stuck sometimes after a shield bash and takes a second or two before it can be used. Attacking with another weapon seems to fix this.


New:
  • Tortoise has a new jumping animation
  • Mounts now track experience under your health bar when mounted
  • In the stables menu you can now see how many points you have left to spend
  • In the stables menu you can now hover over the stats buttons and bars to learn more information about what the levels do


Improved:
  • Lots of performances improvements all around
  • Removed all “X” variations of wands and staves from collections
  • Updated quantities sold throughout Snow Peak
  • Jed’s Doll shouldn’t disappear anymore and can no longer be lost on accident by dropping
  • Slimes respawn in all areas now
  • Omen Wand and Corrupted Wand now give health instead of magic on hit


Fixed:
  • Fireball Tome sounds now respect volume settings
  • Festive Sword has correct colors on it
  • Snowman Arm can be obtained in Snow Peak now
  • Arthus’s quest can be completed with his own drink now
  • Fixed a bug where resources aren't removed when crafting max
  • Snowman Arm correctly gives Arcane level instead of Chaos level now
  • Festive Staff of Joy and Festive Staff of Cheer are recognized by the portal snowmen to let you enter Snow Peak
  • Ginger restocks her shop now
  • Carol restocks her stockings and wreaths now
  • Cecil’s complexion restored
  • Giftboxes respawn at 7am again
  • Ginger no longer takes double materials
  • Conjure Feast Tome now spawns in when cast
  • If playing multiplayer and your character sleeps in the Farmlands, going back to single player will not trap you in the Farmlands anymore
  • Gravekeeper’s quest has been adjusted to work properly
  • Tomes now work with the Snowman Arm
  • Mount levels now save even if you don’t spend your points
  • In a multiplayer game trying to buy a housing blueprint no longer gives you an error that someone else is viewing it when no one is around
  • Blitz only allows for one secret trade now

Frostfall Event Update 1.5.9

Welcome back to Snow Peak Village for the celebration of Frostfall! We're excited to celebrate our 3rd annual Frostfall event with you!



This in-game event will last two weeks from December 22nd until January 5th. Help out the villagers around Snow Peak and defeat the Frost Golem to gain access to it's treasures. Along with all of the last two year's content, we've added new loot, NPCs, and quests to complete.

To get to Snow Peak, visit one of the two portals located in Hope Harbor and Sleepy Haven. The friendly snowman outside the portal will give you the scoop!

As a reminder, if you have not switched out your old staves and wands in your collection (marked with an "X" at the end of the name), make sure you do that now! If they are left in your collections, they will no longer be accessible after the next update. To switch them to the new item, just take them out of collections and re-add them to their new collections slot.

With this update, we did quite a few quality of life additions as well as Frostfall. Mounts now level up and have their own stats along with a new dedicated key ("H" by default) to mount and dismount. No more saddle required! Character loadouts have been added to reduce the need to use your radial menu to switch between your melee weapons, tools, and ranged weapons. Customize three loadouts and easily switch between them with the "X" key. Whatever will you do with all of your pockets now? And to make everything easier, items that you can pick up in the world have a sparkly effect so they stand out more. The exception to this is books and notes currently, but this may be changed as well. There's a lot of fixes and tweaks in this update as well, so check out the patch notes for yourself:

New:
  • Items that can be picked up in the world have a sparkly effect on them to be easier to identify
  • Two new spells sold in the Sleepy Haven Magic Shop
  • Character loadouts - "X" to cycle loadouts
  • New Frostfall quest
  • No longer need saddles - Mounts have a dedicated “H” key to mount and dismount
  • Mounts now have levels - Gain XP as you ride and spend skill points at the stable
  • New items in the Frost Golem’s chest
  • Chaos spells now afflict the caster with a stacking curse instead of requiring magic
  • Corrupted Staff now regenerates health on hit instead of magic (other Chaos staves will soon follow)
Improved:
  • A Chef’s Cellar quest items can now only be picked up when on the quest
  • Various torches around Azura now using correct lighting
  • Changes to combat XP curve
  • Items that you can pick up (mushrooms, etc.) have a larger hitbox allowing you to pick them up easier
  • Character creation now randomizes a new style to start with
  • Area of Effect spells have had some mechanical improvements
  • Shield stats are now better balanced
  • Weight is now calculated differently and excludes small items like keys, seeds and quest items.
  • Targ will no longer chase you out of the arena
  • Added a lever to Targ’s door
  • Iron skin potion has a longer duration now
  • Quickness potion has a longer duration now
  • Mayor Bill’s mail is now more clear about the reward if the Hope Harbor plot has already been sold
  • Staves now have a faster attack speed, new animation and adjusted damage for balance
  • After hosting a server, you can now change your server password while in-game
Fixed:
  • Edgar’s Book now works as intended
  • Companion whistle given a cooldown so double triggering shouldn't happen
  • Astral Door now works as intended
  • The Eyre entrance gate will now allow you to leave when you approach from the inside
  • Removed food item from collections that should not have been there
  • Fixed an issue with haistyle choices during character creation
  • Fixed an issue with character clothing options during character creation
  • An issue with item weight not being calculated correctly when equipping/unequipping items
  • After defeating Targ, the health bar now goes away
  • Open fires to cook over now light you on fire again if you walk over them
  • Can now open both secret caves from the inside so you can get out
  • Hollyhock doesn’t take more than she needs now
  • Shop items permanently stating “Someone else is using this” have been fixed
  • Spamming enter when trying to join a password protected server no longer duplicates the menu
  • Graphics settings save between sessions now
  • Marigold's Cauldron inventory is no longer cleared if you leave the cemetery
  • Windless Woods tree stump puzzle now works as intended

Development Digest December 9th - 16th

Happy Friday, friends!

Frostfall is almost here! We wanted to get an updated patch out last week to fix some of the little bugs that have been causing lots of issues such as:
  • The Eyre gate not opening from the inside
  • Edgar's bookshelf not working
  • The moon switch at the Astronomer's camp not working
  • The Windless Woods tree stump puzzle not working


While the plan was in place, we ran into a serious hitch that caused a crash whenever trying to launch the game. Luckily, we found the issue (only took 3 days and 3 people) and it was an easy fix, but that put this patch way behind. So that means we started running into our Frostfall finalization time. To make our lives a little easier, we're going to add all those fixes to our Frostfall launch on the 22nd.

A few things to anticipate that are new for this year's Frostfall event:
  • New quests
  • Additional loot in the Frost Golem chest
  • New friends


If you've been following Kindred's stream, you would have seen a few things that are huge quality of life improvements that will be in this update. One being loadouts - allowing you to have up to 3 different sets of weapons/clothes/trinkets/backpacks/gliders/hats/masks to easily switch between for any occasion. I set mine to ranged, tools, and melee. Works great! Just use the default "X" key to cycle through them. No more pockets being used to swap between all these. Another thing that was worked on was mount leveling and a hotkey "H" specific to mounting. No more saddles needed! The more you ride, the more experience you get to be able to level up different aspects of your mount. Mounts will have a maximum level of 20 to reach.

The third thing that was being worked on and the only one that will not be in this update is Steam Achievements! We've got all the groundwork done, now just need to set up each achievement and test it. Unfortunately, to test this we have to turn on Steam Achievements so you all will see that the game has achievements when it really doesn't just yet. I'm excited to get these in though!
