v1.9.4: By Popular Request Update

The Pixile team is still hard at work on the Super Animal World expansion, which we’re now aiming to release in winter (...or whenever it’s ready), but we have a big bundle of surprises to share with you today as thanks for your patience!

By popular request, today we’re dropping one more Animal Pass, inspired by community requests from over the years. The By Popular Request Pass is our way of saying thank you to all of you in our amazing community of more than twelve million players. And, because we’re now back to self-publishing and thus free to make dumb business decisions, we’re making it a proper thank you by making it completely FREE to claim until Super Animal World arrives.

We’ve also made a few quality of life improvements to the game, added new Super Animal breeds, and are kicking off an end of summer celebration in our first self-published patch since returning to full independence, so check out the video below or read on for all the details.

Highlights

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

 • The By Popular Request Pass is packed with cosmetics inspired by the community, and is FREE to claim throughout Season 11! Highlights of this pass include the Idol, Plague Doctor, and Trashcan Outfits, as well as the super-cute (and spiky) Mini Bearded Dragon pet and the Shy emote.
 • The new Super Animal World Supporter Pack DLC includes 3 unique Super Animal breeds, 12 cosmetics, and 750 tickets, and is available for those who want to support the expansion’s development and get a taste of Super Animal World themed items early.
 • Catch some final sun rays before fall during the Super End of Summer Royale event. It runs for three weeks and kicks off today with challenges, rewards, and fruity new Super Animal breeds each week!
 • Six additional new Super Animal breeds have been released from the Labs, with designs inspired or suggested by community members, just like the Animal Pass!
 • We’ve also made quality of life gameplay improvements and patched some bugs to improve player experience, including some significant changes to how the Zip-and-Go works.
 • Don’t miss the first sneak peek of Super Animal World gameplay in the video above too! We’re really proud of how fishing, bug catching and hamsterball racing are shaping up and we can’t wait to share more about the expansion in the coming months.
New FREE By Popular Request Pass

The SAR community is one of the most creative and passionate fanbases out there, so this season’s Animal Pass is a tribute to all the incredible designs and suggestions you’ve shared with us!

This Animal Pass is completely FREE to redeem until the Super Animal World expansion arrives (aka during Season 11), as a thank you for all of your support and patience during the Super Animal World expansion’s ongoing development. Next season, it’ll move into the Animal Pass Archive, but if you claim it anytime between now and then, you’ll be able to re-activate it from the Archive later like any other pass!

The pass includes some of our favorite cosmetic requests and ideas from you, as well as a few of our own to round out the pass (including a gravestone tribute to the retired Super Juicer blender). Some of the items were requested by many different players over the course of months and years, but others were directly inspired by art submitted in our Discord. A huge thanks to community members who provided beautiful reference designs for items and provided their permission to base our official items on them:
 • Idol Set - Sunnyaan
 • Wild West Set - KaDi
 • Teddy Bear Set - fizzy.1
 • Trashcan Set - Traffickoun
 • Plague Doctor Set - com50c
 • Night Vision Goggles - kyryashayatravka
 • Hotdog and Superite Ties - N3on Assassin
 • Cardboard Shotgun - Metawastaken
 • Superite Sniper - posvxxxxxx

If you’d like to suggest cosmetics for the game, join our Discord and drop your suggestions in the cosmetics channel, leave us game feedback in the feedback channel, or start a discussion here on Steam! We’re constantly inspired by your passion for the game and would love to hear what you want to see added next. :)

Super Animal World Supporter Pack DLC

The Super Animal World expansion is the most ambitious project we’ve attempted since we first set out to build Super Animal Royale itself in Early Access, and we only felt confident tackling it because of the love and support from all of you over the years.

The pack also comes with three Super Animal breeds gorgeously designed by Erika, and the adorable Mini Dragon pet, who should NOT be allowed near anything flammable.

Super (End of) Summer Royale 2024

The island’s season manipulation tech was a bit out-of-sync this year (we’ll get Thomas on that), but the wait is over: the Super (End of) Summer Royale event is here! We’ve got three weeks of fun in the sun planned, with new Super Animals, challenges, and rewards each week, so you’d better put on some sunscreen. And don’t forget your ears!

Fruit baskets have been scattered around the island, which you can pick up to progress some of your weekly event challenges and restore a small bit of HP. You’ll also gain fruit by completing matches of any game mode.

Check back on Tuesday, October 1st and Tuesday, October 8th for a new Super Animal breed and Summer Royale challenges, with new cosmetic rewards!

Here’s this week’s challenge list:
5 challenge rewards to earn
• Pineapple Glasses | Collect fruit (1000)
 • 1500 XP | Find and kick a beach ball in a match (5)
 • Watermelon Helmet | Deal damage with grenades and Lucky Cat Mines (250)
 • 750 Carl Coins | Throw Zip-And-Goes (5)
 • Seashell Necklace | Open clams (5)
New Super Animal breeds*
• Super Tomato Frog (unlocked at lvl. 30)
 • Super Dragonfruit Dragon (unlocked at lvl. 80)
*As a reminder, all event breeds are permanent additions to the Research Lab. Don’t burn yourself out trying to grind for them!

New Super Animal Breeds

The Lab Labs have been hard at work, too: six new Super Animal breeds can now be unlocked in the Research Lab, including two new Super Bunny breeds suggested by community members Fendesal and Unflappedflea!

New Super Bunny breeds (unlocked at lvl. 20)

New in the SAW Shop: The Fish Bundle!

Something’s fishy in the SAW Shop… and it’s not Ms. Macawsome’s tuna sandwich lunch this time.

The SAW Shop has new stock, including the Fish Bundle! It includes the following swimmingly swell swag:
 • Fish Beanie
 • Fish Costume

You can also pick up the following items, now in the rotation:

 • Coffee Cup

All of these items will be available for 48 hours in the SAW Shop starting tomorrow (September 25th) as Offers, with the exception of the Fish Bundle and Hot Coffee emote, which will be available all week as the Featured items!

They’ll be in the Shop’s rotation after that, so you’ll get additional chances to nab them later if you miss them this time.

New in Carl’s Cart

Carl’s got some new stock too, including 5 legacy items from past Summer Royale events. These items will rotate in on the days that new Summer Royale challenges unlock, so be sure to check the Cart when Weeks 2 and 3 of the event begin!

Here’s what’s new and rattling around in the Cart’s backseat:
 • Bubble Wand melee
 • Sunflower Bow
 • Red Panda Tie (also inspired by N3on Assassin)

The Bubble Wand melee, Sunflower Bow, and Red Panda Tie will be in the Cart tomorrow (September 25th), and will join the rest of the new additions in the rotation after their 48 hour run.

These legacy Summer Royale cosmetics have also been added to the Cart’s rotation (they’ll be guaranteed in the next few Cart inventory refreshes!):
 • Blue Striped Umbrella
 • Blue Beach Hat
 • Message in a Bottle melee
 • Beach Party Outfit
 • Vintage Floral Swimsuit
Pixile Plays

Join Catbaux, Kaity, Logan, and Michael for a special Pixile Plays tomorrow, Wednesday September 25th from 11am to 1pm PDT as they talk about the new update, Super Animal World, and answer your burning questions!

We typically stream every other week on Fridays at 11am PDT, so even if you can’t make it for this stream, you can follow the channel to get a notification when we go live in the future. With the By Popular Request Update out, we’re super excited to start sharing more about Super Animal World with everyone.

Quality of Life Changes & Bug Fixes
Zip-and-Go Revamp
• When deploying a zip-line, you’ll immediately begin riding it at maximum speed, opening up new ways to use it for mobility. Max speed is also a whole lot faster!
 • You’ll also get a speed boost each time you hop between zip-line segments in a chain of existing Zip-and-Go lines.
 • Each boost adds to your overall momentum and five chained rides on average-length lines will bring you to maximum speed.
 • The Ninja Booties powerup still provides a speed boost while riding a zip-line, but the maximum speed has the same cap.
 • Holding a Zip-and-Go now provides a zoom-out effect of 15% to help with placing them vertically (and spot incoming enemies).
 • New visuals and sound effects have also been added when chain riding between zip-lines!
Gameplay Changes
• The Super Juicer powerup has been removed (for now). Our philosophy for powerup design is for each powerup to have a clear niche that doesn’t overlap with others. It’s also important that powerups don’t have too many effects, and that those effects are reflected in their visual design. The Juicer just wasn’t carving out its own niche well enough, but you can still find a broken one in the Animal Pass as a gravestone! We’re planning to make further adjustments to the powerup system in the future too.
 • The Bandolier powerup now grants 10% faster reload speed in addition to its other effects. This includes the Hunting Rifle, which we feel should make for some exciting plays!
 • Lucky Cat Mines can no longer be set off by teammates (and they still do not damage teammates). This change should open up more strategic uses for mines, as well as just avoiding teammates mistakenly tripping them.
 • A new animation has been added for when Lucky Cat Mines are activated, making them more lively and visible before exploding, and fixing a visual issue when placed on conveyor belts.
 • SMOMA’s gallery has been updated with the pieces from the “Land, Sky, and Sea” Fanart Contest! You can view all of the amazing submissions on the fanart contest site: artcontest.animalroyale.com
 • Bots will de-prioritize targeting downed players, especially if other enemies are nearby to attack instead. This change only applies to human players though, so they’ll still thirst other bot teams. Those tryhards.
 • BCG egg projectiles are now affected by bullet speed modifiers (from private match commands or Mystery Mode).
 • Swapping your equipped weapon no longer cancels actions like healing, taping, reviving teammates, emoting, etc.
 • The snowy bridges in Thomas’ Tundra will now fade if a player is hiding behind them.
Other Changes
• Removed Modus splash logo. We’re fully indie and self-publishing again!
 • Implemented better highlighting on text-fields and improved controller navigation to enter and exit typing. We published this change on PC in v1.9.3 but the change is now also reflected in the console versions.
 • We’ve made some behind-the-scenes changes on the backend for how Animal Pass items are claimed to support larger inventories. You shouldn’t notice anything from the change, but let us know if you have any issues when redeeming your items!
 • The Flamberge melee weapon was made a bit thicker.
 • Added /ziplines command for private matches to block access to ziplines.
 • Sub-admins in private matches can now open the leaderboard and type after death, which also allows them to use the /score command for leaderboard printout.
 • Sub-admins can no longer kick each other from games.
 • When sub-admins kick players in private matches, the main admin will now also be notified.
Bug Fixes
• Fixed bots pathing through SAW Security HQ’s secret room walls.
 • Fixed hamster ball ping extrapolation not functioning. Other players were intended to be artificially extrapolated based on ping to counteract lag, which is now working.
 • Re-eating bananas with the Banana Forker is now allowed if there was a desync or error between the client and server. This prevents bananas from being stuck or blocked, and keeps delicious banana peels from going to waste.
 • Fixed ammo and other loot dropping far away when on Beaver Construction HQ bridges.
 • Fixed an issue which caused loot to spawn over walls when dropped (particularly in shipping containers).
 • Fixed a bug where the last zombie kill in the Bwoking Dead did not count towards XP gain.

Several character animation fixes:
 • Fixed Z-order glitch on Super Bat wings.
 • Reduced visual recoil while shooting the Superite Laser.
 • Improved torso/body textures turning with the Super Animal’s body.
 • Made a small update to VFX in the Hole in One emote.
 • Fixed Z-order of hands in the Banan Pew Pew emote.
 • Nudged hand position in aiming animations for Dogna’s Dart Gun, SMG, and Bow & Sparrow.
 • Fixed Z-order issue with hands in the juggling emote.
 • Matched the Blue Beanie’s position to match other colored beanies.
 • Improved arm bending in the SARturday Night Fever emote.
 • Added custom deformation to sleeves while parachuting to improve bending.

That’s all for the By Popular Request update! We hope you all have a ton of fun with the new content, and thank you so much again for all of your patience and support as the team works hard on the next big chapter of Super Animal Royale. We can’t wait to share more about the Super Animal World expansion with you as we continue development on it. See you on the island, Super Animals!

Incoming 1.9.4 Patch + Double XP Weekend

Our first self-published patch is almost here, so we’re throwing a Double XP party weekend to celebrate!

We know many Super Animals are eager for more content (and we’re just as excited to get it into your paws), so we wanted to begin by letting you know that our first self-published patch (v1.9.4) is right around the corner. We’re finalizing a few items with the console makers behind the scenes, but the release is very close!

To set expectations, this patch primarily focuses on quality-of-life improvements and the Super (End of) Summer Royale event, as well as a couple of fun surprises we haven’t shared yet. The team is also still hard at work on Super Animal World and we’ll have some additional updates to share on its progress when v1.9.4 arrives. It’s a huge project so it’s taking us longer to build out and polish up than planned, but it’s shaping up really nicely so we can’t wait to share more of what it’s looking like with you soon.

We’ve already shared a few things to look forward to in v1.9.4 on our socials, and we’ve gathered the key details below in case you missed any of them:
Double XP Weekend

From Friday, September 20th to Monday, September 23rd all XP from dailies, weeklies, and matches will be doubled! The Dragon’s Loot Pass will move into the Animal Pass Archive when v1.9.4 arrives, so if you have remaining tiers to earn or need a couple more levels, now’s a great chance.

Double XP also applies to account level and any pass from the Archive that you have activated on your second Animal Pass track. So even if you’ve already completed the Dragon’s Loot Animal Pass, you and your squadmates can make some gains on archived passes!

Shoulder Rider Pre-orders Close This Friday

Pre-orders for the Youtooz Mini Fox & Red Panda Shoulder Riders close this Friday, September 20th!

We also just announced last week that each one will come with their own respective in-game beanie, as seen in the image above, that’ll be sent out via e-mail when the plushies ship later this year.

In case you missed their initial announcement video, each Shoulder Rider plush has a magnet inside so you can stick them to their included fabric, magnetic disc (which you can slide under your shirt on your shoulder, hence the name) or magnet them directly to things like fridges, lamps, gaming PCs – you name it. Special thanks to Cheryl, Erika and our friends at Youtooz for designing and bringing these plushies to life.

That’s all for now, but we have so much more to share with you soon! Thank you for all the warm comments, support and your patience as we’ve made this big step to transition to self-publishing Super Animal Royale. This first patch took us longer than expected, but it’s a crucial milestone and lays the foundation for some really exciting updates to come that we’ll be able to publish ourselves! And the good news is, once we’ve gotten this first patch out the door, publishing future patches should be a whole lot smoother from here. A special thank you to Kaity, Clogg, and the incredible new teams handling porting, quality assurance, and release management for all the extra work they put into this patch’s release!

See you on the island, Super Animals.

Super Animal World | Reveal Teaser

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

We couldn’t be more excited to finally reveal what we’ve quietly been working so hard on behind the scenes! Super Animal World is a (mostly) relaxing free expansion for Super Animal Royale, coming later this summer (or to be honest, whenever it’s ready… it’s a big one). This is the huge new project we’ve been hinting at and planning for years and is the reason we’ve been taking a bit longer than usual with this latest development cycle, as we prototype and test all the new systems.

Since the beginning, we’ve noticed how much of what makes Super Animal Royale special happens between matches. The welcoming social atmosphere that is somehow conjured in the two minute windows between Giant Eagle departures has continually astounded us, and we’ve often wondered: what if we created more space for that? The Super Animal World expansion is all about providing new ways for players to connect, hang out, and relax together amid the ruins of our beloved abandoned safari park.

As you can probably tell from the teaser, the expansion will add fishing, bug catching, hamster ball races and more activities to enjoy with friends on the rare occasion you’re not trying to kill them. This is the largest project we’ve undertaken for Super Animal Royale since we first built the original game itself, as we alluded to last month when we announced our return to self-publishing. It’s a top to bottom rethink of the game’s menus, UI, mechanics, tutorials, and social elements, but we’ll have more details to share in the coming months as we get farther along in its development.

To make sure you don’t miss any of the new announcements about Super Animal World, be sure to join us in our Discord, subscribe on YouTube and follow us on your social media platform of choice:

On behalf of the entire Pixile team, thank you so much for all of your support in making it possible for us to keep building and expanding our dream game for so many years. We’re so proud of how far the game has come, and can’t wait to establish this brand new foundation for the game to build on with all of you for years to come.

We have more surprises planned between now and the arrival of the Super Animal World expansion, so stay tuned, and in the meantime we hope you’ll all join us in sending the first chapter of the game off in style. See you on the island, Super Animals!

Super Rhinos Charge into Battle!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

As you might have seen last week, we have a massive new project on the way for Super Animal Royale that we’ll be revealing soon, but we didn’t want to leave you all without some additional fun surprises in the meantime! If you haven’t already read it, you can check out that post below about our return to self-publishing, but without further ado, let's introduce the newest additions to the Research Lab.

The Super Rhino and its four additional breeds are available now in the Research Lab, unlocked at level 70:
 • Super Rhino
 • Super Blue Rhino
 • Super Dark Rhino
 • Super Fuchsia Rhino
 • Super Wooly Rhino

Big News for Super Animal Royale & Pixile

Hey Super Animals, we have some exciting news: we’ve made the decision to return to self-publishing Super Animal Royale on all platforms! Pixile began this journey fully independent when we released the game in Early Access on Steam in 2018, and we’ve now returned to full independence.

The team has grown and learned so much over the past six years, including adding multiple community members to the team to expand our capabilities in customer support, marketing, design, and development. So while we’re still a small indie studio of 16 people (6 of which are full-time), we’re confident that bringing everything back in-house is the best path forward for the game. And we couldn’t be more excited about the next big chapter we’re about to embark on with all of you! We’re also continuing to slowly expand the team, so if you or someone you know is super talented in the VFX department, be sure to direct them to our latest job posting right here (and keep an eye out for more job postings in the future).

If all goes according to plan, you shouldn’t notice much change aside from seeing Pixile’s name as Publisher in addition to Developer on store pages in the coming weeks, but if there’s any bumps in the road as we take on release management on all platforms for new updates, you can get support directly from us in SAR’s Discord server or by emailing us at [email protected].

Outside of managing the return to self-publishing behind the scenes, our team has also been heads-down, working on the next chapter of Super Animal Royale. We know many of you are super eager for news on what’s coming next (we hear you!). There would usually be a new season right around now, but we’ve been focused on something far bigger. In fact, it’s the biggest project we’ve taken on since building the first full version of the game in Early Access.

We’ve been hinting at this for quite a while now, including in the roadmaps we published in our Season 9 and Season 10 patch notes, and we’re still not quite ready to share the details yet (sorry!), but we promise you won’t have to wait too much longer for your first peek at it! It’s an all-hands-on-deck project for our small team, and we know it’ll be worth the wait. Rest assured that our regular update cycles, including new episodes of Super Animal Royale Tonight, will return better than ever when the next chapter of SAR launches.

Make sure you’re watching our socials (especially YouTube) for when our first big announcement trailer drops, and in the meantime we hope you’ll join us all on the island to enjoy the final months of the current game before it evolves! We have a few more final surprises up our sleeves before the big reveal too, so pay attention to all our social channels for those as well.

We also wanted to take a moment to express how proud we are of how far the game has come since it entered Early Access in December 2018. In six years, we’ve left Early Access, launched on all consoles with cross-play, reached over 11 million players, made two seasons of our web series Super Animal Royale Tonight, and packed the game with more content than we could have imagined when we began. But we’ve had an even bigger vision in the works for a long time, and we’re finally taking steps to make it a reality.

It’s hard to avoid sounding like a broken record with sentiments like this, but this game genuinely wouldn’t be possible without all of you playing it and pouring your endless passion and love into it. You’re what motivates us every day to keep expanding this crazy hamster ball, banan, and animal filled world that is so special to so many of us. So from the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much for supporting us in this journey, and we can’t wait to share what we’ve been working on next.

See you all on the island, Super Animals!
