Dead Space's return could be a remake and not a new game

A Dead Space return has long been rumoured, with everything from a remaster of the first game to a new game being hinted at. It looks like it’ll be somewhere in between, with reports suggesting that EA Motive are working on a remake of the original game, and an expected reveal at July 22’s EA Play Live.

Resident Evil's Nemesis is coming to Dead By Daylight

Like a giant Katamari made of scabs and jump scares, Dead By Daylight has collected another classic horror fiend to stalk its servers. The upcoming Resident Evil chapter will, unsurprisingly, bring the Umbrella Corp's Nemesis to the multiplayer horror game. The new beast won’t be turning up on his own, though. Leon S. Kennedy and Jill Valentine will be added as survivors for the meat-weapon-gone-rogue to chase.

The ghastly collab was announced to celebrate Dead by Daylight’s fifth anniversary. The asymmetric multiplayer game, where teams of survivors try and outlast a singular enemy during a round, is packed with classic horror icons, and the Nemesis fits right in alongside Leatherface and Pyramid Head.

A new stalking ground, based on the Raccoon City Police Department from the recent Resident 2 remake, rounds off the new add-on. You can see that below if you skip to "50:49 Resident Evil Chapter Reveal".

Resident Evil 2 has sold more Steam copies than Resident Evil 7

By all accounts, this year's remake of Resident Evil 2 from Capcom has been enormously successful, and is one of the best games of the year so far. According to the publisher, it shipped over three million copies on all platforms in its first week alone, but we're more interested in how Resident Evil 2 has sold on PC - especially how it compares, sales-wise, to the other Resident Evil games.

Fortunately, it seems that Resident Evil 2 is performing really well on PC, as the game has now sold over a million copies on Steam - or more specifically, has over a million owners on Steam, so this includes anyone who bought a Steam key from other sellers.

By comparison, the previous game in the series, the slightly-divisive first-person Resident Evil 7, has not yet broken a million owners on Steam in its lifetime - so the remake of Resident Evil 2 has completely outperformed it. That's despite the remake only being out for two months, and Resident Evil 7 being available for over two years.

Resident Evil 2's remake is happening and it's coming to PC

Resident Evil 2 is getting an HD remake, and it's coming out on January 25, 2019. Publisher Capcom confirms in a press release that it will be coming to PC. The news was announced at Sony's E3 2018 conference with two grisly new trailers, both of which you can watch for yourself below.

A Resident Evil 2 HD remaster and/or remake has been in the works off-and-on for a while now, having first been announced in August 2015 before going dark for a couple of years. But clearly Capcom has not been idle during all that time, having rebuilt the original game from scratch in the modern RE Engine. The famous over-the-shoulder camera perspective is confirmed to return.

The original Resident Evil 2 released in 1998 for the first PlayStation, and introduced such series favourites as rookie cop Leon S. Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield. The setting is Raccoon City, whose citizens have, as you could probably guess, been turned into ravenous zombies by a disastrous plague. Leon and Claire must work together to survive and uncover the cause of the outbreak.

Resident Evil 2 PC release time - here's when the remake unlocks on Steam

Resident Evil 2 finally launches in all its gory, remade glory on January 24 - but with today's digital distribution, it's not so much the date that matters but the time. Luckily, Steam has at last effectively given us those release times with a countdown to launch, so we can properly count down the hours until launch. Just expect to look jealously across the ocean depending on what region you're in.

For folks in the UK, RE2 will be available at midnight GMT. If you're in the US, expect a launch at midnight EST / 21:00 PST - yes, looks like the west coast won't have to stay up quite so late to enjoy the spooks. Either way, there are less than 12 hours to go.

Those last few hours will be well worth the wait, as our Resident Evil 2 PC review will attest. Chris says "This remake is a bloodbath for longtime fans to relish, but one that stands tall among the survival horror greats of today. It would do so even without the legacy behind it."
