Patch 1.3 - Public Beta Announcement

A public beta preview of Patch 1.3 for System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is now live on Steam! To participate, players will need to right-click the game in the Steam library and select Properties. In the Betas tab, choose "Beta" from the Dropdown list in the top left.

Features in the public beta preview of Patch 1.3 will include the following along with some additional items and fixes that will be outlined further once the patch is live on PC platforms: [/p][h3]

  • [p]Brazilian Portuguese localization has been added.[/p]
  • [p]Completely rewritten network driver. Disconnects should be much less frequent now. If you are still experiencing frequent disconnects, please reach out to us on our Discord channel and we’ll try to get back to you requesting additional info.[/p]
  • [p]Added feedback for some network errors when they occur, instead of simply returning to the main menu without context.[/p]
  • [p]Implemented support for toggled textures on level geometry, which allows for monitors and screens in the world to be destroyed, matching the original game.[/p]
  • [p]Support for gyroscope controls on Steam Deck, improved gyro support in general.[/p]
  • [p]Added an accessibility option to turn off screen flashes when taking damage or overloading psi, the setting is in the gameplay options menu.[/p]
  • [p]Added an option to disable the contextual help that appears when opening the inventory while using gamepad controls.[/p]
  • [p]Added prevention for quicksaving whilst the player is dead.[/p]
  • [p]Pressing escape will no longer hide the mouse cursor in menus.[/p]
  • [p](PC) Added support for ZIP files and loose folders for mods.[/p]
  • [p]Limited the max framerate to 500 fps, to prevent the game logic becoming unstable above this value.[/p]
  • [p]The Atari logo has been added to the beginning of the game.[/p]
  • [p]Improved the photosensitivity screen by combining it with the company logos. It now adapts to your chosen in-game language.[/p]
  • [p]Updated to the latest version of the Kex Engine.[/p]
  • [p]Updated to the latest versions of SDL, OpenAL and FMOD.[/p]
  • [p]Many other under-the-hood improvements to Dark Engine compatibility.[/p]

  • [p]Fixed surround sound not working properly when using the FMOD audio driver.[/p]

  • [p]Fixed several issues with dynamic lights on apparitions and explosions.[/p]
  • [p]Fixed crashes that could occur when closing the game while a video was playing.[/p]
  • [p]Fixed being unable to close the weapon settings MFD panel after selecting the modify or repair button on gamepad.[/p]
  • [p]Fixed a rare crash which could happen when opening the inventory.[/p]
  • [p]Fixed a crash when loading a save after disabling remastered content.[/p]
  • [p]Fixed radioactive rooms ceasing to function after loading a saved game in multiplayer.[/p]
  • [p]Fixed “Maintenance Robots” causing huge bandwidth spikes.[/p]
  • [p]Fixed several common instances of desync in multiplayer.[/p]

The classic 1999 version of System Shock 2 is set to be pulled from sale on Steam later this week. It'll still be kicking around, but as a freebie offered to owners of the game's 25th anniversary remaster, rather than something you can buy separately on Valve's store.

[p]System Shock 2 (1999) will be delisted from PC platforms on October 10, 2025.

Existing owners of System Shock 2 (1999) will still be able to re-download and play it from their library, but new users will no longer be able to purchase System Shock 2 (1999) as a standalone product.

At the time of delisting, System Shock 2 (1999) will be made available with the purchase of System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster. Both new and existing owners of System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster will be able to access System Shock 2 (1999) from their library at no additional cost. [p][/p][p]Patch 1.2 for System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is now available on PC platforms, including Steam, GOG, Epic Games, and Humble Bundle, along with Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch consoles.[/p][hr][/hr][h3]MULTIPLAYER[/h3]
  • [p]Select multiplayer enemies will no longer become invincible under specific conditions.[/p]
  • [p]Fixed missing or overlapped items in the player’s inventory upon loading a save.[/p]
  • [p]Adjusted multiplayer behavior so that if a player disconnects from the game, everyone will return to the main menu. This is to prevent saving when players have left the session, altering the amount of players saved in that session.[/p]
  • [p]Fixed cases of player script data disappearing when returning to a previous level after loading a save, causing O/S Upgrades to be locked incorrectly, among other issues.[/p]
  • [p]Fixed a crash on the Recreation Deck caused by the spiders in the ceiling.[/p]
  • [p]Fixed cases of script data piling up causing “infinite” load screens. Depending on the specific circumstance, a new session may be required.[/p]
