Hold your Super noses: a smelly new update just arrived.

What’s that smell? That’s the smell of victory, Super Skunks.

Super Skunks join the fight this weekend and they’ve brought a new weapon with them. Super Skunk gas doesn’t just come from the edges of the map anymore, you can now deploy it strategically using Skunk Bombs. This third explosive weapon joins grenades and bananas in your utility slot, so choose wisely.

We’re also kicking off the weekend with another Squads weekend, so you can invite the rest of your best smelling friends to join in the fun! Squads weekend will take place until May 6th and then Duos mode will be back.

And you’ll want to make sure you visit the island on Saturday, May 4th! Today’s update isn’t the last thing we have up our sleeves for this weekend...but patience you must have, Super Animals.

A huge thanks to all of you for helping us reach our first 100k players!

We've just blown past a big milestone of 100k players, so we wanted to take a moment to reflect on how far we've come, and give you a sneak peak at some of the new things coming to the island in the months ahead. 100k is a whole lot of players for a small indie team like us, but this is still only the beginning. We can't wait to keep revealing the ways the world will expand so you can discover the full extent of this absurd story we've had so much fun writing.

We really can't stress enough how none of this would be possible without such a supportive community like you. We're constantly astonished by how many wonderful people have formed around this game, and how much each of you contributes to make this community so special. Thank you so much for joining us at the beginning of this journey, and we hope you're ready to welcome the next 100k Super Animals with open arms and show them what this community is all about!

  • Grenade damage through walls has been reduced.
  • "Rifle" renamed to "Automatic Rifle" for daily challenges.
  • Fix for Grenade explosion particles being affected by some death animations.
  • Fix for equipped weapons at the end of games not showing up in the menu.
  • Fix for a glitch in chat messages.

The Super Easter Bunny Has Arrived on Super Animal Island!


The Super Easter Bunny has arrived and hidden eggs all around Super Animal Island! If you've ever eaten a coconut, you'll be aware of its health benefits (+5 to be precise) and Super Eggs are no different! In addition to their healthy properties, eating Super Eggs will also earn you limited edition items, from now (April 19th) until next Friday (April 26th).

Here's what you can earn:
  • Yellow Bow (limited edition event item)

  • Super Bunny (earn with eggs or bunny DNA)

SQUADS MODE IS BACK FOR ANOTHER TEST WEEKEND

Grab your egg hunting friends, squads mode is back for another test weekend! You'll be able to play as a squad of 4 from April 19th to 22nd. When you egg hunt as a squad, every squad member's egg finds will contribute to the team!

THE NEW TRADE-UP SYSTEM HAS ARRIVED

If you've stacked up any duplicates or cosmetics items you don't care for, we have a brand new system for you to make use of them. In the Customize screen you'll now be able to trade in 5 items of the same rarity (or 3 legendary items) to get a new item of a higher rarity!

We got the most clip submissions we've gotten yet, and some of the best too, so it was especially hard to narrow it down this time. MORE IMPROVEMENTS IN V0.87.0:
  • Reduced game size by 200MB. Hallelujah to hard drives!
  • Added Larkson glasses to the regular item drops.
  • Weapon recoil while moving now applies on a per-weapon basis: smaller weapons such as pistols and SMG have less, and larger weapons like the AK, M16 and Sniper have more recoil while moving.
  • All special items (from events, milestones, etc) have a new orange tier of rarity and cannot be traded up.
  • Customize screen now shows what type of event, milestone or other category an item is from.
  • Coconuts can now be eaten while at full health. Because of this, daily challenges and milestones for coconuts have been adjusted.
  • Hiding the interface in-game will now also hide health bars, interaction text, and ammo/pickup text.
  • Added "OK TO ALL" button on the end game item rewards.
  • Customize icons decreased in size so 6 columns can be shown.
  • Corgi icons updated.
  • Bots now roll during regular movement.
  • Slightly lowered maximum pursuit distance for bots.


FIXES:
  • Fix for Super Robin art bug in-game.
  • When browsing cosmetics on Customize, your animal's animation no longer resets each time.
  • Fixed issue where furniture/crates under roofs would always block grenades.
  • Fix for using Super DNA Magnets on animals that are higher level than you, if you had their DNA.
  • Fix for bots switching weapons too fast.
  • Translation fixes.
  • If stuck with 'IN A MATCH' on the menu, pressing the READY button should reset out of that now.
  • Rare bug with being stuck in reviving should be fixed.
  • Fix for bots not being affected by bananas.
  • Expanded grenade explosion visual effect slightly.

Eggsactly the update you’ve been waiting for: Super Birds have hatched!



Birds of a feather can now kill together in the all new avian-themed Giant Eagle Landing zone. Join us in flocking to this new area, and make use of the overhauled progression system that includes new super challenges, DNA magnets, and a squads weekend to top it all off!!

SUPER FEATHERY ROYALE

The very first Super Birds are arriving on the island: 24 new feathery combatants bring the total Super Animal count up to 140! There are 4 new species (each with their own DNA), spread out through the Research Lab’s progression, and multiple breeds to create after you’ve earned each of them:

GIANT EAGLE LANDING

The Super Birds arrive alongside their very own avian-themed land, Giant Eagle Landing, with fine establishments like Beakeasy (a seedy nightclub), Eggsotic Cuisine, Flappy Jacks, and the Giant Eagle Rides attraction. It’s a wonderful time to visit Super Animal World’s island, especially since Spring has sprung and the new cherry blossom trees are in bloom!



SUPER DNA MAGNETS

The Giant Feathery Update also adds the “Super DNA Magnet” item to the game, which enables players to focus all of their DNA earning on a specific animal for the next 3 matches. Each game played has a random chance of dropping one, and daily challenges will award them too! As a special thank you for supporting us in Early Access and being an awesome community, we’ve given all of you 3 Super DNA Magnets to try out (which will give you 9 games total of focused DNA earning)!



DAILY SUPER CHALLENGES

And the new Super Challenges system, debuting today, provides a new way to earn items including the new Super DNA Magnets. Completing tasks such as getting kills with a magnum, chopping tall grass to find items, or eating coconuts will earn you bigger and bigger rewards as the difficulty of the challenge ramps up. You’ll unlock a new challenge every day, stacking up to a maximum of three, and we’re starting you all off with a full 3 challenges. In addition to earning Super DNA Magnets from challenges, you’ll also be able to earn Animal DNA and Super Serum, and if you get a challenge you don’t like, you’ll be able to re-roll once per day to replace it with a new challenge!

SQUADS WEEKEND

Last but not least, you can gather up your flocks because we’re hosting a Squads weekend from April 5th-8th! We’ll be disabling Duos in the meantime, but it’ll return on Tuesday. Thank you so much for all of your help spreading the word about the game and continuing to bring new Super Animals into the fold! We’re excited to be able to enable all 3 modes permanently in the near future, and we keep making progress towards that goal with your help.

And some final smaller changes…
  • The winner's health bar is now shown at the end of the game (so you have proof that you were this close to killing them).
  • Sniper move speed multiplier lowered from 95% from 90%
  • The third level marshmallow stick now has... 3 MALLOWS.
  • Translation fixes
  • Fix for some server crashes

Thanks to community feedback, all bullets have been upgraded to be bananas!



We know we told you that the next major update for SAR would be April 5th, but we’ve had a major breakthrough at Pixile and we couldn’t help but release it immediately. After months of extensive research and community outreach to determine the best step forward for the game, we think we’ve cracked and peeled it. In the end, we had to pass on thousands of other features in order to pursue this new direction, but we think it was worth it and will take the game to the next level.

The key insight we discovered (with your help) was that of all the items in the game, bananas were the most deadly -- far moreso than bullets -- and as such we’ve made the decision to upgrade every weapon in the game to fire bananas. Not only do bananas make better projectiles, they’re also 100% compostable so none of your missed shots will go to waste! And we didn’t stop there: not wanting to leave melee weapons behind, we’re also granting every player, who plays at least one game between April 1-5, a giant banana melee weapon. Now, not only can you slip other animals with bananas, you can also smack and shoot them with the potassium rich fruit for maximum damage.

We’ve also been informed by a certain community Discord server, organized by banana loving Super Animals, that we should utter the phrase “praise banan” at the end of this post to grace your banans with the best of luck. So praise banan, and may all your banans fly true in your quests to reach the top of the food chain!
